No I was using the word vapour, as in steam, like the phrase vapourware, software that a company says they are developing but never materializes....

Sort of like your claims of knowing what you are talking about....

Mind you, you are also vapid, but that doesn't take away from your vapoursmarts

Nice try, no cigar.

Whatever the case, I'd prefer to know what I'm talking about and because on not knowing by some middling wannabe, than not knowing what I'm taliking about and covering the fact with sarcastic remarks and personal attacks. I'll tell you, though, you'll never have the chance to do the academic research I have, and I earned the right to because people with academic qualifications recognized my ability. What some middling know-nothing thinks is of no concern to me. Have fun reading your morning paper...

Mischievous 'Filipino Monkey' could have triggered latest US-Iran row

A heckling radio ham known as the Filipino Monkey, who has spent years pestering ships in the Persian Gulf, is being blamed today for sparking a major diplomatic row after American warships almost attacked Iranian patrol boats.
Senior navy officials have admitted that the source of the threats, picked up in international waters, was a mystery. And now the US navy's journal, Navy Times, has claimed that the threats, which were broadcast last week by the Pentagon, are thought to have come from an infamous radio prankster.

Interesting to note from the article:

The Pentagon said it recorded the film and the sound separately and then edited them together to give a "better idea of what is happening".

The US backpedalling is even more obvious and note the FISHY filming method of the Pentagon, seperate film and sound eh?

Like they attached there own "soundtrack"to the incident?

OOps! NAILED!

Those who recognized the scam this was, pat yourself on the back.

To those who continue to buy this nonsense constantly, why? why? why?

But hey it ratcheted up the fear didn't it? For the fearful anyway.

Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. It is okay to criticize a policy, decision, action or comment. Such criticism is part of healthy debate. It is not okay to criticize a person's character or directly insult them, regardless of their position or actions. Derogatory terms such as "loser", "idiot", etc are not permitted unless the context clearly implies that it is not serious. Rule of thumb: Play the ball, not the person (i.e. tackle the argument, not the person making it).

You really think they have an integrated radio and video system on board? The Video looked like it was a from a Sony Handycam. It would not have been hooked up to the UHF?VHF radio.....but feel free to spin it any way you want.

facesaving, ok?

You mean "facesaving" right, now why would they have to resort to that?

Flip Monkeys, face-saving or whatever...the Iranian speedboats were within 200m of US warships. Not the other way around. That's what ultimately set off this row. After the USS Cole, we all know what a mere speedboat can do if packed with high-explosives. Then there's the UK sailor affair which has already made most of us quite suspicious as to Iran's intent.

Either way...nobody was hurt. However, one must ask why Iran feels it has to harass international shipping. Why the aggressive attitude? Does Iran want to close the straights? More muscle flexing for the local audience? What gives?

It's the American thing to do. No matter how clearly that it's made to Americans that their government and media lies to them, many Americans are instilled with the old notion of "my country right or wrong". This leads to a gulability and blind faith/patriotism that overrides all sense of reality.

Which is why every four years we see the same grand theatre surrounding the presidential elections, which invariably degenerates into the same old four-year tragi-comedy.

Are you saying that people should reflexively oppose their own country? In this case, whatever one may think of any particular administration, there's nothing like the brutality and senselessness of "Islamic republics" such as Iran prevalent in the US.

Oh yes. The USS Cole was "grand theatre surrounding the presidential elections"? Is this some effort at a bad joke? Edited by jbg

How about 2/3 of Americas navy in the persian gulf? if you knew that america would invade a country with no factual evidence (wmd's...iraq) and the very same country is threatening you with words and its military presence would you not want to keep tabs on them? even after the NIE deemed Iran as a non threat Bush still beat on his war drum, he really should stop listening to AIPAC.....if iran was ever stupid enough to attack the US Navy why would they not use their cruise missles, "stealth-missles", ground effect flying "boats", or airforce? or how about even send armed patrol boats. hmmmmm patrol boats sound awfully familiar, another gulf of tonkin incident? which was admitted to be a lie...

iran has allies, see the shanghai corporation. theyre in military alliance with russia and china, the 2 greatest threats to bush's NWO.

the us navy is international shipping?

The US 5th Fleet operates in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. It is hardly 2/3rds of the USN...lol. As for it being international shipping, of course. It is tasked with protecting said shipping lanes, in fact. Most of the planet's oil passes through there on its way to Asia and Europe, mainly. Can you do without oil?

If Iraq ever used 'cruise missiles' against the USN that would be it...wouldn't it? Real war...with Iran losing big-time. Buzzing the USN with cigarette boats is far less clear intention-wise. Plus, if they get away with it, as they did, they get to boast that they kicked the US's big toe. Plays well with the locals.

As for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq...Saddam had a vigorous chemical weapons program which included VX nerve agent. Frankly, I think the entire world had a right to worry.

You might recall that VX nerve agent is perhaps the most deadly chemical ever made. As little as 10 micrograms can kill. That's micrograms...

dop:

were the "iranian" speedboats really within 200m of the warship?

or were boats BELIEVED to be Iranian speedboats within 200 m of the warship.

read the articles.

dop:

Not the other way around.

Really? As opposed to those "believed to be" speedboats, How close are all the warships to iranian waters and coastline.??

dop:

Then there's the UK sailor affair which has already made most of us quite suspicious as to Iran's intent.

the UK affAIR was as much BS as this one is turning out to be, have you forgotten, the Brits themselves freely admitted they were intel gathering, on skynews recorded on british ships.

http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1259413,00.html

'We Gathered Intelligence'

The captain in charge of the 15 marines detained in Iran has said they were gathering intelligence on the Iranians.

