GostHacked Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Nope...I'm old enough to know it is really called "Dominion Day"...zing! Also old enough for some common ailments that afflict your age group. It's not Dominion Day anymore. Quote
Guest American Woman Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Please do not project what Lictard has to say as any indication of what "Canadians" may or may not want. The dudette is a dewche. (BTW, the spelling of 'dewche' is taken from the Oxford New Dictionary of Medicine Hat Street Cred Jargon) The "dudette" is a dude. Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Metro Day. Metro Richelieu bought Dominions, it no longer exists. Important Dominion Day fact: From the 1960s into the 1980s, Dominion Day was the date the Miss Dominion of Canada beauty pageant, held at Niagara Falls, Ontario, to select the Canadian representative for the major international beauty pageants (Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, and Queen of the Pacific). Shady Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 Canada Day is a lame name for a holiday. I wish we could come up with something more significant. Quote

Smallc Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 Canada Day is a lame name for a holiday. I wish we could come up with something more significant. Why is it a lame name? It is the day that Canada became a country. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the name. Quote

Because he's a sell out who is far more interested in being like our neighbour to the South... Why do you think he glorifies American conservativism so much??? Why does he spend so much time on a Canadian political message board blathering on about the virtues of American conservative politcs??? Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!

kimmy Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 Canada Day is a lame name for a holiday. I wish we could come up with something more significant. It seems like an appropriate name to me. It's also a hell of a lot better than what we'd get if we renamed it right now... Shady Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 Come'on people. Just admit it. The name Canada Day is about as boring as it gets. Which I guess in a way probably suits us perfectly! Independence Day and Bastille Day. Those are real names for holidays. Now just imagine if they were called America Day and France Day. Quote
Pliny Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 As kids I remember the Fourth of July was called Firecracker Day. Our Firecracker Day was July 1 even though we didn't have a revolution. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.

Which I guess in a way probably suits us perfectly! Independence Day and Bastille Day. Those are real names for holidays. Now just imagine if they were called America Day and France Day. "U.S. of A. Day" wouldn't be so bad. The point is, no matter what it was called, I'd be celebrating just the same and be just as proud to be an American. Seems to me you might want to consider adapting that line of thought yourself, and celebrate what the day represents instead of concerning yourself over what you call the day that's set aside to celebrate your great nation. Independence Day and Bastille Day. Those are real names for holidays. Now just imagine if they were called America Day and France Day. It's not really supposed to be thought of as a holiday though. The day is in celebration of Canada. It's called Canada day....I really don't see what's wrong with that...though, I suppose we could change the name to British North America Day.....I'm sure that would go over well. Your problem is that youreally don't much care for Canada. That's not Canada's problem though. Quote

The term Canada Day is relatively new. It's not like it's been a long standing traditional name. Personally, I'd like a Confederation Day or Federation Day much better. Canada Day is a tad sophomoric. Quote
Smallc Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 (edited) We're not the only confederation of federation though. We are the only Canada. Confederation day isn't terrible though. I still think Canada Day is fine. Edited July 10, 2010 by Smallc Quote
Shady Posted July 10, 2010 Report Posted July 10, 2010 We're not the only confederation of federation though. True. But America isn't the only country to have to fight for independence either. And Independence Day still works fine. We are the only Canada. Confederation day isn't terrible though. I still think Canada Day is fine. True, Canada Day is fine. It's just my opinion that it could be better, and reflect a little more meaning. Quote
