Here is a GREAT poster that tells about the typical day of a teacher. we have to wear so many hats every day. most of you don't understand how hard it is to be a public school teacher these days. we should be paid more not less. this poster should be in every town and city for all unknowledgeable ignorant people to see.

Lots of people have difficult jobs these days. They just don't constantly complain about it to the public.

not too many professions have the many responsibilities this poster states. an accountant is an accountant...that's all. a teacher has 20 other jobs.

Nope. Many people have many different duties within their jobs. They just don't constantly whine about it to the public. They just go about their daily lives.

Most other people do not claim to be something that they are not. Once again, as you appear to be unable to grasp the concept at first saying, you are not a teacher. Dont give me any crap about someday. You simply and truthfully by your own admission are not a teacher. Understand?

Teachers wear many hats, but they should be paid less because there are so many teachers out there. If the job market is any indication, new teachers shouldn't be making anywhere near 50k a year.

Interesting as I believe you are in a highly educated region of Ontario.

Also a region with a strong history support for teachers and the education system.

I do believe a teacher wears many hats.

I find the upcoming substitute teacher preaching to a forum and not doing much listening problematic.

The arguments supporting teachers , teachers pay , what they do are valid. Its open to debate, and it should be done through collective bargaining.

The highlighting of the whinge bucket is also valid.

Perhaps, one needs to open the eyes of what many people are doing is in order.

From what I have seen is that Wages have dropped dramatically while hours of work has increased.

Its been difficult, very difficult for many, and yes while many are still doing ok, we all know good people with good work ethics struggling.

A teacher isn't a police officer, banker, doctor, etc. Hate to break it to you.

Teacher: a jack of all trades and master of none.

<_< mrs wyly is an accountant and she's not just an accountant she has a number of roles many listed on that poster...now you're making the same assumptions as others in the forum who claim teaching is easy, simple, anyone can do it...

This poster is in the realm of mass media - political advertising - meant to endear the public to teachers.

As for the content, sure it's cute but I don't think there is a substantial argument there. It says "I'm a teacher, and I'm proud". Good for you. What am I supposed to do with this ?

What it does is let the ignorant masses know that the job of a teacher is WAY more than just teaching.

Why inform the ignorant masses ? By definition, they are not the 'public'. Presumably they barely pay attention and barely vote.

And why should I care if the job of a teacher is more than teaching ? My interest, as a member of the public, is in seeing that the education system produces quality results at a reasonable cost.

If teachers do 50 things in a day or 2, it really doesn't matter.

You could never be a good teacher with that much disrespect for the unwashed us. You will fit right in.

You're right about something though, teachers do have more to do than teach, just as many people have to do more than one thing at work, the vast majority in fact, teaching like most everything else is just a job.

she's a Sr. accountant in medicine...and ya she does a lot of what was listed but with adults not children, she trains/teaches new employees as well...few jobs are as simple as they may appear to outsiders...

When have teachers ever gone on strike about what the gov tells them to teach kids or the no fail policiy, all they ever strike about is money, benefits, sick days. They never whine about the student themselves.

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

I do think they had a job action around class sizes, though.

yes it is a misconception that the ignorant often say that its about money. educators fought for smaller class sizes because they care about their learners.

Let's be fair on the other side, though. Often it is about money and why shouldn't it be ? This is how they ensure raises and job security.

Who do you think helps educates those future police officers, bankers, doctors ect. ?????

Lol, yes, teachers are responsible for our future, more then say peoples parents, because no one that has been home schooled ever does anything useful, or even people who quit school aren't ever successful. Im sure since many of the pro athletes out there had gym class they wouldn't have succeeded without it, or that if your teacher isn't making 80k/year they won't be able to teach well, it's a silly notion. No one is saying that teachers don't perform an important function, but they don't have peoples lives in their hands, and they don't need to be exceptionally intelligent to do the job. If the government decides to pay less teachers can choose to do something else, there is no shortage of teachers waiting for others to retire who would be more than happy to do that job for a lot less, let alone a wage freeze. Perhaps there are too many old teachers hanging on simply because the job is that easy, why retire.
