Boges Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Exactly how will they do that? Names please. And do not say Dickey, Happ, Morrow, Hutchison or Buerhle. Please. You can say Stroman, Sanchez, Cecil, and maybe, just maybe Janssen. Only one of those is a starter. And the Jays don't have much to trade that won't gut their team of what little young talent they actually have. They will probably get a starter for Bautista if they trade him early in the off season. When he signed four years ago, it was on the premise that AA would build a winner around his bat. Fail. He's gone. You made the point that Hutch hasn't been in the league very long. He's stayed healthy all season and pitched some gems. You could have Stroman, Sanchez, Hutch and Norris starting next season. All young guys locked up for awhile. Dickey hasn't actually been that bad and he eats innings. Depending how Norris plays, if he gets a shot. You could have a pretty solid top 5. Quote
overthere Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Let's hope you are right, they are going to need vastly improved pitching if their offence is gutted with the losses of Cabrera and Bautista. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Let's hope you are right, they are going to need vastly improved pitching if their offence is gutted with the losses of Cabrera and Bautista. Bautista is signed for next year, so is EE. Cabrera is a question mark. Let's hope he realizes who gave him a chance coming off a bad injury and a PED suspension. Quote
overthere Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Bautista is signed for next year, so is EE. Cabrera is a question mark. Let's hope he realizes who gave him a chance coming off a bad injury and a PED suspension. Here's hoping indeed, but Melke is 30 and has an opportunity right now to earn some lifetime money on a monster contract. He has been good enough that he can expect at least five years for at least $13-$14 million per. The Jays will have to match that, assuming Melke is not intent on playing for a contender because the Jays don't look like one now next year with or without him. Yes I know Bautista is signed for next year. When AA signed him four years ago, it was a fat and risky (to the Jays) deal. Obviously he is a very very good player. Average fielder, excellent arm, good baserunner , terrific bat for power, average and on base percentage- and a team leader. He is signed for $14M per year through 2015, with a team option at another $14 for 2016. But.... he is 33 now, and his next deal after 2016 will be when he is 35/36, and very few get monster money. Does he demand a trade now, knowing it may well come with another 3 -4years at even more money? Or does he hope he is still an elite player when he is that old and can still get big bucks. Nope, I think AA either has to extend now or trade him very soon. or his value starts to drop drop drop. If he still wants to play for a medicocre team, I'd defintiely keep him. Boges Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 Down to 3.5 games. Now they play the Rays at home who they swept last week. The team to beat right now is the Mariners and the Jays get them at home before the season is out. This has to be considered meaningful baseball in September right? Quote
guyser Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 It sure is ! The Jays are looking good again, but that can change overnight really. The future looks very good, young arms, talented too. 5 pitchers of note under 24? Thats a good sign. Quote
Boges Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 Apparently Brandon Morrow pitched last night. Remember him? Quote

overthere Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Can the Jays remain at or above .500? Nailbiting tension!! Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) Can the Jays remain at or above .500? Nailbiting tension!! They've gone into tank mode. At this point it doesn't matter. They could play spoiler against the Mariners but at this point I'd rather see the M's make the playoffs than the A's. It would be hilarious if the A's miss the post season after all the buying they did. Edited September 22, 2014 by Boges Quote
overthere Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 It matters to me, and it should matter to professional baseball players. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 I'm more upset that they decided to win big against at team that's in the playoff hunt when they chances are done. Might as well tank. This Dalton Pompei looks decent. Daniel Norris will get his first start tomorrow. So a typical September providing hope for next year. Quote
guyser Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 Why be upset? Thats what teams do when they have little else to play for. Not to mention Seattle put the hurt on them a bit back that hurt the Jays chances so paybacks a bitch. Anytime you can get ahead of Fernandez with his record is a good day. BTW....its Pompey . Quote
overthere Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 Pompey is yet another in the endless stream of Jays prospects that somehow fail to improve the team. They've got at least two others playing now at the end of another pointless season: Goins and Gose. Both are good fielders, good enough to play in MLB. So far, neither can hit worth shit. Goins had second base wrapped at the beginning of the year, he's headed for a career in the minors at best unless he figures out some way to get on base. Gose is an odd guy. You'd think somebody at this level could do things like bunt , advance the runners occasionally, and display some sense of the game while on base but no...... It's like he is a great athlete who just started playing. Pilar, meh. I'll give Pompey a chance, but there will be no cheerleading until he demonstrates he can hit. The Jays have at least three guys auditioning for center field, Rasmus has been more or less useless there and is thankfully gone. They'll likely need a left felder too, unlikely Cabrera will be back though it is possible. Also quite possible that Bautista will be gone son too, unless they can extend him. The Jays have a new "honour", the longest current stretch in baseball without making the playoffs. Quite an accomplishment. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Quite an accomplishment. Not really if one looks at the facts. The Jays do own it now, but KC had 28 yrs of futility before them. And as bad as it gets, its much better than either of the Padres, Rangers, Rays,Astros, Brewers,Nationals and Mariners, the latter two never even being in the WS. And wanna talk about the Cubs? Quote
Boges Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Sure there are teams that haven't won a WS or haven't won it in longer. But the idea that every one of the other 29 teams including teams that didn't exist when the Jays won the WS have made the playoffs is kind of sad. Edited September 25, 2014 by Boges Quote

Boges Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 Ok, I'll trade the three year defending WS Champs Blue Jays to get the playoff drought...ok? It's not something to trade. Think of being a Pirates fan now. They were playoff losers in the early 90's and had a long drought. But now they've made it in back to back years. I'm kind of jealous of Pirates fan right now. Quote

I can't take a lot of pride in the early 90's Jays much anymore since they haven't had a relevant team since. I don't want to trade the experiences in 1992 and 1993 but I was a kid then. Facts are that the Jays own the title now. I don't think they'll give it up soon. Factoid: the 92/93 Jays World Series Champs were the highest paid team in baseball then... Today, 7 of the 10 teams to make the playoffs in 2014 have lower payrolls than the Jays. Massive fail. Again. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Boges Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Let the carnage begin. They need to focus on retaining some of their good players. It won't be easy. The only player they need to keep that's a FA is Melky. Rasmus and Janssen can pound salt. The question is, can they get another starter and a second baseman (or a third baseman and make Lawrie play second) Doesn't look like AA will lose his job. He was on the radio today. Quote
