Perhaps because she showed up on "Different Strokes" which is a show I vaguely remember from my childhood. I thought her "Just say no" campaign was lame then and still think it's lame now. I disagree with most of her politics. She liked to consult astrologists which is weird but then lots of people claim to believe in a virgin birth for their saviour so who am I to call this crazy? She was terrible when it came to AIDS. As Christopher Hitchens said of Jerry Falwell: if you gave him an enema you could bury him in a matchbox. This applies to all high mucky mucks and politicians and their relatives, I'm sure. I prefer "the good die young." 94 is a ripe old age for a woman born in 1921. But enough of my horrible mean things to say: what are your memories? And should we only say nice things about the dead even though we don't mean them? kimmy Posted March 7, 2016 Report Share Posted March 7, 2016 One important distinction that I think people lost sight of in the last thread is that attacking someone's policies or beliefs is not the same as attacking the person. It is possible to feel sad that an iconic figure has died while at the same time still feeling that their views were wrong. But I'm willing to be the douchebag on this issue ( and I assume I can call myself a douchebag without getting banned) because I don't think NR was a very nice lady. This goes beyond have a difference of opinion with her beliefs or ideas: the good truly do die young in this case..... I have better memories of Brian Mulroney winning the Progressive Conservative leadership a couple of years later: the start of my interest in politics was watching that leadership contest.
