Hal 9000
If one is born in Canada, say to third generation born in Canada "yellow people," is this person a Canadian or a Chinese? In your opinion, of course. Good question. Now this is where we have to look at cultures. While we in the west are not concerned with a preservation of culture, the Chinese certainly are. We care nothing about the future beyond our own retirement - We don't really care about our past and history, in fact too many people are ashamed of any small culture we do have - maybe we care about our kids and also use cliches like "what will we leave for our grandchildren", but lets face it - we don't care how Canada will look after we're gone. We don't care if our kids or grandkids are asian, we don't care if they're black or muslim or atheists - we just don't care. Should we care? maybe, maybe not...and it doesn't really matter. The problem is; we also think all countries or cultures feel this way - well, they don't. The Chinese do care about their culture and the future of the Chinese people, not just for the next one or two generations, but for the long haul. They put Chinese first, they buy Chinese, sell to Chinese and support Chinese. They have obvious goals - goals that some of them know are generations away and Vancouver is a part of that bigger picture. Vancouver is their gateway to North America. Toronto is the financial nerve centre. You'd have to foolish to deny a long term goal for Vancouver. You see, we're hung up the wrong questions; Chinese nationals or Chinese Canadians doesn't matter, what matters is; who's paying the bills on these houses and properties? And, what is the long term plan? As an aside, I'll resent any indication that I hate or fear the Chinese - frankly, it's what I admire about them. If we had an ounce of their character, we'd be a better society. Quote The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so. - Ronald Reagan I have said that the Western world is just as violent as the Islamic world - Dialamah Europe seems to excel at fooling people to immigrate there from the ME only to chew them up and spit them back. - Eyeball Unfortunately our policies have contributed to retarding and limiting their (Muslim's) society's natural progression towards the same enlightened state we take for granted. - Eyeball
waldo
Agreed....demanding cites is usually a tactic having nothing to do with an exercise in fact finding. "Cites" often prove nothing except search engine prowess. nonsense! Unsubstantiated opinion is quite easily flushed out by requesting a citation... equally, it also flushes out those who can't articulate a thought of their own, particularly those who simply rely upon cut&paste theatrics! It also is a handy foil for highlighting the antics of trolls. now, if a cited reference provided is simply a biased opinion piece of its own... at least the person citing it has provided a basis for parroting! . Michael Hardner
So! I can opine whatever I want. Yes, this is true. But if you don't back up specific facts that you are claiming, you're not giving the thread fuel to move forward. If nobody cares about your opinion, they may ignore it and move on. The majority of "cites" that people post on these forums are links to some biased opinion article. Majority ? Perhaps, but if you use a source that is generally accepted there is less of a chance of the discussion dying. at least the person citing it has provided a basis for parroting! . ...or something. Since this is a discussion board and not a radio station, we need a basis for a discussion. You may indeed post an opinion but people may not care what you think, especially if your opinions are not based on facts. Ok - enough with the discussion about the discussion. Any more questions on that can go to the Support & Questions forum. Let's get back to the topic of the thread now.
