WestCoastRunner Posted September 22, 2014 Author Report Posted September 22, 2014 Here's a synopsis of Maggie and Pierre: http://www.canadiantheatre.com/dict.pl?term=Maggie%20and%20Pierre Wonderful, thank you. She was an incredible actress and writer. Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass. - Maya Angelou
Derek 2.0 Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Right, you are an enlightened consumer of arts. Prior to leaving the Lower Mainland, my wife and I were both season ticket holders and donors to the Arts Club.........Does that count? Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted September 22, 2014 Author Report Posted September 22, 2014 Prior to leaving the Lower Mainland, my wife and I were both season ticket holders and donors to the Arts Club.........Does that count? not really, especially if you have never heard of her. Save your stuffy bs. Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass. - Maya Angelou
Derek 2.0 Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 PS - Posting this to the Arts and Culture should be good enough, I would think. Agreed......I see no reason to create a subset based on sex, with that said, I feel WCR’s concerns can be addressed by various threads started in the current categories……..i.e. Women in Cabinet in Federal Poltics or Women athletes in Sports and Rec etc…… Quote

I am sick n tired of bs ticket holders. Do you have any understanding of how grotesque this sounds? Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. Derek 2.0 Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 not really, especially if you have never heard of her. Save your stuffy bs. I fully admit, I probably haven't heard of even a fraction of all women in theatre........none the less, I fail to see why you continue to attack me in this, as such, I'll stop responding to you in this thread since it's clearly an emotional topic for you. All the best. Quote
Guest Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Why on Earth would this site have sub forums based on Gender? If someone you appreciated dies, post an RIP thread, as you have done here. Those who remember the person can make their contribution, others, who didn't know them, might choose to look them up. If there's a thread for men who die, I'll sign the petition to get rid of it. Quote
Derek 2.0 Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 I am sick n tired of bs ticket holders. Do you have any understanding of how grotesque this sounds? How so? We quite enjoyed the old Stanley, parking was a PITA there though......by far, my personal favourite was a production of Waiting for Godot about seven or eight years ago....What is grotesque by people donating money to the arts? I'm sure the late Ms. Griffiths benefited throughout her career from both private and corporate donors. Quote
Bonam Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 It is for stories like these that I would like to have categories for women on this forum. I would like to recognize women like Linda but unfortunately, I have recommended categories and they have been ignored. It seems that this forum only rules for men. Why would you expect that there would be more/better response to this thread in a "category for women"? There are several women who post on this forum (obviously far fewer than men) and they all can see this thread and reply to it (or not) as they like. Creating a "women's issues" or something sub forum does not seem like it would necessarily attract more female posters to MLW, nor would it be the right place to post an obituary in any case. As for your outrage about people not knowing who Linda Griffiths is... seriously, we're bad human beings if we don't know the name of every celebrity and half-celebrity and performer out there? I know the names of like 3 actors maybe cause I don't pay attention to pop culture. Sue me. Quote

Notwithstanding this board simply doesn't have the body of mass to support them... properly support them. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Interview with Daniel MacIvor, spoke about a landmark film starring Griffiths that I hadn't heard about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lianna Seems worth checking out. Shady Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 She was a well recognized, and award winning artist and yet, she is still ignored by the male society of Canada. This is why we need female representation even on this forum. So males are suppose to take notice and be interested in things they have no interest in? You gonna force people to? This post and your assertions of bias are completely absurd. I swear you look for things to complain about. Quote

Bryan Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 Linda Griffiths is relatively unknown because she's an obscure artist, not because she's a female. Gender in no way enters into the equation. There are plenty of male actors that most people also have never heard of. Quote
