Ash74 Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/justin-trudeau-should-fix-24-sussex-right-away Ok I admit I am a right wing, small government, union hating, gun toting,Liberal hating ,low tax kinda guy. But can anybody seriously think repairing the Prime Minister's residence a bad idea? I do not care which party is in power. I feel this is money well spent and long overdue. Does anybody disagree? BC_chick Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 I'm a left-wing, big-government, union supporter who hates guns and conservatives and I love paying taxes. I also support this move no matter who lives there. Quote It's kind of the worst thing that any humans could be doing at this time in human history. Other than that, it's fine." Big Guy Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 This belongs to the Canadian taxpayer. This is the place where our elected leader entertains people from around the world. This is not the place to cheap out. It will take years for this place to be renovated to modern specs - it may take $10 million it may take $20 million. It probably will not be ready before the next federal election. Fix it, fix it well, fix it and make it representative of the leader of our country - no matter what the cost. On Guard for Thee Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 At the time the report came out on what needed to be repaired on the house, Harper was clinging to a slim minority, and didn't want to move while those repairs were done because he reckoned the trappings of 24 Sussex would in some way substantiate his position. How tacky was that! Quote

How tacky was that! The place has needed repairs since forever. Chretien also avoided them, as did Martin, as did freaking Mulroney. I live in Ottawa. I've seen lots of these reports over the years. bush_cheney2004 Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Good enough for Harper, not good enough for Justin. Sure seems that way....but we have to remember that Justin Trudeau is use to silver spoons. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Smallc Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Good enough for Harper, not good enough for Justin. Not good enough for anyone, according to the reports. Quote
dialamah Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Good enough for Harper, not good enough for Justin. True, asbestos and fire hazards were good enough for Harper's kids, but Trudeau apparently feels more concern for his kids, being as how he's continuing a dynasty and all. I'm sure one of those boys will make a good PM in 35 years time. There'll be a bunch of really-old-farts proclaim gloom and doom, and how Trudeau #3 is going to lead us all down the same feckless path, just like his pappy did and his pappy before him. It'll be fun. Quote
poochy Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 It should have been fixed long ago, it's ridiculous, and maybe a bit frightening, that Canadians are, or our leaders believe we are so small that we can't understand why the residence of our PM should be kept up. It should be to an extent, a reflection of the greatness of the country, what it would cost to properly maintain is a pittance. For whatever reason Trudeau has decided not to move in, it is in the end, the right choice. Quote
waldo Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Sure seems that way....but we have to remember that Justin Trudeau is use to silver spoons. I understand the U.S. President's digs have undergone several major reconstructions and renos... that Camelot First Lady was sure a big spender... why... golden... ya, golden spoons! . Quote
Topaz Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Please quit the negative on repairs, its needed to be done and ANY PM that lived in the place would say it needed and the wiring especially needs attention, along with the heating so if u are going to attack the Trudeaus do it for a good reason not because he's Justin Trudeau that won the PMO and u lost. BubberMiley Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Good enough for Harper, not good enough for Justin. I think that phrase will sum up the two PMs' approaches to running the country, be it missing and murdered Aboriginal women, dealing with climate change, economic prosperity... Argus Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Good for you. How 'bout we just fix the building and move on? I said as much. You seem less interested in fixing the building then blaming Harper for it. On Guard for Thee Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 I said as much. You seem less interested in fixing the building then blaming Harper for it. Nope. I seem more interested in fixing the building regardless of who lives there. Harper just happened to be the guy who refused to get the work done while he was living there. Quote
Big Guy Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 I am a taxpayer so I own this house. If I had an investment and saw it depreciate and fall apart I would either tear it down and re-build or renovate. There is no other choice. On Guard for Thee Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 And Chretien and Martin and Mulroney. As has already been pointed out, the report claiming the house needed major repairs came out in 2008. Now, do you recall who was PM then or not? Quote

Do you feel physical pain if someone blames a problem on both Liberals and Conservatives? I feel no pain at all, however your needless follow up paragraph above seems to indicate you must. Don't worry though, our PM has found alternate digs so the house will now be fixed. Quote
