So pathetic.... the most corrupt administration in Canadian history and the Cons would do anything to keep their grasp on power. Including, no doubt get their oil buddies to release an email a couple days before an election.

On a weekend where nobody can do anything about it.

Exactly. Too late for any kind of investigation so the accusation will hang their during the election.

Are you suggesting the "CONSERVATIVES" tricked the Liberals into hiring the former head of the oil lobby, that has had past dealings with Bruce Carson, an employee of TransCanada, that gave insight to his coworkers on how best to lobby a Liberal Government..........

This had Harper written all over it!!

I wouldn't be so sure......and people are paying attention, thats why the MSM has been talking about it for two days now, and why both the CPC and NDP will be talking about for the remaining days.....as Andrew Coyne put it, the Liberals can say good-bye to any prospective Majority now......

I dont think the cpc will pull it out (as much as i want them to). Not enough time to draw up an attack ad or have a formal investigation started. Im pretty sure an official saying an investigation is starting in the middle of a campaign would be devestating.

To extend that further, say the liberals win a minority, the then harperless tories have an election issue when the next lib govt loses confidence as by then an investigation will be completed (providing any wrong doing of course)

Why would you want another corrupt party to take the reins?

"Their oil buddies"??? Come on... get your head out of the sand.... this guy was one of the people Trudeau put in charge of running his campaign. This statement just goes to show how partisan you really are... This Liberal Party oil-insider did something wrong... must have been Harper's fault!!

Again. You seem to have an issue with the concept of innocent until proven guilty. We don't know if this guy did anything wrong. And if he did, we don't know to what, if any extent the Liberal Party was aware.

What we do know, is that an email sent to 5 people at a big pipeline company somehow got to the media 3 days before an election.

Now. Forget for a minute what your NDP buddies tell you about the Liberals being just as bad as the Conservatives and ask yourself this question. Who would the oil companies rather have in power, the Conservatives or the Liberals? It's a no brainer.

Sorry, I'm pretty sure Nigel Wright did something wrong, and so are you.... has Nigel been convicted? People trot that line out when it's "their guys" getting caught doing bad things.

Trudeau has even confirmed that the emails were "inappropriate".... but you'll reserve judgement until he goes to court....

I didn't vote NDP last election, and am not a member of their party, so I don't know where you're getting your party affiliation information from...

You're jumping to crazy conspiracy theories to try and defend the Liberals? They had to be set up!! The Liberals would never do anything wrong... and they certainly wouldn't be in the pocket of big oil and have one of their insiders on their team.... That's a crackpot theory!! LOL

Edited to add:

You just got through telling me that I don't have evidence of wrongdoing in the case of this guy.... (despite Trudeau coming out and saying that the guy did something wrong)

And yet you are accusing the CPC of planting an insider into the Liberal campaign and that the CPC were the ones who leaked the emails....

Do you not see the irony there?

I don't think the Liberals had a high chance of gaining a majority either way. The issue may hurt, it's hard to read its effect at this point. It tarnishes Trudeau, to be sure, but thus far it isn't exactly driving up NDP numbers, which would be the only way now that the Liberals could be seriously damaged.

Either way, it's not going to do the Tories any good. Even if the Liberals lose a few prospective seats out of it, they're still on their way to a plurality, and whatever the NDP thinks of the Liberals, a minority government they hold the leash of is going to allow them to project a lot of policy.

So the liberals start out saying he did nothing wrong, now they admit that he was a scumbag, but Trudeau is saying this morning that Gaigner was as pure as the driven snow for the last 6 months but he suddenly did one really bad thing right out of the blue.

Is he stupid enough to believe that or is he just a liar? Are 35% of Canadians really dumb enough to believe him?

Easy, big guy.

You see how Derek is enjoying this? Who benefits from a wedge driven between the Liberals and the NDP? Figure that out and then it might be easy to figure out who leaked the email.

You might not like the Liberals but there is no way in hell the NDP is going to form a government next week. So until you have some actual evidence of wrong doing, you're only helping the Harper gang by going off the deep end.

Do you agree this resignation raises the spectre of 'pigs at the trough', bitter memories of past scandals and a sobering reality as to whose benefit a Liberal gov't would act.

As I said a week ago, Liberal or Conservative, is largely a matter of changing the pigs at the trough - a fact you agreed with then. Why would you want either of these parties to command a majority? The public interest demands a Liberal minority supported by the NDP to both rid the nation of Harper and to save the Liberal party from itself in terms of corruption.

This resignation serves to hold Liberals to a needed minority.

Why have you suddenly become an old line party booster?

We actually know something about what happened with Nigel Wright - there is actual information. You have nothing but a few out of context email snippets. Keep some perspective.

Trudeau has even confirmed that the emails were "inappropriate".... but you'll reserve judgement until he goes to court....

Inappropriate doesn't mean illegal or even that code of ethics rules were breached. It also doesn't mean that CoE rules were breached.

I didn't vote NDP last election, and am not a member of their party, so I don't know where you're getting your party affiliation information from...

Now you're taking talking points from Derek. I haven't advanced any theory and if I were to, I wouldn't take up your (or Derek's) "crackpot theory". The simplest explanation (and that's usually where I start) is that Gagnier exercised poor judgement in writing an email and someone saw a way to use it for political advantage. Don't forget that TransCanada asked Gagnier for advice and then suddenly, an email that helps the Cons winds up with the media.

Edited to add:

See? You've arrived at a faulty conclusion about what I was suggesting. Maybe that's not your only faulty conclusion.

More information. Fewer unsubstantiated conclusions.

It obviously does raise bitter memories - which is exactly why I'm suspicious as to who is behind the email leak. Where did you get the idea I want anyone to command a majority? I just want to avoid the Cons getting back into power - even in a minority situation. Or have you forgotten the past 10 years?

This resignation serves to hold Liberals to a needed minority.

Why have you suddenly become an old line party booster?

Why does wanting information make me a party booster? The situation is extremely volatile and I'm concerned the Conservatives will be able to use this to get back in. It's exactly their style.

Can you comment on whether or not you are aware of the level of corruption in that liberal government? Trudeau should be, but he has Chrétien on the podium with him.

You are trying to shift blame from the person who committed the act to the person who informed against him. You would have been better off saying nothing.

Why does wanting information make me a party booster?

It's viewed as a stalling tactic. The liberal party itself has moved past the point of denying any wrongdoing, they are trying to pass it off as an isolated incident.

The situation is extremely volatile and I'm concerned the Conservatives will be able to use this to get back in. It's exactly their style.

Its's their style? That's ripe. The liberals just spent three years acting as if $90,000 in bogus travel expenses was the most important thing happening on the face of the earth.

I am.

I'm also aware that the person that has run the most corrupt government in Canadian history, with his party cheating in each of the last 3 elections, is standing on the podium by himself. Because even his past PM's have abandoned him.

I'm asking a good question. Right now, all we have is a juicy allegation. Who benefits from the leaked memo and what is their role in this? The Conservatives have an impressive track record in election cheating so forgive me if I'd like to understand their role (if any) in this.

It's viewed as a stalling tactic. The liberal party itself has moved past the point of denying any wrongdoing, they are trying to pass it off as an isolated incident.

How many candidates have been dismissed across all parties for relatively trivial past comments? They were dismissed the minute any newsworthy information came up so that the party didn't spend its time defending them. This is no different. He's out because he was a distraction. I'm in no position to judge whether what he did was a minor indiscretion or corrupt behavior - and neither is anyone else. There is no information.

Really?

Think you're going to undermine the easily proven claim that Harper's guys have cheated in EACH of his last 3 elections by making me dig up a cite?

A judge determined.
