overthere Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 Perhaps they'll only allow a 50% claim for inter-city moves......but whatever it is, it'll be known in perpetuity as the Andrew Leslie rule. I don't know why the govt would pay anything for that, what could be the rationale? RCMP and military do get end-or-career moves, with the good reason that they transfer locations often (and often involuntarily). When their career ends by retirement, they should and do get another paid move to wherever they have decided to live and start another career or retire. That sounds fair to me, they will have sacrificed things that non-members would never face, including a much harder time building financial secuirty and spousal careers with the frequent moves.. But if your chosen end-of-military career decision is to stay in the city where you reside, why would taxpayers pay anything? General civil servants don't get the same end-of-career consideration, since they choose their career and geographic moves. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

There are alot of reasons, Gen Leslie had alot of extra responsabilites one of them was to entertain at his home, even work for from home at times with his staff. his last home was probably chosen for these factors, now that he is retired he will not be expected to host parties get togethers , entertain foreign military members etc etc the list goes on. This is very common from the rank of LCol and above. It should also be noted that a large portion of these extra expences are out of their pockets. With retirement , he no longer needs room for all these things, and downsized or found a home with a better lay out. This made the Media because of his high profile, but this happens all the time in the forces, OK not with million dollar homes. but i don't think it is immoral.... Derek 2.0 Posted December 8, 2014 Report Posted December 8, 2014 And more news on the retired General: But the event turned into a political embarrassment for Leslie when his only rival, Ottawa lawyer David Bertschi, showed up with some angry supporters to complain that the party had acted undemocratically last month in disqualifying him from seeking the nomination. And police had to be called in to break-up a fist fight....between Liberal camps.... In his speech, Leslie spoke of the need to defeat Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Conservative government and also provide strong representation to the voters of Orléans. “Why don’t you live here?” someone from the crowd fired back. “Go back to Rockcliffe,” shouted another. Leslie acknowledged to the crowd that he doesn’t live in the riding, but said he is an “Ottawa East boy. Perhaps the General should have used the 72k to move to Orleans....... I think, from today's events, in the months ahead, this picture will be a more common practice among fair-weather LPC members: Brison in 2019 anyone? Quote
PIK Posted December 9, 2014 Author Report Posted December 9, 2014 The general is going to lose and he should. I can see a lot of older liberals going to the conservative party. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
