Prominent Russian Opposition Figure Boris Nemtsov Shot Dead
overthere replied to Shady's topic in The Rest of the World
I would prefer a national policy whereby we bring a much more potent weapon to bear on Russia: oil/gas. Their major customers in Europe are very uneasy with the attitude of their supplier, Russia, and know how vulnerable they are to Putin simply closing the valve on a pipeline without warning. Of course, we would actually have to have the political courage to build an pipleline or two to saltwater in this country, so it is unlikely to happen. -
Because you cannot get all the bounces for 28 straight games playing against the very best opposition. You cannot do it playing roulette, you certainly cannot do it when the opposition is not a statistic. You don't have to take my word for how shitty the Leafs are, all it takes is a review of their actual performance for the last 47 years. What else is there but crap? Same with my team the Oilers for 9 years and counting. This year is no different for either team, more of the same. You can childishly ascribe it to bad luck, but in the real world you very often get the result you deserve. And that is what the Leafs are getting, here and now. What they earned- no more and no less. Same with the Oilers. At the heart of longterm failure in pro sports is a common thread: poor management. The Oilers and Leafs have that in abundance. Their actions in the last year or so are bizarre with regard to Shanahan, their undead GM, coaches and assistants. Extreme weirdness.

I support televised national leadership debates on women, homosexuals, gun owners, mens issues, niqabs, aboriginal rights and many others- a full day per topic in both official languages. It would be entertaining to drop in every week or so to see if our 'leaders' could sustain their outrage for a prolonged period, live in prime time. While they are gabbing and preparing to gab, they won't be able to actually harm the country due to lack of time. It would also give the CBC something to broadcast during the NHL playoffs, though sadly nobody will watch the network as usual and they won't get any ad revenue.

and they could not do it now either. Plus they need somebody to pony up an extra half billion or so to build a new stadium. Have they finished paying for the Olympic Stadium yet., before they tear it down? That is pretty funny!
-
Of course. But not for 4 series. It is the toughest playoff test in sports.
-
No, you simply cannot get to Game 7 of the final on luck. A short tournament, yes, but not the SC final. Same with a grinding 82 game regular season. The best teams get to the playoffs, and the best team in the playoffs wins. The OIlers played better and better as the season got on in 05/06, and deserved to beat the #1,#2, and #3 seeds in the West because they outplayed those teams. I was there. It was that simple. It always is that simple in a very long tournament after a very long season.. The Leafs are neither lucky nor unlucky. Quitting isn't unlucky, it's just a normal part of a shitty team getting what they deserve. This happens to every team. So does the opposite. I don't get your point.

good point. No deal at all in Edmonton then. or would you prefer yet another rental coach? is this the time to point out that Nelsons record is now pretty much as shitty as Eakins this year. Nice to see them break their 7 game losing streak. The race to the toilet is getting intense. Buffalo won last night and are 3 poiints back. Arizona and Edmonton are tied. luck. right. Luck wins or loses a game or two. Luck does not get Calgary fighting for a playoff spot at the end of the season. Calgary works relentlessly and plays as a team under a strict system imposed by some hockey fairy. Oh no wait, they have an experienced NHL coach. . I know these concepts are unknown to Oilers management and fans, but that's the reality. We are on our third baby coach in a row. Before that we had an experienced guy, before that we had as senile guy. I'm ready for a change/upgrade, you not so much. What would you think about giving Bucky a shot at the big job?

like I said. I believe you are the chap who insisted that I was a leftard , politically correct idiot and liar for suggesting that although I support Harper in many things including my vote, I was a liar when I said he was wrong in this case. So, I'll ask you again- what is it about THIS woman wearing a niqab in THIS circumstance that has you so frightened. Islam is not on trial here. Let's have that intelligent discussion. Here, I'll start: Your repeated presumption that she is some sort of bomb wielding threat to our homes is preposterous and bigoted.

Huh? The plaintiff will be suing Raiser and Uber primarily, as being the owners of a company that caused loss in an accident. Where they get the money is not relevant to the plaintiff. And as we all know, Uber will claim that legally Raiser has nothing to do with them and they'll be dropped from the suit. And if the insurance company is named as a plaintiff, they will surely claim the policy does not cover. Raiser can then sue the insurance company, but of course won't because the whole liabil;ity policy issue is a sham, as noted in their unwillingness to demonstrate coverage by simply providing a copy to a judge in private. Raiser has no assets, plaintiff wins and collects nothing. Not uncommon. and equally certain that it is worthless in the context of the insurance carried by other public carriers. Evidence: the unwillingness of Uber or rather Raiser to simply disclose the contents, dispel all doubts and get on with their business. Because the policy is not held by the parent company Uber, but by a subsidiary Raiser. The only reasons for this is the policy is not what Uber claims, and by creating a subsidiary with no assets they protect Uber from lawsuits regrading passenger and public liability. Why would they bother unless they had a compelling reason, and what other reason could there be for all this dicking around with concealment of their policy?? Have they patented some revolutionary policy that is so groundbreaking it has to be kept secret from a court? Answer: let's not get stupid here.