Captain Chris Air

We withheld the interview until now so it would not jeopardise their safety.

Captain Air and his team were on an 'Interaction Patrol' where their patrol boats came alongside fishing dhows.

The operation was mainly to investigate arms smuggling and terrorism but Captain Air said it was also to gain intelligence on Iranian activity.

He told Sky Correspondent Jonathan Samuels: "Basically we speak to the crew, find out if they have any problems, let them know we're here to protect them, protect their fishing and stop any terrorism and piracy in the area," he said.

"Secondly, it's to gather int (intelligence). If they do have any information, because they're here for days at a time, they can share it with us.

"Whether it's about piracy or any sort of Iranian activity in the area. Obviously we're right by the buffer zone with Iran."

The UK Defence Secretary Des Browne told Sky News it was important to gather intelligence to "keep our people safe".

He said: "Modern military operations all have an element of gathering intelligence.

"We need to understand as much as we can about the environment we operate in and intelligence gathering is an every day part of that."

He added: "The UN mandate would clearly empower the military taskforce to gather information about the environment in which they were working."

Captain Air said that fishing dhows had been robbed by Iranian soldiers on a number of occasions.

"It's good to gather int on the Iranians," he said.

Fifteen sailors and marines were taken captive nearly two weeks ago after the Iranian government claimed they had strayed into their waters.

.

Yeah, but the British government had no idea what these people were doing, right??? right

dop:

However, one must ask why Iran feels it has to harass international shipping.

You only assume that is the case, right now there is nothing to indicate that is correct, at all!

You oweren't, but my point is that the last such attack during an election campaign was the USS Cole. Thus, if anything, the US's enemies mount these attacks at a point when US response would be politically unpalatable.

Iran; the left's newest "Cause" protect it from the Evil US. I guess they ran out of women to whip and murder with stones.

Here's some nice pictures and stories from Iran, yes quite the country.

Link: http://www.adnkronos.com/AKI/English/Polit...=1.0.1756615459

Snippet: Tehran, 10 Jan. (AKI) - Iran's supreme court has confirmed that two youths, found guilty of rape will receive 100 lashes each before being cast off a cliff - an ancient Islamic punishment - local media reported. The reports named the youths as Tayeb and Yazdan.

"This is a chilling sentence," said Iranian human rights activist and lawyer Mohammad Ali Dadkhah.

"Iranian jurisprudence allows alternative punishments to those prescribed by Islamic law, but many judges ignore them, " Dadhkhah said.

Another warm hearted story out of Iran.

Snippet: Tehran, 14 Jan. (AKI) - A Turkish citizen has been hanged in Iran while still on the stretcher that was used to transport him from the prison hospital to his execution in the Khoi jail in western Iran.

Hassan Hekmat Demir, was believed to be a member of the Kurdish group, PJAK, the Iranian branch of the Kurdish militant group PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party).

A photo of his execution was published in the Kurdish magazine Asu.

Hekmat Demir, a Kurd with Turkish citizenship, was arrested two months ago, after he was found almost frozen to death by a platoon of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

He was accused of terrorism and of being a member of an armed group. His trial proceeded in the absence of a lawyer and he was condemned to death by hanging.

The photo showed the blood stains on

Another warm hearted story out of Iran.

Many on this Board have accused me of having a dislike of Muslims and Arabs. I actually have profound respect for them, as the below two articles (one of which is from a socialist source), which I have excerped, amply demonstrates:

The Prince and His Palace:

A 6,400-Square-Foot Getaway That Flies (link)

New York Times -

PARIS, Nov. 12 — He may be only the world’s 13th-richest man, but Prince Walid bin Talal of Saudi Arabia will soon be able to claim the bragging rights to the world’s largest private jet.

Putting an end to months of speculation, Airbus announced Monday that the Saudi billionaire had become the first V.I.P. customer for the A380 superjumbo jet, the winged colossus that the European plane maker prices at just over $300 million.

Prince Walid, who currently makes do with a customized Boeing 747-400, signed the contract for a new flying palace at a ceremony with senior Airbus executives at the Dubai air show.

He expects to take delivery in 2010.

With its 240-foot double-deck fuselage and 262-foot wingspan, the 560-ton A380 dwarfs the rides of the world’s most powerful leaders. In comparison, Air Force One, the presidential jet, is a relatively modest conveyance, a Boeing 747-200 weighing just 333 tons.

THE DESERT DICTATORSHIP(link)

(snip)

A feudal monarchy with oil

Life for most people in Saudi Arabia is grim. Saudi women are virtual prisoners in their homes, are forbidden from driving and are barred from most jobs. Slavery, officially abolished in 1962, continues through the enslavement of the country's 7 million migrant workers (a third of the population). These workers are often not paid, and are frequently beaten and sexually abused, and deported or imprisoned if they complain.

**************

Just south of the glistening air-conditioned tower blocks, marbled palaces and pristine hospitals of central Jeddah are sweltering sprawling slums where prostitution, drug and alcohol addiction, destitution and disease are rife.

One of the richest states in the world, whose economy is fully integrated into international capitalism, is run by an absolutist feudal monarchy. The ruling class consists largely of the offspring of lecherous kings. The working class is almost entirely migrant labour. A vast pool of educated Saudis are as bored as they are ludicrously controlled by the state.
