scribblet Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 Looks like Justin Trudeau is now pandering to another group of people as he’s promising to ‘reform’ our family class immigration rules. How is he going to finance the $1.5 and $2 billion cost of their health care. (maybe from pot sales) Very effective ethno-politicking indeed. This contrasts Trudeau’s gushing defence of an expanded immigration system with his refusal to criticize David Suzuki, when the patron saint of Canadian leftism called for an effective end to immigration into Canada. http://www.lfpress.com/2013/07/26/justin-trudeau-has-the-wrong-idea-on-immigration If you need another example of how mindlessly sentimental Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is, how shallow and impulsive his policies are, how much his ideology is driven by platitudes and whim, consider his proposal to reform Canada’s immigration system. Pandering to a crowd of Indo-Canadian voters in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey on Wednesday evening, Trudeau promised that were he to become prime minister, his Liberal government would reverse the Tory crackdown on “family class” immigration. cont... Guest Derek L Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 I remember reading about David Suzuki’s comments a couple of days ago, and the response by both the Government and Mr Trudeau are not surprising. Obviously both the Government and Trudeau are political actors and would never openly “offend” a large group of voters, but their individual actions (or proposed actions) should be a examined. With the Conservatives, we’ve slightly tightened the rules on allowing new immigrants to sponsor their elderly family members, versus Trudeau’s stance which is akin to making a large economic drain for Canadian taxpayers by bringing in new elderly Canadians. Trudeau see’s a potential political advantage from a constituency that left the Big Red Machine, and he took it, devoid of consequences. None the less, we won’t hear an honest opinion on this issue from either party (or the NDP and Greens) like we did from Mr Suzuki……..Not sure I agree with Suzuki fully, but he does make some good points. August1991 Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) J Trudeau? Well, what does T Mulcair have to say? ----- Trudeau Jnr is appealing to the poor immigrant urban vote - a vote that will never go Tory. IOW, the federal Liberals and NDP will fight among themselves for voters. Depending on perspective, it's called a split vote - or "divide and conquer". Sandy MacNab Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 No matter what JT's reason, it is a bad idea and I'm sure most tax-paying immigrants as well as the other over-taxed know it. Just another example of poorly thought out policy. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 That Sun News article in the OP quotes Trudeau: Speaking in Surrey, he said, “Liberals understand how we bring over parents and grandparents is how we build strong communities and a stronger Canada.” He accused the Tories of looking at immigrants “as workers in the narrowest way. Liberals understand new Canadians are nation builders, not just units of production. I’m committed to reversing ... improving and opening the immigration system.” Given I don't really trust the partisan hacks at Sun News for reliable non-spin news, I want to know what Trudeau said after the "..." in the above bold sentence. scribblet Posted July 29, 2013 Author Report Posted July 29, 2013 I don't trust the partisan hacks at the Star either but as far as I can tell they didn't even report on it. It's likely a pause, nothing else. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

"Reversing" what? You should watch and read the sun more often. They do really rip both sides and have been a lot better news services then the rest. The only reason you and others don't like it because they also report what the others will not. That is why justin is so scared of sun news reporters. Smallc Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 You should watch and read the sun more often. They do really rip both sides and have been a lot better news services then the rest. I stopped watching them, because their journalistic standards seem to be far below that of other media outlets. Their headlines are more sensationalized, and their coverage is far more biased. They have so many pompous right wing windbags openly working for them that it would be impossible for it to be any other way. Quote

Argus Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 Trudeau Jnr is appealing to the poor immigrant urban vote - That we HAVE enough poor immigrants to be worthy of proposing changes to government policy just to court them is a testament to how poorly our immigration system has performed over the past quarter century. Too much slant towards any ideology is bad for news journalism. Editorials are fine, but keep the editorializing to the editorial columns. Editorializing what a paper covers in its regular news items and picking/choosing and framing what is being delivered on the front page as "objective news" is way over the line. One could argue "objective news" is impossible, but media should at least make their best attempt to be fair to competing views.
