sharkman Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) This may be one of the few times we agree. I used to post an average of 8-10 posts a day here. Now I am rarely here. A combination of the farcical juvenality of the discussion and my own receipt of a barrage of warnings and suspensions has led me to reduce my time here. Google for me as JBG or JBGUSA elsewhere. And NYCNDP on Rabble. I concur completely. Warnings, points and such. This forum is a shadow of its previous self. Edited September 20, 2015 by sharkman
WestCoastRunner Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) Posting a comment that a post is priceless is not flame bait. MLw is going too far in censorship. Why is it flame bait if it's true? Edited September 20, 2015 by WestCoastRunner I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass. - Maya Angelou
Argus Posted September 20, 2015 Author Report Posted September 20, 2015 I support getting rid of the status updates. Sometimes they can be interesting. But when someone comes here, doesn't take part in any discussion, but repeatedly posts political links in the status updates, their account should be removed. Why is it flame bait if it's true? So what would you call it? An attempt to take part in meaningful discussion? On Guard for Thee Posted September 21, 2015 Report Posted September 21, 2015 I concur completely. Warnings, points and such. This forum is a shadow of its previous self.I'll add my concurrence to that as well.
Argus Posted September 21, 2015 Author Report Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) I concur completely. Warnings, points and such. This forum is a shadow of its previous self. I wouldn't say it's that bad, but it has definitely degenerated in the past ten years. If moderation is responsible, however, it would be the lack of moderation, not excess moderation. There used to be a lot more discussion here, as opposed to character assassination. There were fewer one line drive-bys, and fewer wingnuts. That meant the site attracted a number of extremely intelligent individuals on both sides of the political spectrum who could articulate sound and reasoned opinions on a variety of subjects. Too many people on this site now only know how to sneer, mock and ridicule the people who disagree with them, as opposed to focusing on the subject under discussion. That's particularly so on the Left side of the political spectrum, perhaps due to the sympathies the moderators have with their ideological views. BC_chick Posted September 21, 2015 Report Posted September 21, 2015 Really, Argus. And who are these fellow right-wingers who are the great debaters on the site? You, and let's see.... Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Oh and maybe smallc, but he claims to be not conservative so I'm not sure if he can be counted. It's kind of the worst thing that any humans could be doing at this time in human history. Other than that, it's fine." Bill Nye on Alberta Oil Sands
drummindiver Posted September 21, 2015 Report Posted September 21, 2015 Really, Argus. And who are these fellow right-wingers who are the great debaters on the site? You, and let's see.... So, you question Argus' post, then follow it up with a post detailing his exact point?
BC_chick Posted September 21, 2015 Report Posted September 21, 2015 What is there to debate? In case you missed it, we're in the Support and Questions section. The topic is the board itself. You replied with, what I assumed (?) to be snarkiness. To claim there is no debate and the board is the topic on the thread "Moderating Mapleafweb's Moderation" seems, to quote JT, nonsensical.
Smallc Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Oh and maybe smallc, but he claims to be not conservative so I'm not sure if he can be counted. I'm whatever suits me at the moment. You may have a hard time believing this, but I'm having a really hard time deciding which of the 3 parties I'm going to vote for (not that it matters in my riding). This happens to me every election.

Canada_First Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 lol For some reason, I just don't believe you.... Thats the beauty of this forum. We don't all need to agree. However we do all need to be positive members.
Smallc Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 For some reason, I just don't believe you.... I'm not surprised, but it's the truth. I support some things that each party does. I think that the CPC is wrong on quite a few things actually (right to die, drugs, prostitution, science, etc). The trick for me is figuring out what's more important. I value competent management above all else.

Argus would be better served if he re read many of his own posts. Then perhaps do as he says, not as he does.

A lot of your leftist friends believe he is the one shining light on the right. Personally, I haven't seen any ad homs from him.
Black Dog Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Argus is as free with personal attacks and insults as anyone else on this board. He'll tell you he only does it in retaliation when others do it first, but I don't think that works here any more than it does in the sandbox in kindergarten. It's a shame, because he is really the only avowed conservative on the site who isn't a kook, troll or mouthpiece.

It's a shame, because he is really the only avowed conservative on the site who isn't a kook, troll or mouthpiece. There are a number of conservatives on this site who are none of the above. I don't know any regular conservative posters who do nothing but post one or two line sneers at other posters the way several regular posters on the Left here do*. I don't know any conservative posters who inject the same level of bitterness and antipathy, and sheer character assassination in their posts as several on the Left do. And I remind you that I have never claimed to be a virginal innocent. When I drive on the highway I drive at 100k. Why? Because everyone else does and I'm keeping up with the flow of traffic. If the speed limit was actually enforced I'd drive the speed limit, but of course, it very very rarely is. *exempting one alleged American who likes to mock Canadians. Black Dog Posted September 22, 2015 Report Posted September 22, 2015 Really? I know you are , but what am I? Seriously, there are many intelligent posters from all sides, even if you don't agree. Let's put it this way: I'm as quick with an insult as anyone. But I don't complain about it. I fine the hypocrisy of bemoaning bad behaviours while actively engaging in the same to be a bit rich. Everyone would be better served re-reading my posts, as opposed to reading yours. Here's a great example of what I mean. A content-free post designed solely to bait another poster into another round of insults. That's fine if you want to play that game, but don't go on about character assassinations, one line drive-bys and other forms of ridicule when you're dealing in the same.

You forgot the part where you're also complaining about all the other drivers who are speeding at 100K. That's what I'm talking about.

The information content, and entertainment value are both considerably higher. Value?, right. Such as labeling a poster some sort of animal running away trailing his own excrement, that kind of value we can do without. But keep trying.
