Could be because MANY South Vietnamese (Hmong, Anam, Cochin, etc) were forced to leave in an event known as the Boat People. We call it ethnic cleansing...the North called it victory.

If some foreigner bombed your country and caused mayhem like that, would you be forgivin' and forgettin' in a hurry? The historical record says no, generally. BTW we've had boat people in our history and tribes who didn't survive at all.

What ARE you talking about? The Boat People were South Vietnamese who were ethnically cleansed by the North AFTER victory.

The problem with Viet-Nam was that the American left thought the NVA/VC were the "good guys".

Were there any really good guys? Maybe some of the smaller tribes caught in the crossfire.

I know one of those guys.

Expelling populations isn't something new e.g. our own Acadians.

You're free to support the North's genocide against the residents of the South that were of the WRONG tribe.

At least a 1/4 million died as shark bait.

This is  why i can't see you as the forgiving type. If you'd been in the VietCong you'd still be steaming about those Yankees.

You're free to justify North Viet-Nam's post war genocide against the South however you wish.

I don't do that. I haven't done that.

The Viet-Cong were wiped-out in 1967-68 during Tet forcing NVA cadres to take-up the fight that much more.

If you were on the North Vietnamese side in any capacity, you'd still be going on about the US imperialists and forgetting your own country's wrongs. There's a symmetry to tribalism.

Sure you did: two wrongs to make YOU right.

There are people in every country just like you, convinced that all their nation's enemies are uniquely evil.

I know the history, you mean, while you do not.

Nam-Viet...Viet-Anam...Viet-Nam...it's in the name.

I don't think one has to hyphenate the name. Kinda beside the point.

Ohhhhh...so the whole Boat People thing wasn't an intentional act by the North but rather a voluntary evacuation?

You dig well.

Oh, dear - imagining things now.

Traditionally hyphenated despite Americanization. Nam-Viet was the first use representing the Chinese Nanyue Empire...which covered the region around 200 BC. Nam represented Annam while Viet were...the Viet. Different tribes/collections of tribes.

Every account of a war is biased but always interesting. Here is one from a former member of the Viet Cong who did survive:

Doesn't have to be universal....what do you thing "collective security" has meant all these years, especially for Canada ?

Same as it means to a heron.  Pay attention dude.

Is there a counter alliance for NATO and NORAD ?

Who needs one of those when we have...like I said...go read about the herons and the eagles.

Besides which the only realistic direction any invasion would or could ever come from is south of our border.  Am I supposed to believe NATO or some counter alliance is going to come to my rescue?

No....it is a waste of time in the real world...the one that we actually live in.   Nature is actually far more ruthless.

Well to be sure now being ruthlessness is actually more an act of conscious will as opposed to some instinct or physical force of nature that overwhelms conscious thought and collective attempt to live and behave differently, such as civilly and according to principled morals and ethics.

As for nature having a will...since when did you exit the real world and start subscribing to Gaia?

I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

The problem with Vietnam is that the American Right didn't round up the American Left.  Never mind what were they thinking then, how much longer is this going to be allowed to stand?

Now that I'm subscribed to it I've been watching Fox News a bit, and if what they're reporting about the threat from the left is anything to gauge by, it might not be long.

I wonder if they'll make me quote Ayn Rand, Rush Limbaugh or the bible when they come kick my door in?
