Leafless
Democratic U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama opposes excluding Russia from the Group of Eight industrial nations, as suggested by Republican rival John McCain, saying Moscow's cooperation was needed in the fight against nuclear proliferation. McCain has said he would push for Russia's removal from the G8 as punishment for rolling back political freedoms. http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSN12381560 Looks like Obama is beginning to show his true socialist stripes. Putin rolling back civil rights, warns Amnesty· Russians 'losing freedoms under new laws'· Human rights activists targeted, say critics President Vladimir Putin has presided over a major "roll-back" of civil rights in Russia, which has seen freedom of expression, assembly and association seriously curtailed, Amnesty International warned yesterday. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/feb/2...sia.humanrights Freedom of expression curtailed. This sounds vaguely familiar. Anyway, we all know who is a major ally of Iran. Mc.Cain is right and Obama is wrong.
maldon_road
The G8 has become pretty irrelevant. It doesn't include China or India. Maybe now is the time to disband it. Nothing useful at all came out of their latest meeting.
BC_chick
Don't worry, he'll probably change his mind once he sees that he's chosen the unpopular choice... like he did with NAFTA, pulling out of Iraq pronto, giving Jerusalem to Israel, and just about everything else he had convictions on. I agree....Canada was allowed to join back in the 70's only because of Helmut Schmidt and Gerald Ford, not because of a great economy (which would later teeter on insolvency). peter_puck
http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSN12381560 Looks like Obama is beginning to show his true socialist stripes. What does Obama's position on Russia and the G8 have to do with socialism ? Last I heard Russia is no longer communist. China, on the other hand, is still communist, and it was Bush that let them into the WTO (which again proves he is the dumbest thing ever let into public office)

Good point...Canada is socialist and was still admitted. China, on the other hand, is still communist, and it was Bush that let them into the WTO (which again proves he is the dumbest thing ever let into public office) Actually, it started during the Clinton administration....we get to vote for the president....you don't. Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar....dumb too? Former US President Bill Clinton Thursday urged China's quick entry into the World Trade Organization when delivering a speech to some 700 business leaders at the concluding meeting of the 2001 Fortune Global Forum in Hong Kong. bush_cheney2004
how is what Russia's doing any different than what the USA is doing with domestic spying, suspension of habeas corpus, & torturing. I think you have answered your own question (see below), but some people like drama. They may be different acts ie. outlawing freedom of assembly, but the US more than makes up for it by compiling databases of all the personal info they can acquire on people who excersise their freedom of speech or assembly. Really? Is that anything like the databases compiled by Proctor and Gamble for rebate customers? Even wearing a shirt that says "freedom of expression", "don't drink and drive", and "Veritas(truth)" in Amerika can get you suspended for a day, and a year if the behaviour is repeated. So can spitting on the floor...so what? Amerika is now know as a "endemic surveillance society". No, it's still known as America, the society you surveil the most. Welcome to the club.
