A lot. I just read their have been 3 ballistic launches out of Vandenburg since June, not counting space launches, can't remember the source.

When you have thousands of military aircraft, they need to practice, lots of AFB's around their, especially edwards.

Rule of thumb for standard temperatures in upper troposphere where most commercial jets fly. Double the altitude in thousands times two, minus 15 equals standard temperature. Eg: Aircraft at FL350. 35x2=70-15= -55 degrees C. This only applies up to the tropopause where temperatures stabilize then start to rise again in the stratosphere.

Ok, Sounds like the NOTAM can be plausibly ignored as a coincidence and entire event can be explained as an optical illusion created by the contrail of a commerical aircraft. Edited November 12, 2010 by TimG

Any of you in the Ottawa area, go outside and look up. You are going to see a crap load of contrails in the sky. Observe for some time and see what happens.

Actually, no matter where you are, go check your sky and see if this is happening where you are. Today, is about the same temps as the past couple days, which were clear and sunny. Today is different it seems.

Well, I've been watching the sky most of the day today, and it is getting cloudy. This morning it was pretty clear except to the South East, and now a good chunk of the sky is filled with these persistent contrails.

Go outside and look up. All the clouds in the sky over Ottawa today are artificial in nature.
