Guess we didn't bribe them enough.

U.N.'s loss, Canada's gain.

whaaa! Conservatives pulled out all the stops... offering maple syrup, flying down a real for goodness Mountie in "Red Serge" dress uniform for member photo-ops... and... offering Canadian beer. Oh mama! That was it... expecting all those 'Euro types' to drink swill!

All we lost was seat on the old boys club that is now being run by dictators and thugs.

United States

France

UK

Russia

China

Austria

Bosnia

Brazil

Gabon

Japan

Lebanon

Mexico

Nigeria

Turkey

Uganda

5 of which to be replaced with India, South Africa, Germany, Columbia and Portugal

My question is, where are the dictatorships? Are a couple non-democracies? Sure, but where are the dictators?

only non democracy I can see is China and even that's subjective as it has elections as well, one party but with factions within the party not all that different than the US with two parties...

Russia and Gabon as well, but the use of the term dictator implies that these governments are runnin around chopping people's heads off which isn't true.

We gained nothing and lost a great deal. It is time to consider our international position from a domestic standpoint. Make our relations a matter of public debate during an election campaign. Put the cards on the table.

With what aim? Adjusting our foreign policy to please foreigners? If Frum is correct, and his piece is quite cogently put, our foreign policy had absolutely nothing to do with our not being selected.

Anyone who thinks calling China a dicatorship is 'subjective' because of supposed elections is laughably ignorant about everything even remotely related to China or democracy or human rights.

And you know this because of your extensive investigation of their human rights records?

Yep.

Putin has slaughtered more of his people people than any other modern day dictator outside of North Korea.

russia has 4 politcal parties in it's Duma and use a PR system so they're technically more democratic than us, they may have some corruption issues but so do we...

I checked Gabon and it's a one party state but i don't know that works for them...

And what's the life expectancy of anti-Putin (cause Medvedev is a puppet) reporters and editors?

The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.
