And what is the unintended purpose? Has this granting of citizenship been used for unintended purpose?

Obviously.

These chinese people have put millions and millions of dollars into Canada in real estate investments.Making a whole lot of money for government in form of property taxes and other levies.

No, in fact, they cheat at everything they do here and rarely pay taxes. I posted a cite to that affect a little ways back. Go read it.

Why must you make this about race? Oh, I know, it's easier than justifying a policy that gives citizenship to the children of tourists.

SJWs always make EVERYTHING about race. They see it as their duty as noble warriors of the far left, to protect those poor, oppressed, non-white people, who, being non-White, are too ignorant and stupid and lowly to protect or speak for themselves. They need noble white SJWs to "protect them" from the depredations of the horrible Right. And it never occurs to them how racist and paternalistic their own attitudes are towards the people they 'protect'.

The only reason anyone is defending this stupid policy is because these SJWs see themselves as the great defenders of the poor, oppressed Asian people.

Oh look. Argus has finally bought into the SJW strawman. I mean, it's an easy substitution since he's being using "the left" and "liberal" as a strawman for arguments that no one has ever made.

Listening to the SJW cards being played here is like listening to Trump wax ineloquently about billionaires and a hollowed out economy. I don't think the people buying property in Vancouver are very poor and oppressed at all. If anything I'm betting a good number of them probably made their fortunes by oppressing workers and exploiting lax environmental standards back home and now they want a piece of Elysium while the getting's good.

This is blow-back, an unintended consequence of the race to the bottom. I don't know if its ironic, odd or something else that all the angst isn't tempered by the realization that at least some of the wealth the race to the bottom created elsewhere is trickling our way. But I don't recall the anti-SJW crowd usually worrying themselves too much over this race - if anything they're usually cheering it on.

I take offence to this bullshit that I, as a SJW, confine my outrage to the oppression of Asians.

Oh that's funny. So China likely doesn't allow us to get our children citizenship if we give birth while on Holiday in China, yet we are supposed to allow the Chinese to get citizenship if they are on holiday here?

That's a pretty foul uneven and unfair deal don't you think?

What deal? Did anyone make a deal with the government of china about reciprocal citizenship-granting mechanisms? Has anyone proposed such? Do you suppose that Canada has and does grant citizenship to all the babies in the hopes of other nations reciprocating?

Don't be silly. All it requires is a bribe. China is a thoroughly corrupt country. Those with money obey no laws.

Excellent. Then when that third-child absconds from China with all the money mom and dad squirrelled away, they will not be a drain on your precious tax dollars. The perfect citizen don't you think?

Thanks for that link WCRunner. I found it interesting that the apparent goal of denying citizenship at birth is to keep up the 'value' of citizenship.

(see near bottom of linked article: Recommendation "...Thereby preserving the value of citizenship.")

Apparently That is the sole aim of not granting citizenship at birth! I am still unable to see how the supposed value of my citizenship changes if others share that citizenship. There is no way of measuring such value. Any value rests entirely within the mind of the citizenship holder and varies from individual to individual.

Get the hell out of here with your figures and research! This thread is about OPINIONS! Particularly opinions about how awful Chinese people are.

Bull! Government policies are changed all the time and for the most part were not even informed. They can make a policy to bring in refugees in about a week. It takes one person with a pen and ability to change a birth certificate form.

Why do 85% of the worlds countries including all of Europe, India, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand all require at least one parent to be a permanent resident? It must be because they are all RAAACIISST.

So are you criticizing the government of China for not allowing our children to be given citizenship if born there?

A great report on Citizenship Reform Proosal.

It outlines associated costs and various proposals as well as the pros and cons for each proposal.

Always boiling things down to alleged monetary gain. Is that what our society is based on? Well then we might as well just rape the rest of the earth's environment if that is the case. Full steam ahead! like in China.

Permanent resident doesn't even mean citizen.

Permanent resident doesn't even mean citizen.

It doesn't mean tourist either.

Nope. China grants citizenship to whoever they want whenever it pleases them to do so.

Permanent resident doesn't even mean citizen.

But it does mean someone who makes their life here and is contributing to society here.

Aside: If people insist on handing passports to who ever wants one we should put a much larger price on them. Perhaps a auction where the passport is granted to the highest bidders. Why give away something for free when people are clearly willing to pay for it?

It also makes clear that they really don't have any idea how often this happens. They cite Stats Canada saying only 500 times a year, but we know that's wildly off. It admits hospitals and provinces aren't tracking it. A Richmond Hill hospital that actually tracked it found 295 (15% of births) in one year all by itself. If there's that many in one hospital then we'e probably dealing with thousands across the province, and possibly tens of thousands across the country. And as the report pointed out, all our allies except the U.S. already do this, so it's not like it's some kind of toweringly difficult policy to implement.

And even the US makes anyone who accepts its citizenship taxpayers for life. We give it away for nothing.

But I do not care what citizenship requirements of China are. Is there some secret reason that cannot be uttered that makes China's rules of importance to Canada?
