msj Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 Here's the link for Butts and Telford: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/butts-telford-moving-expenses-1.3774979 I disagree with the "personalized cash" payouts unless there is further detail that could justify them. I also would like an explanation for the temporary rental lodging as that seems excessive. The rest, however, appears reasonable, imo and I disagree with Butts paying back the land transfer tax. Quote If a believer demands that I, as a non-believer, observe his taboos in the public domain, he is not asking for my respect but for my submission. And that is incompatible with a secular democracy. ?Impact Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 I also would like an explanation for the temporary rental lodging as that seems excessive. Yes, it does seem excessive. My guess is a 1 year lease was signed for about $1500/month which would not be unreasonable rent for a downtown Ottawa apartment, and getting short term rentals is never easy. The election was in October, Also perhaps they didn't want to yank the kids out of the middle of the school year which can be a major issue depending on what grade they are in. This is always a problem with relocating a family, everyone has other commitments and coordinating them is problematic. Selling a million dollar home as well takes time, between listing it, selling, and waiting for an agreed closing date, it is not surprising a few months would pass. Quote

cybercoma Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 That was for 5 people - most of which went to two people. I don't like it, and if this was within the rules the rules need to be changed. So it was $200k to move five people? That sounds fairly reasonable actually. Quote
Smallc Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 So it was $200k to move five people? That sounds fairly reasonable actually. It would be, except for the fact that $200 K of it was for two of those people - $120 for one to move from Toronto to Ottawa (Gerald Butts). Quote

SpankyMcFarland Posted September 26, 2016 Report Posted September 26, 2016 It's a small story, bad optics but the previous govt did it as well. Quote
