Should the Western Democracies be Paying for this Garbage (the U.N.)

Recommended Posts

The United Nations was formed by Allied leaders towards the end of World War II to prevent a recurrence of the misery that war brought, and to ameliorate the effect of tyranny on the world's future. The Declaration of Human Rights is eloquent and forward looking. It was established with the best of intentions. Should we, as Western, freedom-loving democracies be paying for the garbage spewing from its precincts (link, excerpts below):

Dear Colleagues and friends;

Wouldn't you think that the root cause of the problems must be sought in the prevailing international order, or the way the world is governed? I would like to draw your kind attention to the following questions:

Who abducted forcefully tens of millions of people from their homes in Africa and other regions of the world during the dark period of slavery, making them a victim of their materialistic greed.

Who imposed colonialism for over four centuries upon this world. Who occupied lands and massively plundered resources of other nations, destroyed talents, and alienated languages, cultures and identities of nations?

Who triggered the first and second world wars, that left seventy millions killed and hundreds of millions injured or homeless. Who created the wars in Korean peninsula and in Vietnam?

Who imposed, through deceits and hypocrisy, the Zionism and over sixty years of war, homelessness, terror and mass murder on the Palestinian people and on countries of the region?

Who imposed and supported for decades military dictatorship and totalitarian regimes on Asian, African, and Latin American nations.

Who used nuclear bomb against defenseless people, and stockpiled thousands of warheads in their arsenals?

Whose economies rely on waging wars and selling arms?

Who provoked and encouraged Saddam Hussein to invade and impose an eight-year war on Iran, and who assisted and equipped him to deploy chemical weapons against our cities and our people.

Who used the mysterious September 11 incident as a pretext to attack Afghanistan and Iraq , killing, injuring, and displacing millions in two countries with the ultimate goal of bringing into its domination the Middle East and its oil resources?

I don't think the UN can be faulted for what Iran chooses to say.

What part of it do you disagree with?

The part that gives Iran an equal vote with the U.S. Let's start with that.

And how much of the U.N.'s budget does Iran contribute?

Ah I see your trouble.

just a quick glance the entire list is maybe over embellished in places but pretty much accurate...

What he said.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Yup.

Trust Iran not to gussy up the truth with platitudes about 'freedom' and 'democracy'.

If more North Americans understood the truth about camouflaged US aggression, they'd understand the world's reaction.

Iran has an equal vote to the US?? maybe you shouldn't start with that... the US has a veto so it's one vote equals all the other 192 member states combined, whereas Iran only has one vote...
And how much of the U.N.'s budget does Iran contribute?
UN data for membership dues show Iran has paid what it has been assessed... Edited by wyly

It's the theatre of the absurd, where all the inferior third-world trash, socialist/communist cesspools, Islamist and theocratic dictatorships, coalesce and attack the West on America's dime. Broken, pathetic, and inferior societies getting on their fancy soapboxes and condemning America, the West, Israel and everything else they are jealous of. It's pathetic, but not as pathetic as America and friends continually paying for it...

I really resent paying for the U.N.'s useless and counterproductive activities.

I also resent being induced to donate when the funds don't reach the starving people. I even more resent being forced to donate through the tax system, where Congress appropriates money to "aid" foreign countries, and the money goes instead for arms that fuels regional conflicts and fills leaders' Swiss bank accounts.

Despite all the money going to the UN to pay for insane salaries for third-world trash in Italian suits, the UN has the nerve to run ads soliciting donations to help "the children in Somalia". Excuse me, what the HELL did you do with all the billions you already got and continued to get?!

Someone should check the balances of Swiss bank accounts.

Guys,

Stop the personal attacks and the foul language.

Why the plural "guys"? There was just one person in this thread who engaged in personal attacks & foul language. Not the first time that poster has engaged in such lowly methods of discourse, either.

Seconded, the potty mouth always comes to the fore when things are not going his way.

Thirded. It is not the fault of the better posters when one doesn't know how to project ideas. Some people think that cursing shows they feel strongly on the issue.

Yes Bob, we know you are prejudiced against all "Arabs/Muslims" and take any opportunity to display it.

Now tell me exactly what is it in Iran's message you disagree with and why?

Anybody?

Anybody find anything in there that is untrue?

Jbg?

No one cuised into Africa and "abducted" anyone - The slaves were sold by their own people - the so-called royal tribesmen cut deals for black beauty (gun powerder) - weapons and other things that would generate more power for the upper black classes - Blacks sold out blacks - Just the same way as white sell out whites to China ...same game just another added dimention.

But why the "freedom"/"Human Rights" lover westerners include President Washington did not free those poor sold slaves but just buy them and keep them as slaves?

Mostly because it's not worth responding to. It's a big pile of BS with an occasional twisted grain of truth to confuse people. It conflates Americans and Europeans, associates events that America had nothing to do with with America, blames current nations for things that happened hundreds of years ago, and references 911 conspiracy theories.

The silence isn't deafening, it's approving. A few posters have challenged the OP, this is a discussion board after all, so how about you take up the challenge?

If it is a big pile of BS, then it should be easy enough to refute, except maybe for those "twisted" grains of truth. You have to watch those of course, because they might come back and provide the thin edge of the wedge.

However, that really isn't the point. The point is the impression that America has in some parts of the world and the moral equivalency that goes along with it. That is a more interesting discussion because, even if the concepts are somewhat inflated, to refute them, one has to face and acknowledge those little grains of truth. And even that might be worthy for some people to become aware of.
