Why does you being retired on a government pension make you an abuser of Canada or my generosity?

So give Canadian citizenship to anyone who asks for it. Why make them go to the inconvenience of coming to Canada just long enough to have a child?

Being retired on a govt pension doesn't in itself make me a user and abuser of your generosity any more than being an immigrant does.

We do already give citizenship to any who ask for it - eventually anyways. Them having a canadian child does not grant the parents citizenship.

We do not, immigrants have to be accepted as immigrants, meet residency requirements and pass a citizenship test. Tourist's children do none of that.

This is not a new issue.

If people are worried about anchor babies leading to them and their families draining Canadan tax payer of funds must say two things.

...

2. These chinese people have put millions and millions of dollars into Canada in real estate investments.Making a whole lot of money for government in form of property taxes and other levies.

This isn't really much a pro argument. What you mean to say here is that they've poured tens of billions of dollars into Canadian (Vancouver) real estate, causing skyrocketing prices that have made it impossible for Canadians that actually live in Vancouver to afford to own a home in the area.

Ok. So it isn't the parents that worry you, it is the children born here who are carried off to some other land and then return many years later and need not undergo the immigration process. This is nothing new. It has been happening forever where parents move their canadian citizen children to other lands and one day those children return.

They aren't immigrants, they are tourists. I have no issue with immigrants or refugees.

If they are tourists then they tour and leave for home. Just like these tourists who gave birth to children in Canada. Tourists also get to use and abuse our generosity by paying for all healthcare and all other payable services. Just like every other non-birthing tourist or birthing tourist.

So I'm not sure what you are talking about anymore when referring to how some folks use and abuse our generosity.

The tourists use and abuse it? or the children born at these so-called birthing centres use and abuse it?

That's another non-answer. Why was the law changed so that people who wanted Canadian passports no longer had to state they intended to live in Canada?

What was the inspiration for this change? Why did you think it was so important to do given such a change is clearly not in Canada's interests?

Because as a Canadian citizen you and everyone else has a right to live and work abroad without losing your citizenship. Oh but this isn't about you. You should be allowed to do that just fine. And it's probably not about Brits or Americans who get Canadian citizenship either is it? It's just for the people you and your ilk consider "mongrels."

This is the funniest part. I'm pretty sure most of the people complaining about immigrants have never even read the immigration laws and know nothing about the classes and what's required to get citizenship.

Why must you make this about race? Oh, I know, it's easier than justifying a policy that gives citizenship to the children of tourists.

You want to base Canadian legislation on Communist China now?

Only 30 out of the world's 194 countries have unrestricted citizenship by birth. Even though they have unrestricted movement between member countries, no EU countries have unrestricted citizenship by birth.

I have no idea. Nor do I care. China makes its own rules and Canada is not required to dance to whatever laws other countries may or may not implement.

Oh that's funny. So China likely doesn't allow us to get our children citizenship if we give birth while on Holiday in China, yet we are supposed to allow the Chinese to get citizenship if they are on holiday here?

That's a pretty foul uneven and unfair deal don't you think?

No, but I think they should at the very least reciprocate if we are giving them this amazing deal which we shouldn't be giving them.

If they aren't willing to reciprocate then we sure as hell shouldn't give them this opportunity which we shouldn't be giving them anyway. Even their government has enough sense to try to limit their population of 1.35 billion people!!!

To put that into perspective the population of Canada (which already includes numerous Chinese) would fit into the population of China 38 times!!!!

But there aren't enough Chinese in the world according to some that we need to house even more here.

Canadians can't get it in Britain. They can in the US but only if they want to file US tax returns for the rest of their lives regardless of where they live.

Our government sets standards for Canada - you set standards for yourself. Speak for yourself and your standards - especially when you choose to hide who you are. Lots of far right wing "heritage" organizations who agree with you - they are considered racist.

I don't think I've ever suggested I speak for anyone but myself, though of course, most intelligent people agree with my positions on most things. Ignorant anti-Semitic far left socialist types disagree, but then, who cares what they think.

Conservatives don't like studying things because knowledge is the death of their dogmas. Conservatives don't study things because they're perfectly content with making up fantasies for answers instead of actually knowing anything about what they're talking about.

How far can we devolve this conversation into conservatives this and liberals that without any real substance? What a joke.

That would require them to hide the child away while in China. Difficult to do if flying in to Hong Kong and going through customs with a new born in tow.

Don't be silly. All it requires is a bribe. China is a thoroughly corrupt country. Those with money obey no laws.

Its not a loophole. It is what the system allows. Anyone born here gets Canadian citizenship. There is no loophole.

A loophole is making use of a law for purposes other than its intended use, taking advantage of it by using it for something it wasn't meant for. Flying to Canada to give birth to get citizenship, and then flying home is clearly not something this law is intended for.
