Keepitsimple Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Bob Rae will not run for the leadership of the liberals, but will go for the interm. If the Liberal Party can change the rules on the fly to delay a leadership contest, what makes you think they won't change the rules in a couple of years. They've still got Alfie Apps running the show for the Party. But you could also look at it another way. What if Rae does such a good job that everybody really WANTS him to be the leader. Do you really think they won't find a way to make it work? I'm not saying he would make a good long-term leader.....I'm just saying that "rules" never seem to get in the Liberals' quest for power. Michael Hardner Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 It's a shame to me, but I think he did the right thing. There is no well-known Liberal that can step in and capture the flag, but I hope they find someone with new ideas. I'm excited for them. Except, I think they changed the rules as a move to keep him out of leadership. The rules changed, and Chretien stepped in immediately and said "Rae should be interim leader". Tilter Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 (edited) Had to clarify that one. When it said "GOOD NEWS" I thot you were going to reveal a Rae retirement from "public service" altho what he did in Ontario could hardly be called a service to the public  Edited May 19, 2011 by Tilter Quote
Topaz Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 I hope that this was HArper's last time in the PMO!! 60% are disappointed. Quote

Moonlight Graham Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Bob Rae will not run for the leadership of the liberals, but will go for the interm. Such bullcrap from him. He doesn't want to run for the leadership...but wants to be the leader right now. Ya right that makes sense. And he says he'll only do with a long term if it's at least 1.5 - 2 years says CBC: Rae announced his intention to run for interim leader on Thursday, but said in a letter to Liberal MPs, senators and staff that he'll only do it if the job is for 18 to 24 months. Gimme a break. I think he wants to prove he's a good leader and then gain better support for a permanent leader. Topaz Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 You know Harper's first personal attacks would be Rae and his time as Premier, he has already done it and he'll keep doing it. Quote

Moonbox Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 You know Harper's first personal attacks would be Rae and his time as Premier, he has already done it and he'll keep doing it. You mean wear Bob Rae ran Ontario's biggest deficit ever and left the NDP in Ontario a smoky ruin? Harper should be thanking Bob Rae for his majority. It was Ontario's fear of Bob Rae style NDP that had people abandoning the Liberals and flocking to the CPC in the GTA. munsinger Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Bob may be simply biding his time......until a new executive changes the rules....enabling ole Bob to enjoy all of the built-in advantages of the interim leadership, in order to crush the other candidates. A couple Liberal MP's are already making noise about not trusting Rae, in this matter..... Quote
fellowtraveller Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 I wholeheartedly and without reservation support Bob Rae as interim and permanent leader. The Liberals might get to single digit MP counts with him at the helm. Jacques Layton is going to find a whole pile of difficult constituents in Quebec, and the combo may just hand Harper or whomever runs the Tories in 2015 a massive majority. Go Bob!
