eyeball Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Nope, we're eating Cantonese, and of course chocolate bunnies. Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal
Shady Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 I had fish and coleslaw. Happy Good Friday. Quote
capricorn Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 When I was a kid we had macaroni on Fridays. We also had it Monday...Tuesday...Wednesday... So I stopped observing fish Friday years ago. We had chicken and fries smothered in St-Hubert BBQ sauce. Yummy! Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Mr.Canada Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 Capricorn stopped eating fish on Fridays because she ate macaroni often as a child. Ok, that's a new one...hehe. Yeah, we had fish and chips for a change. The chip shop was rammed had to wait around a half hour...ah well, it's always worth the wait. DrGreenthumb Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Is everyone eating fish for supper today? I think its more important to remember the new commandment, to love thy neighbor as yourself than what you eat. Remember that Christ was a true socialist, and said the only way for the rich to get into heaven was to give their riches to the poor. He said that we must clothe the poor and feed the hungry. We must remember how He was betrayed by the very people who claimed to love Him, and how He so loved us that He suffered and died on the cross to give us the chance at eternal life in heaven. Too many people claim to love and represent Jesus who seem to have absoluetly no idea about His teachings. The only part most of the fundamentalists seem to remember is that they can engage in all kinds of atrocious behaviour as long as they ask His forgiveness. Quote

No, they mess up that part too: you're supposed to be truly sorry. Also, you are to forgive others. Mr.Canada Posted April 3, 2010 Author Report Posted April 3, 2010 Go read the book of Revelation and let me know how much of a socialist Jesus is. Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog
Michael Hardner Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Go read the book of Revelation and let me know how much of a socialist Jesus is. Revelations ? I don't understand. That's a highly symbolic and strange depiction of future events, so... what does it have to do with socialism ? Jesus promoted many values that were socialistic in nature, including eschewing materialism, acceptance of the poor, and destitute and those shunned by society, care for the downtrodden. Shady Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 This is a Happy Good Friday thread. If you wanna crap on Catholics, there are plenty of other threads to take your prejudices. Thanks. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 This is a Happy Good Friday thread. If you wanna crap on Catholics, there are plenty of other threads to take your prejudices. Thanks. In my time as a Christian, I have never had an in-person greeting of "Happy Good Friday". It's an odd thing to say. I would never crap on Catholics, in fact I celebrate Easter as the birth of the Christian ethic (and, yes, there are in that positive implications for progressive social thinking) and the western way of life. HAPPY EASTER. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner

HAPPY EASTER. Nor have I. I started this thread as a tongue in cheek sort of thing. I wanted to see if anyone still ate fish on Good Friday. Plus I know that whenever someone mentions Jesus or anything to do with Christianity it sends the socialists into spasms. I wanted to see if that happened as well. Happy Easter indeed. CANADIEN Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Revelations ? I don't understand. That's a highly symbolic and strange depiction of future events, so... what does it have to do with socialism ? Jesus promoted many values that were socialistic in nature, including eschewing materialism, acceptance of the poor, and destitute and those shunned by society, care for the downtrodden. Jesus' teachings escape categories such as socliaism or capitalism. It is fundamentally about two things - love God, and love other human beings like yourself. The rest is the practical application of it. As for materialism... socialism is all about materialism. Quote
M.Dancer Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 To say Jesus was a socialist is a tad anachronistic. Just as mich as if by taking his other parables regarding the landowners and his workers, you would say Jesus was a capitalist. The one thing we know for sure is, Jesus neither held shares in Barrick Gold or was a memeber of the NDP. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

Bonam Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 (edited) Jesus' teachings escape categories such as socliaism or capitalism. No, they really don't. All the notions of altruism, self-sacrifice, collectivism, and mysticism, which are at the roots of socialist ideology and ethics, rely heavily on Christianity (or alternately on other religions with similar teachings).
