If you're going to criticize someone, the least you can do is spell her name right.

Nycole Turmel is such a joke. I swear Jack Layton made her leader to make himself look better.

happy?

Stupid french spellings.

Very sad news. In a cruel twist of fate, Layton finally saw success this year in a career full of frustrations, but couldn't enjoy what he had achieved.

RIP.

Feeling the same too.

Actually, that never happened. Canadians were never forces to serve overseas. The Canadian Forces fighting in Afghanistan and Libya, and doing peacekeeping and humanitarian work around the world are not in any way less heroic. The idea that you would volunteer for such things, as has always been the tradition of the military in this country - that's heroic.

Well in both world wars conscription was implemented very late, and very few people were ever sent out to the battlefields

Though there WERE deaths of men who were conscripted in both wars

Never liked his politics, but still shocked to hear he went so soon..........that last news conference was telling......

With Layton's death, does this mean a rebirth of the Liberal party sooner than expected?

That's what scares the hell outta me. Layton's death leaves huge shoes to fill for the NDP. It like the Liberals are basically leaderless. Although the Harper government will benefit from Layton's absence - not a good situation, even though I'm a CPC supporter - the Liberals benefit by far the most and are probably slavering and wringing their hands in glee

I will repeat, Canadians were never forced to go over seas, only to serve.

That's not what the history of Canadian riots, plebiscites, and policy changes late in WW2 says, wherein about 2500 conscripts were sent to overseas front lines, and I don't mean the Aleutian Islands.

I bet Bob Rae is crying in his beer, or salivating with thoughts of uniting the left and becoming their god-father. Remember his rational for leaving the NDP and becoming a born again Liberal. "Oh, I have matured and finally seen the light", (sure). He saw the switch as the only way to advance his ambitious agenda at that time, but now, he finds himself leading a dysfunctional third party with no way to fulfill his ambitions. On the other hand,I can see him embracing illusions of grandeur as the king of the unite the left cause. Time will tell.

Whoever finally replaces Jack as the PM -in-waiting, must have impeccable credentials as a federalist, otherwise the party is doomed to opposition status until they find someone who has them. Any party with pretensions to govern must have a functionally bilingual leader, someone at ease in either language. It would help their case if the next chosen leader comes from Ontario or Quebec close to the NDP’s centre of mass.

Which lets out Olivia Chow as I'm pretty sure she doesn't speak French.

Stupid Frech spellings? Really?

I know many Canadians don't have much of a sense of humour. But I was trying to add some levity to my obvious error.

Sheesh!

Sorry, internet humour doesn't always come across...especially given some of the comments that have been made on this site in the past.

A true Son of Canada. His lineage really is important to Canada. His Great Grandfather was a Father of Confederation.

My thoughts to his family and may his political legend continue.

A 16 year old socialist.. Why am I not surprised? Jack certainly managed to warp the minds of many impressionable Canadian kids. RIP.

worse yet a 16 yr old socialist who prays....to what ?...for what? Wake up and enjoy the real world. It's not to late to escape the clutches of dogmatic religion....you have a brain...use it.

Jack was a master barnum bailey commie who could lie while smiling ....the massage dabacle...the hernia fix...and on and on

There's no harm in it. I say let people do what they like, if it helps to propel them to their own greatness. Whatever that may be.
