Black Dog Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 Shhh, Other than San Jose, they've beaten each of those West teams. One thing the Leafs have that will help them in the playoffs in the Goaltending. They also have one of the top lines in the league. We'll see, the team is pretty young so getting out of the first round would be considered a success for this season. Especially when many thought that they wouldn't make the playoffs again under this alignment. Problem is their depth. Real contenders get contributions up and down the lineup. The Leafs are riding that Kessel train pretty hard. Quote
guyser Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 Shhh, Other than San Jose, they've beaten each of those West teams. They caught Anaheim on a downslope in play lately. The Leafs showed up in San Jose, until 30 secs after the puck dropped. Last night was good to see. Wanna take bets if Game 2 against Ana was tonight? One thing the Leafs have that will help them in the playoffs in the Goaltending. They also have one of the top lines in the league. We think they have goaltending. The playoffs will tell us how good they are Quote
Black Dog Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 Aren't the playoffs for the East just the race to see who loses to the team that comes out of the West anyway? Quote

Boges Posted March 14, 2014 Author Report Posted March 14, 2014 I don't Leafs fans would turn down losing in the Stanley Cup Finals. Quote
overthere Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 I don't Leafs fans would turn down losing in the Stanley Cup Finals. The relentless optimism of Leafs fans is very endearing. Sort of. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Black Dog Posted March 19, 2014 Report Posted March 19, 2014 Two straight losses for the Leafs, three of the last four. The offense looks to have gone cold. Parade's off guys. Quote
Boges Posted March 19, 2014 Author Report Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) We'll see what happens against Tampa at home. I'd imagine many would have taken 2/5 on that brutal road trip but not when they win 2 of the first 3. Edited March 19, 2014 by Boges Quote
Black Dog Posted March 19, 2014 Report Posted March 19, 2014 Leafs' issues are plain as day. No depth scoring. Riding hot SH% and SV% to wins. Randy Carlyle. This isn't a contender. Quote
Shady Posted March 19, 2014 Report Posted March 19, 2014 Leafs' issues are plain as day. No depth scoring. Riding hot SH% and SV% to wins. Randy Carlyle. This isn't a contender. Complete nonsense. Quote
Mighty AC Posted March 21, 2014 Report Posted March 21, 2014 I guess it depends on what they are contending for. If for one of the last couple of playoff spots? Then Shady is right, they are a contender. If he means they are a cup contender, well then he is just a deluded fan. Sure anything can happen in the playoffs, but it would be a little like saying Liz May is contending for PM. Boges Posted March 24, 2014 Author Report Posted March 24, 2014 I think I broke my ankles jumping off the Leafs Bandwagon. Holy Crap! they suck now. Bernier really was floating this team. Hopefully they can salvage the season, but Bernier has to come back first, Reimer is horawful. What really sucks about that is now Nonis won't be able to get a bag of pucks trading him. At least Toronto has the Raptors, TFC and the hope the Blue Jays could provide to distract them from this mess. Quote

overthere Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 The problem with the Leafs is The Curse Of The Harold. They need an exorcism to rid themselves of his evil spirit. Not only did he curse the team for half a century and counting, he managed to get nearly the entire country outside the GTA hating them profoundly. Of course, Harold had plenty of help in that undertaking from CBC, TSN, SportsNet etc. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted March 25, 2014 Author Report Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) The Leafs have a lot of haters, but a lot more lovers. They are kindred spirits with the Chicago Cubs and teams that have been cursed on the playing field/ice, yet proven to be wildly profitable and popular. Edited March 25, 2014 by Boges Quote
overthere Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 I don't think you'd want to put the hater vs lover thing to the count. I've been to both Cubs and Leafs games, and the atmosphere is far more fun at Wrigley. There is a queasy sort of self loathing thing with the Leafs crew. Didn't pick up that with the Cubs, it's a party in the stands until the 7th inning or so when everybody settles down to some serious drinking and watching the game. And the party is all over the streets in the fun neighbourhood all around Wrigley. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Go to Buffalo for a Leafs v Sabres game and you'll see Leaf fans. During the trip to LA the Leaf fans dominated the crowd. The Leafs have a great following across the league. Quote
overthere Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 The Leafs have a contingent at Oilers games because there are so many economic refugees from Ontario here. There are a lot of people from Ontario no longer living in Ontario. It's nothing to do with any innate national love for the Leafs, more of a sad commentary on economic reality in Ontario. Oh, and tickets for the Cubs are expensive and hard to get. Is it cheaper to fly to LA to watch a Leafs game than to buy a ticket at the ACC? Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted March 25, 2014 Author Report Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Ontario has a large Dispora? I'm sure it does. According to this site Cubs tickets go from $340 down to $19. Looks like there are quality seats for under $100 everywhere. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/ticketing/seating.jsp Lower Bowl seats at the ACC for Leaf games are usually north of $200. guyser Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 . It's nothing to do with any innate national love for the Leafs, more of a sad commentary on economic reality in Ontario. So there are Leaf fans everywhere due to the economy? Uh....not likely, as in no chance really. IF not, explain the large Leaf contingent at Canucks games, Ottawa games and Mtl games....or pretty much anywhere the Leafs play. Quote
Black Dog Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 I'd love to know why there are so many Leafs fans in other cities. Sooner we find a cause, the sooner we can work on a cure. Quote
guyser Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 I'd love to know why there are so many Leafs fans in other cities. Sooner we find a cause, the sooner we can work on a cure. Lots of reasons , some that dont make sense . Many remember the original six, or barring that pre-Oilers/Flames/Sens/Wild/and so on. They have stuck with that mindset. There moms and dads were Leaf fans. For some inexplicable reason they think its cool? (not so sure about that one tho) They love to back a winner**, and they most certainly are , second in Cups baby ! (**winners at the box office and in making money) Quote
