WestCoastRunner
There should be "stigma"...it is not an entitlement to be celebrated. There are often alternatives not explored because living on the dole can be easier and more economic sense. Many choose welfare instead of work/workfare. Maybe...it is much less so these days. Hal 9000
Yes you did. Two different sentences! I never said anything was the woman's fault and I never said that they are all junkie whores, simply that IF a woman was a junkie whore, she'd still almost certainly get custody. At least be honest - or maybe you just can't comprehend.

The Canadian "safety net" and experience is different than in the U.S. Thats true. We actually let the government run ours as opposed to farming it out to the likes of for profit companies like Haliburton etc. Im sure your hero cheney lines his pockets well from it though. bush_cheney2004
Celebrate the Single Mother's Alliance in BC. Note the emphasis on children....not the adult mother/father. http://www.singlemothersbc.org/the_reality
-1=e^ipi
and not statements that are highly offensive to moms in the midst of a divorce. Saying that child custody has a gender bias should not be allowed because it's offensive? Is it a micro-aggression? Not once in your statement did you insinuate that a father may be a drunk and abusive husband. At least be fair. Hal is saying that there is a gender bias in child custody. So if the father is a junkie whore, the mother will likely get custody, and if the mother is a junkie whore, the mother will get custody. Now you may agree or disagree that a gender bias exists in child custody, or whether the magnitude of the bias is as large as Hal is saying, but it doesn't seem fair to misrepresent Hal's position. Canada_First
You try to defend your stance by dragging in instances that moms are junkie whores. You should back up your logic with fair statements and not statements that are highly offensive to moms in the midst of a divorce. Not once in your statement did you insinuate that a father may be a drunk and abusive husband. At least be fair. Some welfare mothers certainly are drunks and addicts. Others are really trying to make ends meet by working part time etc.

Smallc
And now single moms are the underclass in society. Brilliant! Can this thread get anymore demeaning towards single moms and their kids. That's not what I responded to. Single moms can range from welfare queen crack addicts like my mother in law (must be the Irish in her) to wealthy jet setters. bush_cheney2004
More from the ACORN Canada piece...priceless: ....Last month, advocacy groups West Coast LEAF, First Call and the Community Legal Assistance Society called for an end to the claw back, urging B.C.’s political parties to let single parents keep up to $300 in child-support money. In an emailed statement, Social Development Minister Don McRae said the government is not considering reforming its income assistance policies at this time. Income assistance is considered a “program of last resort,” and beneficiaries are expected to pursue other forms of income first, including child-support payments, noted McRae. The statement provided examples of other supports in place for low-income families, such as school startup supplements and the universal child care benefit. “We all recognize this is a tough issue,” said McRae. “While we would all like to do more — we have to balance this with what taxpayers can support.” https://www.acorncanada.org/province-protesters-call-bc-government-halt-%E2%80%98claw-back%E2%80%99-policy-social-assistance-recipients Edited July 7, 2015 by bush_cheney2004
cybercoma
...again with the anti-American bigotry, wtf There are many people of all stripes, single mothers included, who abuse the welfare system, both in Canada and the US. There should be maximums, and in some cases (younger ppl on perpetual welfare because they don`t want to work) workfare. Do you have any idea how many people "abuse" welfare, as opposed to the number of applicants who make clerical errors in filling out the paperwork? Do you have any evidence whatsoever that single mothers are a significant and substantial source of this abuse? Forget that, do you have any evidence or numbers to back up the claim that abuse of any kind is even a problem?
cybercoma
Don't you realize that's what marriage is all about. That's why it's called loving one a other. Literally you take care of one a other. It's not oppression it's love. Wow.Do you realize not everyone gets married? Nor should they have to in order to appease your puritanical notions of what a "proper" life is. cybercoma
That's the rub...many do have other options. Lots of single parents manage without welfare to the max.In the 20s they ran speakeasies. Some sell pot today. Others get into prostitution. Yeah. They "manage."

cybercoma
I suggest the following: Sterilize young boys and girls from families living in poverty. Let's start the girls off as soon as they menstruate. Let's build orphanages so we have a place to put the children that we have taken from the single moms Let's force these children to get out and work to pay for their upkeep What brilliant posts. Eugenics is back! Someone start a political party. This will definitely fly with people that aren't completely insane.
