overthere Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 I don't think so, but the outcome seems to rest in the hands of foreigners at many levels. It's Alberta's resource....take control of how it gets to market and who profits the most. It is Albertas resource until they sell it, in the ground. You sound like you want AB to nationalize oil production. Look, if you're some kinda commie about oil, Venezuela needs you badly. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

overthere Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Alaska did it 40 years ago. No they- the state of Alaska- didn't build anything The pipeline in Alaska was built by a consortium of international oil companies using Japanese steel/pipe. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

As was bitumen mining in Alberta...and pipelines across many U.S. states. So what's the problem getting a pipeline to the Canadian coast(s).....tree huggers? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Moonlight Graham Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 I'm actually amazed Obama is willfully and publicly going against big oil interests with his anti-Keystone stance. Obviously must be something else political (local public criticism of Keystone leading to pressure from his party in Congress to veto it?) that is an even bigger pressure on him not to support it. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
Big Guy Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 The Nebraska hurdle has been eliminated. It is only a matter of time until the government changes and the pipeline is OK'd. Problem is that it takes about 4 years to build it. The consortium building this thing should start building it now in Canada right up to the border and in the USA, South to North right up to the border. When the government finally gives the OK then fill in those few links across the border and the oil could start to flow in days. Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

jbg Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Ummm. Excuse me, but I'm part of the "US public," and I most certainly know who Harper is. As do I. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

So what's the problem getting a pipeline to the Canadian coast(s).....tree huggers? WE already have pipelines to both coasts. The problem has been getting bitumen into them. Or oil. Or LNG. I think what will have to happen is a bit of time and a major haircut to our social contract to get the sheep to look up from their grazing. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
bush_cheney2004 Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Yay !! The Republicans are keeping their promise to Canadians: The Republican-controlled U.S. Senate has passed a bill approving construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline. Nobody other than maybe a few folks around Edonton or Fort Mac. are "whining" for the Keystone. But don't worry about that, the control of CBC is a mystery to maybe work on first. Quote
