I have a great idea. Let's enforce sterilization on single men and women who live in poverty. And for those whose marriage ends in divorce resulting in single moms, let's take their kids away so they can be adopted by wealthy families.

I would say pay them $1000 to get sterilized. That would solve the problem entirely.

Also, they might try to work out their relationships before grabbing a pencil and seeing if it's more lucrative to leave their man. And, this whole mantra of "I want baby, but don't want or need a man/father" should be discouraged.

I personally have made a lot of effort in making my relationship work. I've had several opportunities to sleep with others. I've made the responsible decision. Why can't I expect others to do the same. And why does some people expect me to support others that didn't?

I personally have made a lot of effort in making my relationship work. I've had several opportunities to sleep with others. I've made the responsible decision. Why can't I expect others to do the same. And why does some people expect me to support others that didn't?

Well , something that gets lost in the whole "deadbeat dad" hysteria, is that more often than not, we have a man who is all willing to stick it out for the kids sake and try to make the relationship work. Mostly, its the woman leaving the guy (or kicking him out)...and why not, she really doesn't lose anything, and in many cases she gains.

Actually, everyone should be sterilized, at birth. Then, when one has reached the right age and passed all the tests, (all of them, no free passes) one can get a child-having licence and get the operation reversed.

In the two instances I've personally observed, that was exactly the case.

Hell no. I'm serious. The only way to eradicate single moms since we don't want them is to remove their opportunities to get pregnant and the children from the family after a divorce. Maybe we should consider orphanages. That would be cheaper.

But but but Harper has given the tax credit for arts and fitness!

You could save a whole $75 or even $150 for some of those lessons (assuming they qualify etc etc a whole bunch of stupid rules for a lousy tax credit so that some CRA agent sitting in Winnipeg who makes $65,000 per year can then look at the receipts to disqualify your tax credit).

Not for grandparents apparently. Same goes for the 2k we are spending so our oldest grandson can go on a school rugby tour to New Zealand next spring break. Been through that with my tax people. A tax credit would be nice I guess but really has nothing to do with it. I'd much rather be a tax payer than a welfare recipient.

Do you think my grandson is the only one on the team? Rugby is big in BC and many high schools send their senior teams on tours to Australia, New Zealand or the UK at spring break. It is also a tradition in our family. This baby boomer never went but his son and son in law did. My daughter and all my grand kids play. My oldest grand daughter is 14 and was asked to try out for the BC U16 team. Don't know if she made it yet but wouldn't be surprised.

Wealthy, far from it but we've done OK. The reward is being able to do it, not expecting someone else to give you a tax break for it.
