There is no need to apologize for the Harper years; he will soon look good compared to the power at all costs driven LPC, who exist to further those with whom they're politically connected.

Trudeau will have to go some to hit the record of uping the national debt that Harper achieved.

If the Mulroney "Montreal Mafia" gain standing in the post-Harper Conservative party my money wil be on Charest. The Frech-Canadian crew has always been tight and Charest was promised the leadership when he agreed to step down to save Quebec from the Bloc.

I'm not, but I'm also a realist........a Harper 2.0 in 2019 will have the same success as the original this year.

In the Conservative party today, are there more former Alliance members or former PC members and what about the PC members in the country that want the PCP back? I think there's a very good chance of that happening, it just depends who is running for the leadership.

Interesting!

If the Tories choose a leader who falls into the same-old middle-aged-white-guy model, theyll languish in the political wilderness for a decade. Trudeau represents a generation shift in federal politics. The Tories must make their own changes to adjust.

...

It wasnt so much the substance of Conservative policies that sank them in the Oct. 19 election it was their style. Harper was an able leader who competently steered the country through tough economic times. It was his scorched earth tone, a certain meanness, that turned voters off.

The party has to find a leader who can unite the different factions from the old-style Reformers to those who see the way forward as a kinder, gentler conservatism.

So Conservatives are going to stop being mean and divisive, and go back to being progressive.

Maybe the 1980's are finally over!!

It does not matter what they are, people will be voting conservative in the next election, if you like it or not. Mr Sunny ways has already embarrassed the country. People here say we lost our rep in the world, we had a great rep till now. We could always be counted on now we run. And I will bet no leader will be phoning trudeau for advice, like leaders did with harper. Our delegation at these past meetings were pretty well ignored , except for selfies.

Except the vast majority of Canadians don't know or care that world leaders called Harper. I also doubt many realize hat Trudeau embarrassed us, like you say he did.

Canadian do care. And people know what is going on. People miss harper already.

Trudeau has yet to be the disaster that you hope him to be.

I keep hearing that the reason that the previous Harper Conservatives lost was becasue of style and tone.

If that is the case, why is his legislation being overturned, one by one, with lots yet to come?

Really small c. He has been a disaster, with his I am a celebrity and should be treated as one attitude. Canadians will tire quickly of that sort of shit.

I think that's more an issue of perception that you and other Conservative supporters to be dealing with. You can't fathom how the rest of us could ever support someone who disagrees with you so completely, much less a Trudeau.

The Conservatives will have to drop the Reform rhetoric if they want to be electable again. They were at odds with Canadian values, so even conservatives walked away, and they made people on the other side of the aisle very angry.

They only won elections because people were complacent and didn't vote. But October 19 that changed.

Canadians though Reform were fringe back in the day, and even CSIS infiltrated them at one point for the cozying up to neo-Nazis. What makes you think them taking over our real conservative party and stealing everything about then (the colour blue, the nickname "Tory", etc) would make them different?

Unfortunately, Canadians learned that the hard way. Harper was a disaster for Canada and the damage is beyond repair.

Trudeau's nice hair is either gonna turn grey or fall out.

Probably why he's so adamant on legalizing pot. He needs it to deal with the stress LOL.

The liberals do not give a shit about us or the country ,it is all about power, that is why they went with trudeau. We can win with trudeau,no matter how much of a fool he makes out of himself. Says allot of the people that voted for him.. The Baltics is not a thing.

I would agree he wasn't all that scary or conservative. I'd disagree that you could easily go further.

My taxes are staying exactly the same (I actually will see a small decrease at the top end, maybe). If you have proof to the contrary....

It's clear from the newest financial numbers that no one's platform was properly costed.

So even with the certain coming of a federal carbon tax of some kind,do you really think your taxes won't go up?

Taxes will be going up. Though there is a net decrease in taxes with the middle class tax cut and the upper class tax increase ($-1.2B), the roll back of the TFSA ($200M) and the ending of income splitting (~$2.6B) will mean that taxes do go up. I think that taxes will need to go up by about $10B a year.

Small,,, What is your favourite Baltic nation?

Trudeau- That is not a thing. A good article in Macleans about it and how the Baltics reacted and they are not amused. But hey this is only the start.
