Either he is a troll, lictor disguised as a troll, or 14.

We've been had by Lictor again...

Last week he posed as a bloodthirsty Muslim...Now he's posing as a pinheaded leftist suck.

Give him some credit because he knows how to play a role...

I agree with that philosophy however there always has been and always will be exceptions to it. If certain kinds of speech are causing a lot of problems the government doesnt have much choice but to limit them. Its easy to have a high minded principle with regards to free speech but when youre actually charged with keeping a society of free speakers functioning smoothly things arent that black and white.

Our laws as they stand are enough to deal most of the time between the mutterers and the bona fide dangerous...

The difference is between those who say "blacks are _______" and those who call to "Kill Blacks"

RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS

The problem is if I put up a big billboard saying "Blacks are subhuman pieces of shit", its probably going to result in violence, property damage, riots, and so on. So by excersizing my right to free speech in that way Im going to damage other people and other tax payers. So if youre "the government" tasked with maintaining an orderly stable society and economy and you find certain kinds of hate speech are causing a lot of problems then its quite possible youre going to have look at putting limititations on that kind of speech. In that case my "free speech" ammounted to yelling "FIRE" in a crowded movie theatre.

These kinds of issues are why free speach isnt and has never been a panacea. Theres a difference in principle and practical application, which is why running a society based on moral absolutes doesnt work.

exactly, free speech when used for hate, isnt protected.. it cant be in a tolerent country, it doesnt have to be directly threatening , the fact that its racist automatically is threatening

I doubt this is Lictor. I doubt Lictor posts as anyone other than Lictor. I'll say this for him, he's never had a problem putting forth who he is or what his beliefs are. I don't think he'd hide behind clones/aliases.

I don't know...

He's been banned twice for putting those beliefs out there.Mysteriously last week we had a radical Islamofascist posting, conveniently from Haifa,Israel.Once confronted about possibly being Lictor,no sign of him.

This week we have the exact opposite in Mr/Mrs. Ratio, who thinks everything is racist..

It all a little too convenient.

Lictor has been on 'leaves of absence,' ie: banned, before. No doubt about it. But he always comes back, as himself. So I don't think that poster from Israel was him, either, but didn't say anything about it at the time. Thing is, when a poster is banned, they are unable to post to defend themselves against accusations such as this, which puts Lictor at a disadvantage. If there's no sign of posters like the "Israeli," perhaps it's because they have been banned or have had their fun and moved on to agitate other posters on other boards.

I just don't think this is Lictor. I think it's someone having fun, but I don't think it's him. I honestly think he takes his beliefs too seriously to make a game out of it.

That's my take on it, anyway, for what it's worth. Just thought I'd throw it out there since this is the second time in a short time span that Lictor's been accused of 'trolling.'

I'm glad that we both oppose some of the European laws that throw people in prison for questioning the holocaust.

No we don't.

[F]reedom of speech is HATESPEECH if it offends...

Yet,

that's so ignorant... seriously wake up...
I figure your a racist judging by your name...

there you go going grammar nazi on me... and defending hatespeech ... it figures,

more then having to converse with a nazi sympathizer like you?

Seems Ratio's quite the little hatemonger. Off to jail with him!

nazi germany tolerated hate speech, see what happened?

Ratio, they didn't "tolerate" it. That's the wrong word.

And it's not anyway as if hate speech led to...well, you know.

That's simply not what happened.

Further, "hate speech" is extremely nebulous. We have seen this issue come front and centre in Canada, with a couple of pseudo-intellectual demagogues treated in a way that I think manifestly unreasonable, and manifestly unfair.

I prefer the US approach to these matters.

How many people are even aware that the Canadian magazine isn't the only North American publication to publish the cartoons?

The left-wing American magazine, Harpers, also published them. As was their right.

Well, that's the thing. Actually, Holocaust denial is a good litmus test, since it's both a sensitive subject and is strongly historically-grounded.

There should not be an officially-sanctioned State history in which deviation from the narrative gets one in trouble.

again who/what is lictor?

could someone please tell me?

They suspect YOU of being lictor, (a poster who is thought to have put up fake personas here before) because your posts seem to be so typical of a certain mindset that they don't believe you're a real person.

Sorry to say.

Even as a Jew and a Zionist I am diametrically opposed to such laws.

I think there's a huge difference between Holocaust denial, which basically to my mind is making yourself an idiot in public, and taking overt action to discriminate against, hurt or kill a person because of race or religion. One must be allowed, the other, obviously, strictly forbidden. Edited by jbg

Holocaust denial is more than being an idiot...That's the first response...

Then delve into who are these deniers and what are their motivations...

Hmmm???...

I think it's the "Zieg Heil,Mein Fuehrer!!!" crowd...

Certainly. I'm talking about plain old denial, not going somewhere with it actively and for the sake of direct harm.

absolutely,

denying the holocaust is worst then criminal, and prison should be the place for people who harbour such disgusting and dumb views.

Personally I think we should have these nutters put in concentration camps, why not, that's what they would propose for Jews after all.

well they can check my IP address for all I care, I don<t know anything about that poster. what leads them to believe that its me? Does he also oppose hatred and discrimination, xenophobia, homophobia and gets insulted for doing so?

I care what people do, not what motivates them. For sure, I'll watch the "Zieg Heil,Mein Fuehrer crowd" more than your average Joe, but I really don't care what they say.
