So why, I wonder, are the PCs making such a fuss over sex ed when they have bigger fish to fry?

Their support comes from the religious and the aged. Anyone with at least a minimal grasp of reality understands that this curriculum is not an issue, but the cons have to put on a show for their base. Though, I'm sure getting embarrassed in QP was not the show they were hoping for.

PCers should get some revenge with the bribery and election fraud issue though. Corruption, fairness and accountability are topics that resonate with left leaning voters.

There are some parents that legitimately would like to handle that kind of thing themselves. But others prefer government to take the lead. It's just a difference of opinion. Not always a lack of understanding of you "learned" special people.

Parents not only still can 'handle this kind of thing themselves', but absolutely should be handling it. These conversations should be taking place long before they are covered in health class. I guarantee kids have already received (mostly false) information about all sex and development topics, from their peers, well before schools discuss them.

We already promote integrity, empathy and equality in elementary schools. As with those that deny evolution, on this issue the opinion of the dissenters doesn't gel with reality. We don't worry about offending a parent's racist or creationist views, nor should we worry about their homophobic views either.

It's about picking the right battles. I don't see this as a winning issue for the PCs in areas where they need support if they want to win anything down the road. They can still oppose it without making such a big deal out of it.

A more significant portion of their base is old and religious. Anytime you need more detailed information to explain basic ideas feel free to ask.

I'm living very comfortably. We all must pay taxes as that is what is needed to run a healthy society. We have an extremely high standard of living. Debt and deficits won't change that. Debts and deficits are necessary for the important social programs we desire. There always will be debts and deficits. They are a part of life in a democratic society.

People say we will end up like Greece. That is nonsense. If Greece's trouble level is 99%, Ontario, in comparison would be at 0.01%. I'm not worried. I will continue to pay taxes to a system that helps everyone.

How do you propose we pay for all that? And why is the government always spending more than their budget? Why does the debt increase and not decrease?

You might be living comfortably, but there are many in this country who can't ever achieve that type of lifestyle. The system does not help everyone.

Great post, mighty AC. You and I share very similar views as we are both statists. It amazes that there are still people out there who deny evolution. I have spent many hour studying macro and micro evolution. Anyone who denies it should not be allowed to vote in my opinion.

Greece is a country. Ontario is a province in one of the richest countries in the world. A little different. If you wish to compare I would look at California. But that example hurts your argument because it has less debt, a larger population and a higher GDP.

I donated money for a girl in a small town for surgery that OHIP refused. A sneeze could have killed her. A evil corporation paid for a young boy to get surgery so he could have sight.OHIP also refused that. But they will pay for a sex change operation.

I agree with education and health care. Never said otherwise. But when I see MY,YOURS and everybody's hard earned tax dollars spent on whim's or flushed down the toilet than yeah I get a little pissy.
