CPCFTW Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 this is a breach of public trust is it not? how can he continue to serve us if he lies right to our faces and if it were an ndp / liberal you'd be furious You must be even younger than 16. jacee Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 It's ironic ... we've been through Mulroney and Chretien corruption and vowed never again to turn a blind eye, and that puts Harper's crew under a microscope. And they want to play ... majority ... the west is in ... they're peeing themselves with glee ... But we're not amused. So we're going to hear a lot about how 'everybody else' is a lot worse. I don't agree. Quote
Shwa Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 So we're going to hear a lot about how 'everybody else' is a lot worse. Well I think the correct way of expressing it is by hearing how "everybody else" was a lot worse. And in some cases they are correct. However, lacking the insight to be able to model correct behaviour on what was established as incorrect in the past, they have somehow concluded that a little murder is not as bad as a conviction for murder. WWWTT Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 I'm not gonna change my core values because some mp took a joyride in a helicopter. Sorry to dissappoint you guys, you're not gonna get conservative minded people to vote against their values because of a few minor overblown "scandals". I happen to think the conservatives are the best for this country even with a helicopter joyride, a few phone calls, and a mayor swearing at a dispatch operator. You could be right! These issues are minor. However many people base their judgements on minor things. I don't usually use this tactic but I know for a fact that had this happened to a liberal MP if the liberals were in power the conservatives would have bein completely red faced angry and pissing themeselves at the same time with joy for the opportunity to sick Baird after them. grogy Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 I expect politicians to lie, it more concerns me when they are dumb enough to lie about something this stupid, in writing..what other aspects of their job are they incompetent in? Quote
Topaz Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 (edited) My view is from the time they were left off the hook with the bribery charge of buying a vote from the member who died of cancer, then they took a that opening and ran with it and Canadians have been letting them off the hook and so now look at what kind of government Harper has created with the help of voters. They say all the rights things and then go in the opposition direction to get it done their way and they never admit to any wrong doings. Well, the voters who support them have to either keep supporting this Conservative/reform/alliance/ party or toss them in the next election. Edited December 6, 2011 by Topaz Quote
Wild Bill Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 The more I read this the more I realize this was an elaborate cover up that consisted of many people MacKay has to resign now...or Harper has to replace him (aren't they enemies anyway? why does he even have a place in Harper's government..maybe they are black mailing each other) Oh yeah! It's a crime against the Universe! Hell, we should bring back capital punishment just for McKay! After all, he's a Tory, isn't he? This is just more blatant partisan crap! Military planes and pilots NEED a certain number of hours in the air! You don't just park them on the ground and only bring them out if there's a war. Skills must be kept up and aircraft maintained. So if the flippin' DEFENCE MINISTER wants to use a military craft for ANY reason why shouldn't one be available? As for lying, there's a very simple reason. The "anti-everything just because its Tory" contingent is just so loud and annoying that its easier just to lie and hope they don't wake up and start mouthing off! They're like Jack Russell terriers! Yappy little bastards that will bite you quick as look at you and NEVER shut the frig up! You know, I bet when McKay arrives at any military base he has to check in at some reception desk. By introducing himself and asking where he can see the base commander he would be taking up some soldier's time away from his military duties! This time should be totalled and deducted from McKay's salary as an MP! There! I've given you another idea for a new thread! Its just as good as most of your others! Man, where were you when Chretien was in power? If you are as fair as you seem to claim you would have had a field day tearing ol' Jean apart! Quote "A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul." -- George Bernard Shaw "There is no point in being difficult when, with a little extra effort, you can be completely impossible."

Smallc Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 That somehow makes it ok? No, but it does show that it has nothing to do with who is in government, and everything to do with human nature. Quote
g_bambino Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 No, but it does show that it has nothing to do with who is in government, and everything to do with human nature. Pretty much, yes; though, the nature of politicians, more specifically. Politicians seek power, and they will say and do whatever they are allowed or allow themselves to do to get it. Lying is the easiest, and hence the most common tactic. Then they're held to account (in democracies, anyway) and new politicians elected, and the never-ending dance goes on. Quote

These politicians, regardless of what party they are in, need to be held accountable for their actions. It doesn't help when people respond to criticisms with "So what? That's how it has always been," though. Quote

Only, proportionally holding them to account is also how it's always been; that's the gist of responsible government, which itself is one of the core elements of our constitution. If one party - the voters - just shrug their shoulders and utter "meh" at every politician's lie or deceitful act, then the equation isn't complete and the system fails to function. However, the voters also don't need to go all apoplectic over every little lie a politician makes. Perspective is needed. Quote
