But we've been doing our best to discourage tobacco smokers for decades, and now you want to create a whole new unhealthy habit for everyone to enjoy publicly?

I didn't create the habit and I don't encourage or discourage, I just want to stop needlessly throwing people in jail.

Your cite does not support your statement.

The claim was Trudeau smoked weed with Emery 4 or 5 times, which is not true. Emery says he smoked weed with Trudeau once, which Trudeau denies. Trudeau has admitted to smoking pot as an MP before. Why would he lie about something so minor?

(Another thing: if we met in real life, and I sparked up a joint in front of you, I could tell people I smoked pot with Argus and not be a liar.)

It's a drug which is very bad for you. Why shouldn't it be illegal? And before you ask, I'd say tobacco should be illegal, too.

What about alcohol?

Pot is banned for the same reason as the speed limit is made low, because it's considered to be in society's best interests.

Even if that were true, why not re-instate alcohol prohibition on the same lines?

I'm sorry, but I thought the whole idea behind voting in someone like Trudeau was he'd be a breath of fresh air and do everything differently?

Yet it doesn't seem to matter that he's as arrogant and controlling towards his caucus as Harper is, and now it doesn't seem to matter that he's dishonest. Where' this breath of fresh air again?

It's the only breath of fresh air we've got.

It's pretty convenient that Shady completely ignores the article that begins:

"Responsible drinking" has become a 21st-century mantra for how most people view alcohol consumption. But when it comes to cancer, no amount of alcohol is safe.[1] That is the conclusion of the 2014 World Cancer Report (WCR), issued by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Declared a carcinogen by the IARC in 1988,[2] alcohol is causally related to several cancers. "We have known for a long time that alcohol causes esophageal cancer, says Jürgen Rehm, PhD, WCR contributor on alcohol consumption, and Senior Scientist at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, "but the relationship with other tumors, such as breast cancer, has come to our attention only in the past 10-15 years."

Cigarettes are actually chemically addictive. Pot is not. As for the harmful effects of THC, we don't really know because not much research has been done, thanks to the anti-drug zealots. But there's a host of positive benefits from cannabis use for some people. There's none for cigarettes.

And there's evidence of THC reducing and preventing tumours. So yeah. There's that.

This is one of the cleanest governments we have had in yrs. Nobody will ever be perfect. And the robo calls is one guy and he should be going to jail. The NDP is a lot more corrupt then anyone else.

If you call Harper "clean" you're setting the bar awfully low. For instance, how did being "clean" earn him the dubious distinction of being the first PM in history to get the "contempt of parliament" award?

I am in physical state and an age where a great part on my health plan is pain management. I have tried everything form Vicodin to OxyContin. All these pain killers have side effects that are not only dangerous but repeated use of these medications themselves become addictive.

Local physicians will not prescribe marijuana and I have to pay exorbitant fees to get access to the Toronto clinics. I do not smoke so I ingest the THC in various other forms. No side effects. It has been a very effective but very expensive pain control vehicle.

I resent the fact that it is not covered by any insurance and that it costs me far more than the “illegal” smoking stuff that anyone can get downtown in our small town. I do not trust the local illegal distributor so I continue to pay the high prices. BTW - It still costs me next to nothing for the old “legal” and addictive pain killers. Dispensing fee only.

Time to legalize the drug.

Not to be flippant big guy , but find a teenager you can trust.

He'll have it at your house in 20 mins.

Barring that, talk amongst your friends, if you are anywhere from 50 to 65, you have friends who smoke it but may not be open about it.

Excellent point. It should be legal, prescribed and covered under prescription drug plans. You should be able to easily and legally buy it in capsule or edible form like you currently can with existing pain medications.

This is a temporary work around, but people shouldn't have to become criminals to treat pain in a healthier manner.

I hear you. But my other problem is the people who are supplying the MJ also supply other illegal drugs. I do not want to do anything to promote illegal drug sales and profits going towards more crime.

The reason I posted in this political thread is that the Conservatives own (or had owned) most of the blue and white hair rural vote. If those into their autumnal years realize that legalized MJ, promised by Liberals, would save on their personal heath costs then that brings another game into the works.

I am hopeful that the Harper clan will see this and change their policy and platform before the next election.

As for alchohol there are many variables in how someone can use alcohol to achieve impairment, it's no an apples to apples comparison.

It's the same for marijuana. There are just so many ways to use it.

Especially when corporate America takes over. In Colorado and Washington there are already all kinds of baked goods, candies, inhalers, preloaded e-pens and, as previously mentioned, gummi bears.

Anybody I've ever known who's used it with any frequency has been pretty chronic.

Hmmm, interesting. It's the exact opposite for me, the pot smokers I know are occasional users.

Because prohibition has always been so successful.

I would agree, judging by the use of my acquaintances.

A BC family is considering moving to Colorado so they have access to a strain of mj called Charlotte's web that helps with epileptic seizures so they can treat their child. It is the only form of medication so far that has been successful.

n.

Pot is a soft drug and usually there isn't much of an overlap with hard drugs. In a way many pot dealers frown upon harder drugs. Of course there are exceptions but generally speaking the two are distinct (in spite of what Harper et al would have us believe).

If you were in BC, you would have no problem finding something to fill your needs. Please accept my sympathies for what you are going through. It's not fair that you have to go through this to find something to alleviate your pain and discomfort.

I don't know. Unless he's going to a MMD, BC weed is too strong for someone who just needs pain-relief. It's hydro and very potent. There are lots of farmers in Southern Ontario growing organic pot in the sun and there's also a lot of organic Jamaican (yard) weed in the GTA.

I think for what he's looking for he's better off where he is.

Ok, that may be so. I don't know what's available in Ontario but I do know many folks who grow their own in BC for personal use and it isn't potent at all. As we all know, it's who you know.

Friends with organic weed are friends indeed! :)

Personally, I can't smoke BC bud, it's just way too strong but I had a friend in town from Ontario and I had a 'Trudeau-like evening'...The kids were at grandma's (or kid in my case), we were sitting around with a group of friends, well and you know how the rest goes.... and I was quite impressed with the difference.

Good thing I don't live there in Ontario...

Very interesting! I grew up in Ontario and I do recall friends 2nd bedrooms full of the 'plantations' and it did seem good at the time. Of course, no one ever heard of 'organic weed' back then!
