  1. Education and evolving science was the driving force for much of the beliefs we have today concerning homosexuality. Nonsense. It was a value judgement reflective of changing moral guideposts, or more likely the advent of relativism into mainstream thought. It has nothing whatsoever to do with "science". I take it by "education" you don't mean liberal education, but rather indoctrination? Anyway, the point I was making stands...scientific "bodies" are political entities, and certainly aren't some form of High Scientific Arbiter. With those statements you wipe away years of scientific, physiological and biological study on this issue. Sad really.
  2. How about setting an example?
  3. Since it is clear that the RCMP do have a job to do here, it is therefore abundantly clear that Stockwell Day cannot remain as Minister in charge of the RCMP while they are doing it. As I recall Goodale remained as Minister when the RCMP investigated him and his office.
  4. Education and evolving science was the driving force for much of the beliefs we have today concerning homosexuality. Every belief can be challenged, but for me I'll go with the scientists in the field and the vast majority of climatologists in claiming the reality of global warming. And like someone else on this forum stated, even if global warming isn't happening what's wrong with reducing energy?
  5. Regarding this Celine Dion thing, I'll listen all day to her vs. 1 minute of CRAP - oops I mean RAP.
  6. Emerson and Harper acted totally in bad faith. It seems Emerson couldn't wait to swear allegiance to Harper, who incidently promised to clean up government. And, in typical Conservative fashion, he appointed a Senator as well. Nice job Stevie.
  7. I think it was very obvious from his press conference that he will not accept the bill as is. He was playing the blame game to the hilt.
  8. Poor Georgie. Now he's got to veto the bill from the House regarding troop withdrawal. I like how he positioned military and their families behind him while reading his speech at the press conference. It will be interesting to see how the Democratic majority will react.
  9. Not really. Do you think, for example, that Kraft executives eat their own Kraft dinner? It's the same with the polluters. They are lining their pockets and only care about number one. I'm sure they have totally brainwashed themselves to believe their company's emissions pose no threat. A global warming proclamation and subsequent action means less in their pockets.
  10. Right behind Bush and Cheney. Oh wait, that's right, their 911 testimony wasn't under oath.
  11. And your allegience doesn't rest at Harper's feet?
  12. Spin this all you like, but the video clips I've seen of the issue show Senator Inhofe making a fool of himself. When Senator Boxer chided him about losing his gavel was particularly amusing. Inhofe was impotent. Dead on. Boxer had to intervene when it was clear Inhofe was obviously acting like the school yard bully. Cudos to her.
  13. I'd hate to think of what you'd do to little Johnny if you caught him peeing in the back yard
  14. Or grow up, be an adult and control your anger.
  15. My point is that many people do not just "swat across the backside." I quit doing it with my first born as soon as I realized anger was involved. My kids are now grown and doing just fine. They are empathetic, non-spoiled adults. It's easy to point out the extremes. I think some of the spoiled behaviour you refer to is the result of latch key kids, or kids with fractured families. To me it's far more important having your mom and dad together in a loving relationship than it is to use aggression against kids.
  16. It is abuse when a 180 pound man "spanks" a 50 pound kid in anger. How many times has spanking occured without anger? The lesson is abuse is okay.
  17. I was playing an Irish gig in Victoria many years ago and Will Millar happened to be in the audience. He came up and sang a few.
  18. Best do some education. ADD is an organic problem.
  19. The problem is in the difference between discipline and a beating. For some there is a very fine line there. In my case I was only spanked once (with a plastic pipe). I think I turned out okay, but I hated my dad for a long time because of his excessive use of force on me, then 9 years old.
  20. I don't think he had much choice given the gravity of his mistake. I hope he gets back on track for the sake of our troops.
  21. This makes sense to me: In 2000, the PCs boiled when the old Reform party changed its name to the Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance. The original choice was the Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance. But when "p" for "party" was tacked on the end it produced a rather stinky acronym (CCRAP), so before long Reform moved to the left, so to speak link Wikipedia
  22. Let's not forget the Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance party.
