Seven things I've learned from FOX news.

Whats wrong with a small, efficient government? Also, at what point is government too small that it becomes "dumb" and "ignorant"?

Nothing is wrong with that. But any intelligent person knows that the bigger the bureaurcracy, the less efficient it becomes. There's certain individuals that continue to erect and burn down the strawman of no government. When nobody is ever calling for no government, just smaller and efficient government.

Ahhh... So only dumb, ignorant, bewildered white men watch FOX.

More brilliance from the wizard of smart.

Sadly just more stereotypical bigotry coated with hatred and vulgarity, and light on any facts. But it's no surprise. This indvidual calls a network starring Al Sharpton intelligent.

It's demonstrably true that FOX viewers are dramatically misinformed about issues, not only from the posts in this thread, but I made a thread quite some time ago mentioning the research that supports this claim. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/topic/19869-fox-news-viewers-know-less-than-those-who-dont-watch-any-news/

No, that's an urban myth, carried on by you and your ilk. A study based on a poll of 612 residents of New Jersey was used to create the fabrication, that knee-jerk Fox News hater took hook line and sinker. I'm still suprised those lies are still making their way around this forum. But I guess if something goes uncorrected, the usual suspects continue to spread it as some kind of gotcha.

Exactly…..And what’s more, the continued labelling of FOX as espousing such policies wholesale…..As I said before, there certainly are FOX personalities that do (Hannity, Coulter, Stossel etc), just as there are FOX personalities that champion big government solutions for conjured problems (Colmes, Williams, Marshall, Beckel), combined with the majority of on-air personalities that hover around the middle of the road or don’t even make their personal political leanings known (O’Reilly, Van Susteren, Kelly, Baier etc)

there has been more than one study. Several in fact that point to the same result.

Also, there was nothing wrong with their methods. A sample of 612 people from Jersey is more than enough. In fact, it's best that they didn't pick people from different regions because it controls for some characteristics of respondents that you can't control.

you know the research wasn't done by Huffington Post, right?

Was it done for them though? Odd that said research would indicate those that not only watch FOX, but also MSNBC (which scored just as poorly) would be considered the least informed compared to those that turn to Time Warner media outlets.

Maybe yes...maybe no...gay porn is a different product than cable news. You gotta problem with gay porn ?

Fox News Channel has been #1 in ratings since about 2002 in the U.S. The "progressives" have not figured out a way to package their message on radio or television in a way that beats "conservatives" in the market. Moving to Canada might help.

As you seem to be a fan of Fox I am just interested to ask about your thoughts on Rush Limbaugh and Jerry Springer.

My thoughts don't matter....Canadians vote with their television remotes and think that free American TV is their right:

Having established an early foothold in Canada’s households, it was difficult to disabuse Canadians of the idea that unfettered access to U.S. ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates — and later PBS and Fox stations — was some kind of a Canadian right.

My TV certainly isn't free, and they can take Fox out of the package anytime. I won't miss it. I do vote with my remote I suppose. I watch CBC for news. That way I get a balanced approach that isn't tainted by shareholders influences.

Small? Big? Government should do what government needs to do on behalf of society, and what the private sector can't or won't. Thus, to take one example, government should provide efficient, effective health care, something the private sector has demonstrated it is incapable of providing. No real conservative would look at the shockingly expensive and inefficient waste of resources which is the US health care system with any degree of approval.

Government should provide servives that are necessary. A lot of US cities have drastically cut back on their police and fire services, for example, to save money. They need to because they're broke. They're broke because their tax system is screwed up. I don't regard slashing necessary services in order to cut taxes to be something conservatives do. That is something idiots do. A real conservative would raise taxes, if necessary, to pay for necessary services. In the US, a lot of so-called conservatives want to do away with things like school lunches and drastically cut back pensions for the elderly, all so they can cut taxes more. Dumb, ignorant.

Yeah, basically. They're the heart and sould of the viewership. Then there are the people who have been coopted into believing the drivel which passes for political philosophy on FOX, and lap that stuff up. They're mostly young and don't know much about the world. So I guess you could call them ignorant, too, regardless of their level of education.

But I'm not even talking about the shouters. I don't actually watch the shouters much. I'm talking about the general coverage of news itself, rather than the clearly opinionated ranters. I'm talking about the morning show Fox and Friends, and the general news coverage during the day. You know, as I was flipping channels today I came upon MSNBC where they were interviewing a retired general who talked about Obama in unflattering lights. You can watch FOX for ten years and you won't find an intervewee coming on to say good things about Obama, or any other Democrat. If you don't have something bad to say about him you don't get invited onto FOX, unless you're really poor at defending your opinion and can be put up against some FOX 'conservative' who will demolish you.

Bill O’Reilly has stood up for President Obama and his administration numerous times……..He even wrote a book on all things Good, Bad and Ugly with Obama…

Just more of his strawman nonsense. Just like with Fox News. If he knew that almost all of Fox News opinion contributors were against the government shut down his head would explode! lol

Lucky for you that wasnt the case.

To quote Fox contributors..."only 17% of the govt is shut down"

Not to mention that Fox did a poll of their viewers and found by a 2-1 margin that a shutdown...wait, partial shutdown, wasa good thing.

You really should know your stuff before spouting strawman phrases, make you look sillier than normal.

But ...carry on.

You are missing the larger point, which this anti-FOX rant only reinforces. Many Canadians watch American media outlets for news and entertainment, and have done so since the birth of broadcast television, particularly in border areas. This continued right on through the infamous cheater satellite rigs and pirate cable boxes of the '80s and 90's. And now we get a rant that complains about the format of a foreign cable news channel. Can't make this stuff up.....I guess the CBC just isn't enough, eh ?

Wow, one contributor out of dozens, correctly pointing out the fact that most of the federal government wasn't shut down, and citing an unscientific poll? Congrats, you really showed me. You cherry pick worse than Dick Cheney's WMD intelligence.

Sorry, I figured you would know an 'S' means plural , not one.

Mea Culpa, should have remembered to dumb it down for you.
