RNG Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 Is this the first step in trying again to not have taxpayers fund political parties? I hope so. Quote The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.
Smallc Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 This is simply an adjustment to account for inflation. If we want to end taxpayer support for political parties, lets start with tax credits. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 Is there a definitive source that summarizes the Election Finance rules changes we've had over the past 5 years or so ? My impression is that there has been a lot of change but I didn't see a good Wiki page that described it. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
Oleg Bach Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 Funny how governments can use YOUR money to brainwash YOU...Much like the tax funded courts use YOUR money to screw YOU - and hand it over to a bunch of dweebs in black robes who drive a Mercedes. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) I don't support finance controls on elections (but I do support parties following electoral rules) Really? You want your politicians controlled by the interests of corporations and rich, powerful lobby/interest groups? You want our system to turn into the money-controlled crapfest that is the American political finance system? You want our system to turn into the money-controlled crapfest that is the American political finance system? It isn't just corporations. Unions fill the NDP's coffers all the time. It annoyed me when I was a union member that part of my dues went to a party I have never, and will never, vote for. Quote I have captured the rare duct taped platypus.

Is it a coincidence that Barack Obama, for example, bailed out the UAW members and their pensions after they ran the companies they worked for into bankruptcy? Could it have had anything to do with the fact that Obama's biggest campaign contributor was *gasp* the UAW? Election contribution limits help keep politicians honest. William Ashley Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) This is simply an adjustment to account for inflation. If we want to end taxpayer support for political parties, lets start with tax credits. BOOOO. Political Parties should be made to be run as for profit corporations totally cut off from the public purse, (but unbridled from "people buying their services and products") Although I don't support corporate or personal income taxes as an end result so all business would be tax free (except for fees for certain types of production and extraction (resource royalties), and import of certain goods related to production and waste taxes. There should be no consumption or exchange taxes, and services should not be taxed and definately no PROFIT tax. Revaluation by supply and property laws should create a mechanism that insures basic necessities and sharing in society at a mutually beneficial level. If everyone has their basic needs provided by social protections and there are public assets that allow sharing of wealth all other luxury is excess and there is no moral problem with privatization of excess luxuries after people are provided for.
