  1. Selling Petrocan = good for Canada. GST = good for Canada. FTA and NAFTA = good for Canada. Changes to the regulatory environment and cuts in the size of the civil service that made the budget surpluses of the late 90s and today possible = good for Canada. You forget Mulroney's ego needed a postal code, and he even claimed he was the greatest Prime Minister since John A. MacDonald. His GST was totally unnecessary, his Meech Lake accord a total flop, as was his NAFTA sellout. IMV he was the most arrogant and dishonest PM since MacDonald. At least with Trudeau you knew where he stood on issues. Mulroney would just as soon stab you in the back.
  2. I suggest reading the book The Bible Unearthed. It is a fascinating alternative to common held beliefs about the old testatment. There are many surprises.
  3. Are you referring to a media tempest in a teapot from more than a year ago? I can only hope the Liberal *braintrust* for the upcoming campaign is as unable to be creative in their criticism as you are. That attack didn't work last election. What has changed to make it work now? I'm just answering his question. Harper was given the opportunity to respond. He dodged the question.
  4. Shame he can't say it. Shame no politician says it. Paul Martin said it.
  5. "...Peacekeeping has traditionally been a primarily military activity but Canadian involvement in international peace support operations has expanded in response to the complex emergencies that we now face..." link
  6. So what in your opinion have these young people really died for? Defending American freedom? Not. Creating a stable middle east? Not. To line the pockets of warmongers? Definitely.
  7. But at what cost? Do you actually enjoy 4 hours in an emergency waiting room, ridiculous parking at Foothills in Calgary (thanks to 1 Hospital closure and 1 demolished), schools with leaking roofs, not to mention infrastructure nightmares? But hey, Ralphie saved the day. That happens all over Canada, I haven't seen anyone coming in on an ambulance being forced to wait 4 hours in an emergency room. The infrastructure problem is most likely due to people coming in at a faster rate than the province can naturally accomodate them. That's due to a very good economy. People in Alberta are much richer than other people in Canada, Ralphie did save the day. You seem to forget that Calgary has had the infrastructure issue for many years prior to the "boom." And I wasn't talking about arriving in an ambulance into emergency, just a walk-in. Did you forget that Ralphie was part of the cabinet that built rural hospitals like crazy for political gains, and then closed them up later due to Doctor and nurse shortages when Ralphie was "balancing the budget." There are schools in my area that are in desperate need of renovation and restoration. Yeah, Ralphie saved the day for you alright - if you're rich and healthy.
  8. How about this Newbie? But one of the things we see with global cooling is unpredictability. I read that last line and it is stupid. Another dumb last line. So discounting it as stupid is your response? Then I suppose I could discount the entire article as irrelevant.

  10. Seems you folks never read the last line in the article: "...But one of the things we see with global warming is unpredictability"
  11. Yep, what would they do without that great and wonderful volunteer army.
  12. So tell us, oh great seer, which is the "right" translation? And why?
  13. "I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE" is another popular version of that chapter and verse. link Not sure why this is a big deal. The point is well conveyed regardless of translation.
  14. To use the Bible for any argument relating to justice is inappropriate unless one is willing to consider Leviticus and Deuteronomy. To cherry pick out "an eye for an eye" is totally invalid without giving credence to Lev. 20:9-27, and 24:16-21 or Deu. chapters 13 - 22.
  15. Yup, the whole world should have nukes. It would be a much safer place. Why should the States have ANY say in Iranian affairs? The U.S. is coming off like the bully on the block. It's okay if they have nukes, just not anyone they disagree with. And don't forget the Americans are the only ones who have used them. They have no right in dictating who should develop a nuclear bomb.
  16. Tell that to the Republicans. She is one of their chief spokespersons. Why else invite her to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) where all but one of the repub hopefuls were present?
  17. He has to or he wouldn't be able to sleep at night.
  18. True or false it is clearly a negative attack ad meant to assail Dion's character. I find that in contradiction to what Harper ran on. Plus how many other parties have done this outside of an election campaign?
  19. Have you forgotten that Harper campaigned on cleaning up Gov't?
  20. Yep, she's at it again, at a CPAC meeting where she was invited. Apparently, this "born-again Christian" has no limits to her juvenile, schoolyard tactics. link
  21. Don't know why I bother but I didn't vote Liberal in the last Federal election. In my view Harper has blown it with his lack of credibilty, from Emerson to Bains to global warming flip flop to Dion's negative ads. He sucked a lot of voters in and I can only hope they begin to see him as he really is.
