PIK Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Yep pretty much sums it up.End of story. Getting a third party to independently appraise the value of the advertising tells me that there was a conflict here with the numbers being thrown around.Perhaps now that the NDP are much more popular I would believe that advertising at one of their conventions would now cost more. I remember when the conservatives were found guilty of the in and out scheme they were saying all the other parties were doing it(without any evidence of course). Good to see the NDP admitting up to this dispute and putting it behind them. WWWTT I did not realize that this is the largest case of illegal elections financing in Canadian history , but how are we suppose to know when one of the groups giving illegal money is the communications, energy and paperworkers Union. So I guess that is elections canada did not go after them because their workers are members of PSAC, so they’d be going after themselves? We need a investigation of EC and it's people, because if the cons were guilty of this, it would be a different response. I am beginning to think the canadian left is so corrupt that a complete investigation is needed. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
ironstone Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Interesting post. The fact that you know the above is that its all been in the media. Infact its all been heavily covered. Even the absurd comments and accusations have been covered and covered over again. And the media often coughs up the Conservative spin of the NDP and its Greece analogy. Seems you know that Mulcair has a short fuse, I believe it was all over the media and especially before he became Leader. But in order to report a short fuse he is still required to say something incredibly idiotic and stupid, like when Harper called Martin a Supporter of Child Porn and then went an hid in his trailer for a week. Even the young woman who ran in Quebec was reported and reported and reported, especially in Quebec papers and the more they mentioned her , and her absence as well as her first comment to a radio station when they realized her french was weak, her poll numbers went even higher vaulting her from 3rd to 1st to a massive lead. See the Conservatives , BQ and Libs , all present and previously in contention with one another were all rejected by those voters. Perhaps it say more about the candidates and the parties, kinda like when an animal keeps getting reelected vs a human as we have seen in the US. But, you want more, seems she has been doing an excellent job, superior to the previous incumbent and I wouldn't be surprised if her votes go even higher next time. I will agree with your last line, Jack would have wanted it this way.... Politics was his way of life. The point I'm trying to make is that Conservative sins, real or imagined, are reported much more often than misdeeds by the Libs and the NDP.A good example is the robocalls scandal. This has been going on for a very long time now,it regularly makes the front page of the Ottawa Citizen and other papers associated with Postmedia News.To date,no charges or concrete evidence have been brought forth.A Liberal DOES get caught and fined, and the call itself get's recorded. This news is in the Citizen for a grand total of.....one day,and not on the front page either. The same can be said for the ILLEGAL campaign donations recieved from unions to the NDP,a very brief mention and that's the end of it!Why no follow up on these stories? And so, after months and months of investigating and millions spent by Elections Canada, where exactly is the hard evidence against the Conservatives?I have read about hard evidence against the Liberal MP and also the hard evidence against the NDP(if you blinked, you would have missed it in most papers). http://www.ottawasun.com/2012/08/27/mums-the-word-liberal-lefty-lawbreaking-goes-unreported Quote "Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it." madmax Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 The point I'm trying to make is that Conservative sins, real or imagined, are reported much more often than misdeeds by the Libs and the NDP. Thanks for giving me a good laugh. The NDP hasn't got a media that supports it. Corporate media moves with the times, but is Very Much Conservative Biased and leaning. Would you like some cheese for that wine..... A good example is the robocalls scandal. This has been going on for a very long time now,it regularly makes the front page of the Ottawa Citizen and other papers associated with Postmedia News. The reason the Conservative Newspapers are covering the story is because its a business and news sells, particularly interesting news. Are you suggesting that the Conservatives are involved in this scandal? Because what has been reported has been what has occurred, and the reason it has had a longer shelf life is that it was a story for a short news cycle after the election. Then some good reporters located alot of interesting information and its a good read, at a similar time Elections Canada announced they were officially involved in an investigation. As the key reporters belong to Post media, it only makes sense they are out scooping the other papers.... To date,no charges or concrete evidence have been brought forth.A Liberal DOES get caught ]and fined, and the call itself get's recorded. This news is in the Citizen for a grand total of.....one day,and not on the front page either. The same can be said for the ILLEGAL campaign donations recieved from unions to the NDP,a very brief mention and that's the end of it!Why no follow up on these stories? 1) Stories follow news cycles and these are driven by A) Reader interest NEW NEWS!!! The NDP story is actually 5 years old (and the news was pretty boring at the time)... there has been mention of the challenge by the Conservatives over Elections Canadas interpretation sent to the NDP, starting in 2006. The NDP continued its practice but kept records and legal council while waiting for a ruling. Things work slow and adverstising monies received at conventions were ruled as corporate and union political donations. Monies were then to be returned to the source.... ITs a story in all major papers and news outlets. I find it ironic you would suggest no one is covering it.... I simply googled NDP (not even specifying the monies, and it came up with 63 news stories. So perhaps you would like to enjoy your wine with Ezra Levant and Sun Media. They can continue to right about this till the cows come home, but its not going to sell another newspaper or gain an extra viewer... Same for the Liberals in Guelph. The Liberals got tagged good , but the difference is they quickly fessed up and the story fades. Once the Conservatives accepted guilt in the In and Out scheme, the story faded.. Thats what happens in politics. Now... if you go through a list of recent Conservative Controversies... they have decided to go the Chretien route.... DENY DENY DENY..... which keeps you popular for awhile but eventually the truth comes out. There was lots of articles about Shawinigate and adscam, but it took years and years of articles before and some GUILTY pleas before the public decided it was time for change. But the media was there reporting. I just find it ironic that Conservative supporters with their recent nasty attack streak have a stripe of yellow on their thin skin. Their is a Strong Conservative Media. National Post Globe & Mail CTV Global Sun Media There is a Liberal Conservative Media CBC (although Cons would disagree as their is a segment that just despises government public television) THere is a Liberal Media Toronto Star ( unabashed Liberal) There is no NDP media that I am aware of....nor media that is inherently friendly to the NDP. Just like back in the day there was NO media that supported the Reform Party. The Corporate Right wing media is still a business which needs to market and sell news. If its a news worthy story, it will last. Quote
Boges Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 Jack's Funeral cost $300k+ http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/1249016--jack-layton-s-state-funeral-cost-taxpayers- 368-326OTTAWA—Last year’s state funeral for Jack Layton came with a sizable price tag, newly released figures show. The late NDP leader’s final farewell last summer cost taxpayers $368,326 — more than the total bill for the recent state funerals of two former governors general. The Department of Canadian Heritage released the full cost of the funeral to The Canadian Press under the Access to Information Act — one week after Canadians gathered to mark the one-year anniversary of Layton’s death. Layton’s untimely passing mere months after leading the New Democrats to the official Opposition benches unleashed a torrent of public grief rarely seen in Canadian politics. Can't think state funerals are cheap but this one twice as expensive as the last one. Quote
