And how would you compose and enfore a law that required it?

Carefully and rigorously.

I'd also use cameras. They definitely work when it comes to minimizing dishonesty, as many a dishonest fishermen, not too mention Conrad Black, will tell you.

Alright. Please show your proposed draft legislation and outline your plan for its enforcement.

Sorry, but I'm not a dictator. Doing it carefully would involve starting with something like a citizen's assembly. Of course, like fishermen, politicians should also be involved in designing the system and institution of accountability they are to be inflicted with.

With fishermen the government simply said, unless you want a human observer permanently looking over your shoulder, come up with something else that works. It takes a liar to catch one I guess.

Of course it fell on deaf ears when fishermen suggested we use cameras to keep our managers honest.

So is sycophancy come to think of it.

It is, but you can't stop either. Nobody is condoning it, but it's dumb and naive to pretend it doesn't exist or that it can be eliminated.

Politicians only tell people what people want to hear. If politicians told people that people's standard of living is based on debt and that house of cards will collapse soon, that would be the end of the career of that politician even though he would be telling the truth.

So are most of you saying its okay for the MP's saying anything they want knowing its all a bunch of crap and lies? That's not what Canadians should expect and I bet if poll asked if its ok for MP's to tell lies, its would be over 85% saying no. It's especially bad when the person telling the lie over and over and in that case I think that should be fined $1000.00 and double every time its told. Not a very good example for the rest of Canada especially the kids, who are told not to tell a lie. So what most of you are saying is that would be asking too much of the MP's? No wonder the country is in a mess.

Does not mean we have to accept it. nor should we accept lies from the same people who are elected to govern our lives and society.

Yeah, we need a Ministry of Truth right?

Sure it would be, as it would also be to believe we can't take firmer action to minimize it.

I can't do much about human nature.

I dont know of any aspect of human nature that is at odds with the idea of firing you if you lie to your employer.

I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger

So, you don't know.

I know how it was done with fishermen and I know it works.

All you know is that it can't be done without having even tried.

No one would have a job...or almost no one.

No, we need an independent Commissioner to whom the government must apply to have the things it does made secret and off limits to full public disclosure.

We need less government not more eyeball. I want as little government intrusion into my life as possible.

Yes, don't we all. The thing is however, this is a discussion about us intruding into the government.
