Former U.S. President George W. Bush will visit Canada in March....

Bush is to speak to an anticipated audience of 1,500 at a private event in the city on March 17, according to organizers Andy McCreath and Christian Darbyshire.

"It's our understanding it's one of the first -- if not the first -- times he'll speak since leaving office," said Geoff Pradella, vice-president of public and government affairs at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, which is partnering in the event.

Hope they can extinguish any more citizens choosing to play Human Torch.

He will be speaking in Calgary, considered a "safe" location for him to start out because of their highly conservative and pro-American views. I'm sure he'll receive a warm welcome. Many will wave and salute to him- this time with all five fingers. :D

I'm quite sure someone will still try to lob a shoe at him. Shoeing Bush will be in vogue, probably forever. Even his statues assuming there ever is one will be targetted.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

I wonder how much he's getting paid:

A co-owner of a Canadian company that organizes high-profile speaking events confirmed Thursday that Bush is scheduled to speak March 17 in Calgary, Alberta. The invitation says Bush will discuss "his eight momentous years in the Oval Office" and "the challenges facing the world in the 21st century."

The event is Bush's first confirmed speaking engagement. Booking agency partner Andy McCreath declined to discuss Bush's speaking fee. A spokesman with the Office of George W. Bush in Dallas also declined to comment.

Clinton's speaking tour in 2005 included 43 speeches in 14 countries. He began in February and averaged about four speeches a month, usually charging about $150,000 per event. On occasion, the price was much steeper.

On October 18, 2005, for example, he addressed about 8,500 business executives at a "Power Within" motivational speaking conference in Toronto, Ontario, for a price of $350,000.

The next day he addressed a similar group at a "Power Within" conference in Calgary, Alberta, for $300,000.

I bet that Bush is not saying because he is earning less than Clinton.

Hey maybe there can be a disaster and instead of Bill and Bush seniour collecting the cash called "relief" - Three of them...little George and the others could maybe get involved in some more Tsnami kind of stuff and run a few billion though their buddies banks - and take a bit for themselves.. I really don't understand how anyone in the world in their right mind would heed or respect Billy the boner Clinton. A man granted the highest office in the land and does not have the class or common sense to control his base animalistic selfish wants. What's with America? As for Bush - what does he need to tour about for? What does he have to offer that is useful to humanity? He would be like a freak in a side show - and if he had any brains or class - He would have instisted on the release of the shoe tosser! But he won't because that would be to admit - that he is wrong - what lecture can a man give that's of use when he is wrong...about everything? I don't get this facination.

Well, if this forum is any indicator, it's just part of the train wreck that Canada can't help but watch. Must get very cold and boring in some parts up there, eh? Plus there is always the Texas-Alberta oil connection.

Alberta is our Texas. It's been a long and cold tedious winter - and a bit boring. And don't say "eh" - I own the brand...you want the rights to "eh" - you have to send a check (cheuqe) ----Canadian spelling influenced by the French.......and ---- You are not a train wreck - the government is - and is so institutionalized to the point they are not connected to what is real...it's over privledge and arrogance. The average American that is brave - is very very smart and compassionate ----- the people will lead no matter what - there are more of them than bureaucrats --- thank God.

It is boring to see the whole place go to hell in a bread basket..It would be much more satisfying to see something great and new be accomplished...you know - like a really well produced tune that soars and lifts the spirit and the economy within the same process. Don't be so hard on yourself. The world will get better....look at it this way ---- If you maintain a good and positive spirit against all odds - it spreads like a good virus...one person can change the world..each tiny individual is an ant doing his designated task...As for depression or recession - IF every person just believed that all was well - IT WOULD BE - but it's really tedious to deal with the faithless and hopeless...you would think they would have figured it out by now.. Honour is important...and I have noticed that one can win over the most lowest and base - If you actually love them ----no one can resist the love baby!:lol::lol: ------ *It's POWER!-----still you have to have the capablity to destroy...and keep that in check. - or is that cheque/  ....off I go ----It is totally beautiful in Toronto and people are perking up - should be the best year ever!

You mean like Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy" ?

One person cannot change the world...but they can sure dick it up!

Honour is important...and I have noticed that one can win over the most lowest and base - If you actually love them ----no one can resist the love baby! ------ *It's POWER!-----still you have to have the capablity to destroy...and keep that in check. - or is that cheque/  ....off I go ----It is totally beautiful in Toronto and people are perking up - should be the best year ever!

That's because of the length of daylight and declination of the sun. Even my cat is perking up as the snow piles sublimate.

Harper must have given him "special" ok to come because Bush does a record of drunk driving and time in jail, and usually you aren't admitted into Canada or the US.

Wouldn't matter....President Bush was a Head of State; he never spent time in jail. IIRC, Bush plead guilty to DWI and paid a fine with license suspension. Similarly, a Canadian MP was fined for DWI in Hawaii (Gordon Campbell).

Nope...but if you're going to be a cynical smartass like me, it pays to have a good memory for ammunition.

It was said by my brothers ...if anyone can find a tiny hole in your armour he can and he will insert a pin and twist it..I remember just about everything that is said and all I see. I liked you better when you were more formal ---don't show me your soft underbelly....I might just open it up for a better look....you trust quickly---or perhaps you are a good judge - I belive the later...so pass the ammunition and I will say the prayer....sounds like you are in good spirits my friend. "cynical" or "smartass" - I think not...pragmatist in good faith is a better descript - You will do fine this year....It's endearing and encouraging to know that once you get the hang of this life you get a second chance --- well I am gladly taking mine...life is just begining - and what you are has taken this long to be and it was worth the price---------------------------------------------and you did not lose to much of the honor.. just enough to fool them...:lol::lol:

True enough....many people are so distracted by the clash of the sabre that they forget about the dagger.

It's a working visit. A State Visit would involve a trip to Rideau Hall and a State Dinner. A State Visit would also be organized by the Office of the Governor General. This visit was organized by the Prime Minister's Office.

You say tomato...I say tomata. From the US State Dept. perspective...it is a state visit. Looks like the GG will greet President Obama.

Yes, but if it were a state visit, her office would be organizing the event.

If it were a state visiit, it would be entirely ceremonial....open an art gallery, catch the strippers in Hull....
