It's hard to think of a western government with more economic problems than Greece. It's got immense budget deficits and huge unemployment. But with socialists, other things are more important. So last week Greece's socialist government ordered Eldorado Gold Mines to shut down several mines it has been working on in Greece, and to lay off thousands of employees there. The socialists and environmentalists have been steadfastly opposed to gold mining for some time now - economics be damned.

Well, Greeks, right?

But then I came across this story about all the incredible bureacracy Kinder Morgan has been going through for the last two years trying to expand its Trans Mountain pipeline. And I note the NDP are opposed to this and just about any other pipelines, and have made statements suggesting that - economy be damned, they still want to close, or at least, curtail production in the oil sands (and likely everywhere else too).

The NDP, the oh so innocent NDP.

And the reason I would vote NDP is because all past conservative and liberal governments have been in power and self serving (though this conservative party wins the Gold in all these) but NDP has never formed a government at Federal level and now for the first time ever they have a chance to do so. So lets give them a chance and hopefully they won't be as bad as the governments we have had over the past many decades. Crossing my fingers.

Ontario gave Bob Rae a chance, remember how that turned out?

Shame about the NDP, I don't know why Mulcair wants to turn right. If he would have kept what Layton had going, it would have been fine.

I don't want to be too critical before the manifesto comes out, but its not looking goos??

Amazing. God bless you. I initially thought you were trolling. You were insufferable back when I was here. Glad you burst out of that shell. I'd love to talk to you about it.

Leaping from one insufferable extreme to another seems just as extremely insufferable, but to each their own I guess.

Think about it folks. The NDP daycare plan will cost you higher Federal taxes and Provincial Taxes. You have to ask yourself, do you really want to pay all this extra money to take care of your neighbour's children?

If it gets moms working rather than sitting at home taking care of kids I'm all for it.

So you think kids are better off away from their parents in favor of paid statist caregivers?

Some for sure. My parents had no choice but to both work when I was young so I spent most of my life up to the age of 11 at day cares and babysitters. There were many children there with me, I still know some of them. We all turned out fine. I got to see my parents at night and on weekends. Never thought anything of it and I'm sure they were just happy they could provide for me.

And when parents are working they are making/spending money, therefore generating economic activity and, paying taxes. Mulcair claims he can show were the returns actually ore than offset the costs.

"Gets them"??? You think mothers should be forced to not stay home to take care of their own kids?

Besides, Moms can work without state run daycare.

No one is forced to do anything, not sure where you got that from, It's their choice weather they want to use them or even work at all. You think the righties would be all over this. Heck the moms could even apply for a job at the daycare, get two birds stoned at once.

Sure moms can work without state run daycare but they'd have to find someone to look after their kids either way. Most parents just stick their kids in front of a tv these days anyways I don't see a whole lot of actual parenting going on. Might as well get them working, at least part time. Generate some economic activity.

Aren't you one of those "statist caregivers" or is being a teacher not part of your new schtick, Mr.?

When I was heavily invested in Marxism, yes, that is what I one believed. That kind of thinking was hammered into me at university. I blindly believed it. Now I know I was dead wrong.

I don't have a schtick.

Reminds me of the absurdity of the American Right (which is where Harper&co. get their ideas) which tries to remove the reproductive choices from young women, and with the same hand denies any responsibility for the welfare of those children after birth and onward. That's why the right can create an endless supply of money to blow shit up or build their vanity projects, but daycare...the horror!

The results betray the obvious strategy: re-establish and solidify patriarchy by keeping women chained to child-rearing and have to choose:

1. dependency on a man to provide for them and their children.

or the option left for the underclass:

2. raise those children in poverty on minimum wage and consign them to a life of minimal parental involvement, bad schools, bad employment prospects in adulthood including a high likelihood of being subject to the law enforcement/ incarceration complex.
