What really struck me about this incident was how it became a world-wide top-story even though only two people died. Don't get me wrong; two people too many of course but when you compare the incident and the scale of it to many other events around the world and the amount of attention given to various events it is easy to predict that there will be a lot more incidents like this one in the "important" countries and cities around the world if it ensures your cause to the world-wide audience. After all, attention is like oxygen to these people.

Its like a fire in Lackawanna.

They occur there daily, so not really news.

Same w Aus. Not to mention a pretty slow news day. Look at the 8 kids just killed in Aus, that story doesnt seem to have the same legs does it.

That is a tragic story. Eight children were murdered. But terrorism makes headlines. The media really fails in following the real stories. Or people are just conditioned to be aware of everything 'terrorism'.

It didn't get the attention because two people died. If they had been killed that same day in a traffic accident we would not have known about it. It got attention because it was a siege with hostages. The world was watching many hours before anyone died.

and it was over and done when the media got word of it. No opportunity to camp out at the scene and speculate and ramp up the excitement.

A done deal has a definate lack of drama.
