Well, if Harper's supporters are like HIM, I really feel sorry for them but I hope they are smarter than he and see all the things he has said and done, and still doing, especially Bill C-51, which really goes after more Canadians than terrorist....but hey, under Bill C-51 anyone against the gas and oil sector and protest is considered a terrorist!

Hey - be careful what you wish for - if all the C-51 supporters and all the people in favour of the no-Niqab-for-the-Oath vote for Harper, we'll end up with the biggest mother of a majority of all time.

That's it. All the stuff about the niqab being antithetical to Canadian values is a mere afterthought designed to whip up the base and keep the cash rolling in.

Try reading your own quote:

This is not simply a practical measure. It is a matter of deep principle that goes to the heart of our identity and our values of openness and equality. The citizenship oath is a quintessentially public act. It is a public declaration that you are joining the Canadian family and it must be taken freely and openly.

Try reading your own quote:

Which has **** all to do with what the niqab itself represents. He could be talking about any face covering. the point was entirely about seeing the person making the oath: that's the "values" he's talking about respecting.

This is disgusting. If we go to a Muslim country women must adhere to their rules but apparently they can come to Canada and tell us how it is. Just disgusting.

Who's telling YOU anything? Nobody's telling you how to live your life or what you can wear. You on the otherhand......

rania-el-alloul-declines-50k-crowdfunded-donation

"The awareness raised by this campaign has brought us people from all over, who have offered support to carry this issue forward," El-Alloul wrote.

"As a result, I believe that these funds can be put to better use helping those whose rights have been forfeited and stories left untold."

Personally, if somebody insists on covering their face when taking the oath of citizenship, I don't think Canada is the country for you.

And there you have one of the many beauties of Canada, you can think, and pretty much say, whatever you want.
But you can't 'force' your opinion on someone and demand that they change their behaviour, of course.

Canada must tell Muslims before they come here that in Canada honour killing is not allowed. Neither is female circumcision or killing cartoonists. Nor do we force women to wear a face veil or a body sack.

If the Muslims do any of these things that are illegal they will be arrested and perhaps deported. We don't need people who won't embrace our values and way of life.

We cannot force Muslims to not perform honour killings or not to treat their wives or wife like property. Nor can we force the Muslims to not kill cartoonists or bomb embassies. You're right.

How many people in favour of the niqab would be ok with a KKK hood or a swastika armband?

All are offensive. The only difference is who is offended.

Are the KKK and Nazis allowed to wear their garb? Are there any laws banning the practice?

No they dont.

Of course they would be better off telling them there are a large group of morons and idiots who will tell them all sorts of crap, most of which isnt true.

And tell them the easiest way to identify those who do is to ask them to spell 'xenophobic' , when they cant , youll know who they are.

Just like we cant force a bank a bank robber not to shoot the teller, but we jail them. This thread is about a woman being allowed to wear her headgear, remember...

So you have no problem with someone wearing KKK hood for the swearing in?

Interesting question.

Is the KKK a legal group in Canada, or is it banned as a hate group?

I know it is on the RCMP security watchlist, and CSIS has been involved in 'disruption' of white supremacist groups.
