LOL at everyone jumping on the NDP's bandwagon. Bailed on JT fast eh?

I stopped liking him about a year ago but I was still prepared to vote Liberal strategically if needed. However, after their support of C-51 there is not way I could vote Liberal.

Laugh all you want, C-51 was a huge deal to many people.

I think this still assumes an affinity between the LPC and NDP that I'm not sure is there. The LPC has historically been happy to have the NDP support them in minority situations but I'm not sure if they would be as eager to be the 'junior partner' to an NDP minority (and they've generally been clear that they would not form a coalition with the NDP). I don't think they would be so opposed to the NDP as to bring them down right away but I think they might more or less behave the same way they did under the CPC minorities from 2006-2011. Unless what you're saying is that the CPC didn't get anything done in that period; I'm not sure I agree with that.

CPC did get some things done 06-11, but they had to make sure it was palatable to the other parties. After their majority they went a lot more the direction they would've wanted ideally.

On the other hand, there is enough common ground between LPC and NDP to get things done without really needing to pander to the other parties. For example, regarding the environment, crime, and foreign policy there are subtle differences, but they're not polar opposites the way the CPC differs from the other two parties.

That's where I said I think the CPC needs a majority but the other two could do with just a minority situation.

You raise a good point though about the LPC being less receptive as an opposition party. That's something that remains to be seen if it comes down to it.

After for a merger, I used to think that it would be a good thing for the left but not anymore. For a long time it seemed like we only had two attainable choices and but now the NDP is coming into its own, we finally have a real choice. It's the way things should be in parliamentary system.

How times change.

Above is post #1 from page #1 in this Federal Election Poll thread. What has changed?

Conservatives down 14 points, NDP up 16, Liberals up 3, BQ down 4 and Greens about even.

Too early to warm up the paper shredders?

When the people have no tyrant, their public opinion becomes one.

They don't need to. Harper should keep running the ads as a neat little 30 second monuments to his idiocy.

Exactly!

If the conservatives want to hang themselves, then give them all the rope they like.

I suspect he will keep running the ads, and at least part of the strategy behind that is they reckon it will simply turn off a lot of voters, who will just not bother voting, and that works in their favor.

Wrong!

It will remind a lot of voters why they should vote AGAINST the conservatives.

You don't get the idea of the political spectrum do you? The NDP aren't swaying likely Harper voters. They've got to attack the Liberals for support. For example seats in Downtown Toronto the only way the NDP are going to win there is to go after the Liberals. Harper doesn't play into the equation. Then in the burbs it's pretty much Liberals vs CPC in every riding. So Mulclair will be doing Harper a favour by going after JT.

Fantasy land theory.

See last Alberta election for details.

You're going to have to cite a study or something that Previous Harper voters are going to vote for Mulclair. I'm just not going to let that one stand.

Ya and I'm going to let your denial of the Alberta election stand!

Has the debate been cancelled?

Yes Harper said he would not participate in the major televised ones.

As it stands now.

Do you think the NDP is also going to take Alberta in Federal ridings? Do the polls suggest that? The Liberal party is feckless in Alberta, the Dippers were the only alternative it would appear.

Yes the polls that I looked at pointed in the direction of the NDP taking possibly half a dozen seats is Alberta federally!

If you think that this election is going to be a cake walk for the conservatives, you're in for a lot of heartache my friend.

Oh I don't, but I think the NDP will be a lot easier to handle in a campaign than the Liberals. Especially in Ontario.

It seems everyone has jumped off the JT Bandwagon. Now the attention gets focused on Mulclair and his platform. Let's see what happens.

And predictions at this point are still laughable. I think it's cute how people were predicting JT 100% be the next PM.

Yes I agree.

Keep in mind we are getting closer every day to this election.

Lot's of stuff posted of what the NDP is doing to grab this one, not much from the other two parties.

Shachi Kurl (senior VP at Angus Reid), said in an interview yesterday, that never has there been such a high percentage of soft or undecided voters leading up to a federal election in Canada. That's usually bad news for the incumbents.

It's often bad for the incumbents - until voters have to really take stock of the alternatives and get into the voting booth.......look no farther than the Wynne Liberals, arguably the most incompetent, corrupt government in Canadian history. They make the Harper government look like Choir Boys and economic wizards.

That's it? And why is the add only online? I suppose the NDP can't afford TV adds.......As they say about those in glass houses.....the retort will arrive when it counts....

have the authorities been engaged... and which competent one(s)? When do you anticipate your "silver-bullet" retort?

At the behest of both the Liberals and Tories (and I think even the Green) both maters have been (and are) being investigated...........I would guess the timely investigation to conclude and offer its findings in the next couple of months ;)

When will the NDP pay for those stamps, eh? I'm sure that secret board made up of their political adversaries reached a sound legal decision. On the other hand, the NDP's ad outlines all the ways Harper failed to uphold his promise of cleaning up corruption in Ottawa with examples of real convictions and charges against the party and its politicians and membership.

Haven't seen it on TV.

So?

Do you get the majority of your political information online or on TV?

I know if I wasn't a politically engaged soft voter I certainly wouldn't be seeking out political advertising online.

Those JT attack ads have been on the airwaves for awhile now. Look at his poll numbers.

I'm curious to see what the CPC campaign machine has for Mulclair.
