Topaz Posted December 5, 2012 Report Posted December 5, 2012 When the NDP MP Cullen as the Speaker for a ruling about the voting of the Bill, The Speaker ruled against the NDP request and then the Tory Whip gets up and walks over to Cullen and points his finger and apparently by CTV's Rob Fife, F's Cullen, which in turn the NDP leader stands up and says ,"You can't talk to Cullen like that!" and before you know it , everyone is surrounding Tory Whip ! No matter what cause this, no member of Parliament should be allowed to swear in the House and never use the F-word especially. There is NO excuse, tired or not, to use such language but again, its the Tories and they really don't respect the rules. Watch the video, and there is no sound, it was turned off at the time. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2012/12/05/pol-tempers-flare-omnibus-budget-bill.html Quote

eyeball Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 No matter what cause this, no member of Parliament should be allowed to swear in the House and never use the F-word especially. I disagree. There's no excuse for representatives not representing exactly how so much of their base of support really feels about the opposition. There's very little that's polite about politics out here in the real world so why should there be any more in the monkey house that represents it? I look forward to more expressions of real honest feelings, no matter how verbally brutal they are - in the face of how deeply dysfunctional so much of our governance really is getting I'd say its a refreshing change. As an aside, is this incident of incivility a reflection of society in Parliament or is the incivility one often sees in forums like this and elsewhere a reflection of an apparently and increasingly hostile Parliament? Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal
Topaz Posted December 6, 2012 Author Report Posted December 6, 2012 so when does all this come to an end...when someone brings a gun in and shot someone that peeved them off! Don't say it can't happen, people didn't think planes wouldn't fly into buildings either. Where's there's a will, there's a way. Either ALL MP's respect Parliament rules or get out of politics! Quote

Fletch 27 Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 It's nice to see the Tories shedding light on the NDP games. The commons is not to be the Ndp's playground or a place for them to learn how the commons operates. They got outed by the speaker..... Quote

Topaz Posted December 6, 2012 Author Report Posted December 6, 2012 As A daily watcher of QP, I've seen Van Loan get quite angry before and this time he went too far. A MP isn't suppose cross over during QP and a MP isn't suppose swear and especially use the F-word several times, while threatening another MP.. I understand why Muclair stood up when he did but the Tories are making Van Loan a VICTIM! My understanding, Cullen didn't so anything wrong and I think Van Loan needs a long vaction and re-learn the rules of the House, while taking an anger management course! This isn't the first time a Tories got alittle violent, rmember the former speaker Royal ?. He got physical with a Liberal MP, when he crossed the floor. Quote
Fletch 27 Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 Cullen was making a mockery out of the House... The speaker even shot him down.... The House is not a place for little kiddies to roam ramshackle... If the NDP cant figure out decorum?,, Sure, Im ok with Van Loan giving the the NDP a talking too... As with any chilc and child-like antics. As A daily watcher of QP, I've seen Van Loan get quite angry before and this time he went too far. BubberMiley Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 The House is not a place for little kiddies to roam ramshackle Since Van Loan is the one who broke decorum by crossing the floor, I'm impressed at your condemnation of him. I never thought you were capable of a post that wasn't pure partisan trolling. Way to go. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet

BubberMiley Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 Cullen was shot down by the speaker of the house prior to Van Loan providing Cullen an education... free of charge.... Follow the timeline here... Yes, the speaker rejected the NDP point of order. That happens all the time. It's no excuse for a temper tantrum and threatening behaviour from the Tories. But I guess you can relate to that sort of behaviour. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet

BubberMiley Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 If they cant figure out the rules... Step asside and let the Liberals ask the educated questions.. Only someone without any knowledge of House of Commons procedures would think that ruling a point of order to be out of order is a big deal. But threatening behaviour and crossing the floor is a major breach of decorum that could get a member kicked out of the House. Fortunately Van Loan was forced to apologize today for his obvious lack of professionalism and respect for the House. If they had any honour whatsoever, they would remove him as Government House Leader, but I certainly don't expect anything resembling honour from this government.
