The Conservatives are struggling in third and it's time to refocus the strategy. Enter "the Karl Rove of Australia", Lynton Crosby. Crosby, also known as "Wizard of Oz", has an impressive record with wins not only in Australia, but also in England. Now he wants to add Canada to his list.

According to a Guardian profile of him, Crosby employs the strategy of wedge politics — finding an issue that can be exploited to split off an opponent's traditional supporters.

So what's going to be used? The C-51 vote? Environment policy?

Yeah, who cares? Well, Harper apparently does. In any case it's interesting to watch the desperation moves piling up. That must be one big bus to get all those people under it!

I'm not sure what Crosby can do. David Cameron won as much because UKIP turned out to be a bigger cancer on Labour than the Tories. Unless Crosby was somehow secretly manipulating Nigel Farage, I'd say the Tories really got rather lucky.

UKIP (a right of center party) paid little on Labour's demise, and was expected to bleed the Tories vote share (which it did to an extent). Labour lost its base in Scotland to a surge in the SNP (despite the previous year's no vote), which is attributed to Labour having to downplay Tory attacks (started by Crosby) that Labour would topple the Government and sign a pact with Scottish separatists, forcing Labour (rooted in Scotland) to campaign against Scottish interests.

Furthermore, such notions of a Labour/SNP Government, forced Liberal-Democrat voters (in Wales and in the South-West of England) to vote Tory blue, forgoing their previous support as Cameron's junior partner in his previous Government..........this, coupled with humanizing Cameron in the last several weeks and precision wedges in each constituency the Tories had a chance of gaining and the result was clear.

The Tories didn't get "lucky", as it was a thought out strategy by Crosby, who's own internal polling predicted a ~305-333 seat win, despite private polling saying a weak minority (at best) going right up to election day........

Right of center parties pay Crosby close to a million dollars for several weeks/months work for a reason.....

Look closely enough, and it is possible to see the influence of those and other prominent Democrats on the Liberals’ and NDP’s election preparations – just not in the ways one might expect, based on some of the hype about high-tech methods set to be imported.

All the analysis shows UKIP ate into Labour's vote.

From your link:

Labour officials admit the Tories’ repeated warnings that a minority Labour government would be propped up by the Scottish National Party persuaded many Tory defectors to Ukip to “return home”, while Labour switchers stuck with Mr Farage’s party.

“Ukip damaged us much more than we expected,” one senior Labour source admitted. “People who didn’t want a Labour-SNP government voted in a Tory one, even though they were not enthusiastic about the prospect.”

To suggest UKIP played a key role in the outcome is akin to saying the Green's influence heavily here..........

I thought the Lib Dems would have self-destructed on their own. The voters who had voted for free tuition got quite the opposite. You could just vote Tory if you wanted the coalition's agenda to continue.

Sure, or wanted a Tory minority defeated by Labour/SNP.......

What is the "wiz of Oz" going to do, he can't change the last ten years of the Harper's rule and all the scams and schemes and the corruption like it never happened. Harper is being judge his HIS actions and his parties and like ALL PM's that have been in for numbers of years, voters want change. The only one that would be coming out ahead is the Wiz and the amount of money Harper is paying him or is it the party?

The Daily Mail reported that Mr. Crosby told Mr. Johnson to concentrate on traditional Tory voters instead of chasing “fucking Muslims.”

Clearly, someone who is an expert at appealing to and bring out the worst in people.

In other words, a perfect fit for Harper's Conservatives.

Canadians don't like outsiders messing with their elections. Look at what happened to Ignatieff. Hiring an Australian to get involved in the election will only hurt the Conservatives.

What's the difference?

Heck, I'd even support a common labour market between Canada and other countries.

Doubt it. Canadians can hardly be bothered to pay attention to what is going on in the election.

Harper's attack on Ignatius was ludicrous. Harper supports free trade yet expects the goods to somehow trade themselves without people crossing borders sometimes?

Seeking better opportunities abroad make one a traitor to the Canadian Reich?!

Harpwr's attack on Mulcair having dual citizenship was equally stupid especially given that Mulcair obtained it after he'd been separated from his family in an emergency evacuation since he did not have French citizenship. So much for Harper's family values. You have to be sick in the head or have no heart to blame Mulcair for wanting French citizenship after that.

damn, Harper looks like an old man in those ads! Talk about holding office aging someone! When Harper says "we balance the budget", that's excluding those 7 years in a row with deficits, right?
