Triple M Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 With the defeat of multiple Cabinet ministers to go along with a number of ministers who decided not to run the Harper Cabinet has been weakened. That leaves a lot of big holes for the Prime minister to fill with least experienced players. So who has any cabinet projections and do any of the newly elected members get in a junior position???? Scotty Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Some are saying that Jason Kenney will possibly be the next Foreign Affairs Minister. I'm thinking and hoping that Peter Penashue will be Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs. Unfortunately, selecting a cabinet is not merely a case of picking the smartest, most capable individuals. It's political, and you have to take people from across the country. Just about anyone elected in Quebec will wind up in cabinet, which is unfortunate, because with the loss of what, three Quebec cabinet ministers, one assumes the talent is pretty shallow in what was left. The Tory that got elected in NF will be in cabinet, and they'll have to take one or two from PEI and NB. Doesn't matter if any of them have brains or not. They had a number of bright people elected in and around Toronto, including a former ambassador (foreign minister?) and a surgeon (health minister, or maybe health care reform minister?), as well as an investment banker. Caught this in the Star, mentioning possibles among newcomers there. Toronto Minsters among newcomers Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy
Posc Student Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Peter Penashue is the Newfoundland and Labrador MP, he's the first Innu from Labrador to ever be elected to the House of Commons and is also the first Conservative to be elected in Labrador since the 60's. Quote

Ah, then he's a shoe-in for cabinet. Mind you, he would be regardless of race. Indian Affairs minister, maybe? RNG Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Ah, then he's a shoe-in for cabinet. Mind you, he would be regardless of race. Indian Affairs minister, maybe? Again, a serious question. We think of the Inuit and Native Canadians as being the same. But working with some Native Canadians in northern Alberta Showed me the animosity between the Metis and the treaty types. I was surprised. And there is a lot of mis-trust between Japanese, Chinese and Korean. Is there any significant Inuit - Native Canadians mis-trust? Smallc Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I'm hoping that Harper will shrink the Cabinet. We don't need nearly so many Ministers of State. Quote
Posc Student Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Ah, then he's a shoe-in for cabinet. Mind you, he would be regardless of race. Indian Affairs minister, maybe? That's what I figure. He has a great background. He is from the Innu community of Sheshatshiu, which has had some serious problems over the years with addictions and such, and unlike many from there he went onto finish school and attend university. He was President of the Innu Nation, has served two terms as Grand Chief and was Deputy Grand Chief. He also played a significant role in a recent land claims agreement that will help the Lower Churchill project proceed. http://www.conservative.ca/team/meet_our_candidates/?linkTo=true&districtId=1239 Quote

Scotty Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I'm hoping that Harper will shrink the Cabinet. We don't need nearly so many Ministers of State. The ministers of state serve dual purposes. First, they give something to do to energetic people who might otherwise go off on tangents and do something stupid. Second, it lets them study these 'junior ministers' in action to see if they have an capability to rise higher.
