It was catharsis on film. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

wyly Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 latest news...spent cooling rods in reactor 4 are suspected of being fully exposed as radiation levels rated as extremely high, if reports are true anyone coming within 50 meters of reactor 4 is in a death zone...helicopters dosing the reactors with water pulled out as radiation levels were to high...added complexity that death zone overlaps reactor 3 which is fueled by weapons grade fuel... this has escalated well past three mile island (4) to a 5 or 6 on the nuclear disaster scale, chernobyl was a 7... eyeball Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Is it out of control or under control, are technicians in white hard-hats and lab-coats walking around serenely with their clipboards or running back and forth in a panic-stricken bucket-brigade? eyeball Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 I'm just trying to get my head around this idea of storing old spent fuel rods beside active reactors. I'm trying to imagine my insurance company's reaction if I proposed to store all the creosote I've cleaned out of my chimney beside the wood stove. jbg Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 We see now it's been downplayed from the start, that much is obvious. I know the media does not want to have everyone panic, but at least give the people the right information without sensationalizing it. Informed people can make better decisions as to what to for plan next. What about this (link in title, excerpts below)? A Glowing Report on Radiation by Ann Coulter With the terrible earthquake and resulting tsunami that have devastated Japan, the only good news is that anyone exposed to excess radiation from the nuclear power plants is now probably much less likely to get cancer. This only seems counterintuitive because of media hysteria for the past 20 years trying to convince Americans that radiation at any dose is bad. There is, however, burgeoning evidence that excess radiation operates as a sort of cancer vaccine. As The New York Times science section reported in 2001, an increasing number of scientists believe that at some level -- much higher than the minimums set by the U.S. government -- radiation is good for you. "They theorize," the Times said, that "these doses protect against cancer by activating cells' natural defense mechanisms." Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

Post To The Left Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 nowhere did I claim the two situations are the same I was quite clear to anyone with basic reading comprehension that regardless of the different squence of events leading up to a nuclear mishap with an uncontroled release of radiation the end result is the same... You've been trying to exaggerate since day 1 and have been trying to link the Japanese reactors to Chernobyl: "one nuclear expert said today that in a worst case scenario it could end up Chernobyl times 3, only minus the chimney effect of fires to spread the contamination long distances..." "Chernobyl ... had a steam explosion the following meltdown created fires which spread the contamination...fire in the area of spent fuel rods in Japan threatens the same situation...the cause of the meltdown maybe different but the results will be the same..." "well now it may be potentially six times worse than chernobyl, only one reator melted down in Chernobyl there are six in various stages of meltdown or impending meltdown in Japan..." "different causes the results end up the same...[chernobyl like the Japan reactors] meltdown, fire, contamination..." you claimed fission is relevant ot his situation...wrong again Fission is very relevant to this situation as you attempt to keep comparing chernobyl to the Japan reactors. Chernobyl was an out of control nuclear reaction that caused intense radiation. When the explosion happened the highly radiated contents of the Chernobyl reactors were spread by HUGE fires that burned for weeks. you claimed a dirty bomb needs a explosion...very wrong, again... ... Here is the definition of a Dirty Bomb: "a bomb made from nuclear waste combined with conventional explosives that is capable of spreading radioactive material over a very wide area" It's called a dirty BOMB of course it needs an explosion. When you say dirty bomb it implies that you mean explosion. "Yesterday the waste pond at reactor 4 was causing much of the concern. At one point it had heated up to 83 °C, and experienced two fires. The fear is that water levels in the pond will fall so far that the spent fuel rods will become exposed, releasing a significant amount of radioactive material." Water's boiling point is 100 °C the water isn't even boiling. Yesterday small flames were seen for about 30 min before they were put out. Yesterday the smoke stopped and the live shots today don't show any smoke at all. There is some white steam (Remember its cold at the plants so steam will show white) which shows that water is still present in the reactors. Quote

We had people on this forum who said the same thing about Katrina and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill...complete with jokes...and they were all wrong. I case you forgot I'm not those people... - Japanese Emperor Akihito delivered an unprecedented televised address to his disaster-stricken nation Wednesday, saying he was “deeply worried” by the catastrophes plaguing Japan. It is a sign of extraordinary danger. His father, Emperor Hirohito, known posthumously as Emperor Showa, never spoke in public until he was stripped of political power and forced to renounce his divine status after Japan’s defeat in World War Two. Now the world’s oldest continuous hereditary monarchy and world’s only remaining Emperor has been enlisted to lift people’s spirits in the face of a daunting disaster. Sombre and stoic, dressed in a dark suit, the 77-year-old emperor expressed his concern for survivors of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami and thanked rescue teams that have been trying to help them. - http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011/03/16/peter-goodspeed-emperors-appearance-signals-magnitude-of-japan-disaster/ Quote There are none so blind, deaf and dumb as those that fail to recognize, understand, and promote TRUTH...- GWiz