Montreal has to explain why they had 20 years, yes that is 20 years, of low attendance and about 7 years of pathetic attendance prior to their departure. They would also have to find somebody willing to build a big stadium with free rent for the new team.
-
yes, that is what i just said. Yet you just agreed that Raiser will prove to have no assets and no policy, therefore plaintiffs will get zippo. If the policy is sealed now, the first battle will be to get it unseladed, and I am certain it will be an empty envelope. It is at the heart of the matter, and instead of simply disclosing the policy (which could be done under strcit non-disclosure agreements) Uber chooses to stonewall. The reason is that it is completely bogus. So, plaintiffs get nothing because Raiser has no assets, there is no liability policy that matters, and the parent company is isolated from harm. We are talking about UberX here, and Uber does not want to discuss the details of their insurance because their whole business model collapses without it.

I'll explain it to you. At the beginning of the season, when you pay for the whole season of tickets, the fans hearts are filled with hope. By this point in the season, the season ticket holder knows there is no hope. However, there is always an idiot with a Leafs jersey on willing to pay far too much to watch not one but two garbage teams. Curiosity resolved? Hope that helps. You're right, they are delighted to unload the tickets for any price, but the Toronto and Montreal games are really the only ones that command a premium. Economic refugees fleeing the horror of Ontario...... But still, the traitors who won't cheer for "Canadas Team" outnumber the Leafs fans. why would MLB even consider coming back to Montreal? The attendance was below National League averages for the last 20 years of the teams existence, and far below average for the last 7 or so.

Raise your hand if you are a true Canadian, and want these 'people' who wear the niqab and their entire families to be placed in special camps until they can be deported to wherever they are from. If they are from Canada, born here, there may have to be special disposal methods. All in favour?

Alberta NDP Concerned about Attacks on Teachers
overthere replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Teachers are on a ten year salary grid and get increases every year for the first ten years of their careers, which takes a first year teacher with the minimum four year teaching degree from starting money of $58.5k to $92.3 k in ten years. This is exclusive of actual raises during that time. -
No, 'Canadas team' has to refer to a team that Canada would cheer for in default of their own. That does not aply to the Leafs. Only Leafs fans cheer for the Leafs. And lately, not so many of those either. It's just part of the Leafs Nation ego-wank that they think they matter. There will be people at the Oilers Leafs game cheering for the Leafs. But the last laugh belongs to the Oilers season ticket holders who will sell their seats for $300 or $400 to some expat economic refugee Ontarian(whose number is legion in Alberta) who thinks it is worth that to watch two very shitty teams play. You have to drink a lot of beer to enjoy that. The Oilers are not tanking, they really are that bad, and they now have a long history of being that bad. If they were trying to tank , they;d have traded away what passes for good players on the team. The only trade they made at the trade deadline was for a pending UFA they were going to lose anyway. Toronto, on the other hand, has been crapping their pants hard in an effort to get a draft pick. Everybody was for sale at the deadline, and they found a few takers..

I did not suggest that older teachers are lazy. But they definitely are well paid in Alberta. The govt could whack costs big time without losing a single job. -

ConcerNEd? This may the first time in political history that the NDP is just concerned, because their default position is OUTRAGE!!!! About everything , all the time. Alberta teachers are the best paid in Canada and have been for quite a while. This alone would save the govt a bucket of money. The very expensive senior teachers would be gone and replaced by younger teachers who really need a job. Win for the new teachers getting a contract, win for taxpayers. What's the problem? -
Rumours? Bah!!! The truth: he is getting an extra 4" added to his height, to bring him to 5'6". It involves breaking legs. His own legs, in a novel twist.

I have learned here that he is Satans mentor. There will be thousands of jobs created building and staffing the gulags. In Tory ridings of course. Stalin killed at least 20 million people. I don't think Steve is going to get anywhere near that, what do you think is his targeted body count? Perhaps you need to gain just a teeny tiny bit of perspective when comparing Harper to Stalin. . Optional of course, the offset is the sharp dropoff in sheer entertainment value here.

Perhaps you slept through the parts where Kyle was part of a two man sniper team, so no he was not alone. Midway through the flick, he disobeyed orders , stopped sniping and joined his buddies going door to door, as part of a team. Try again. Harder.

Wedding: private and often religious ceremony. Citizenship oath: public and generally secular ceremony. It doesn't matter though, there is no reason to deny a previously identified person wearing a veil at the public ceremony.

That is a common corporate dodge in situations where litigation is inevitable: create a subsidiary to isolate the assets of a parent company. I would bet anything that Raiser has no assets of its own and when the first liability lawsuit succeeds, the policy will prove to be worthless, Raisier will have no assets, and some crippled or dead passengers will have no recourse. I'm sure the policy meets Raisiers needs, but has nothing to offer frivers or their passengers. And that is why they want it sealed. A critical component of this is public safety, which is covered by triditonal public carriers. And the reason for Ubers secrecy is indeed competitive, but not because they fear disclosure of some magic common policy. It's ebcause they know that a main reason that they are attractive is the very very low overhead for their drivers. Forcing drivers to have the same insurance costs as other taxis makes it far less atrractive for their own drivers..

There is nothing there to indicate that Nelson is worthy of a long term deal. Nothing. Eakins has 7 more points, a natural bounce with a new coach from an embarassed team. Note too that Eakins had four more games agaisnt the West than Nelson in his first 31. That's an automatic 8 point swing. So, hiring an experienced coach vs, a virgin is 'taking a chance'? Good one. Note that Calgary has a more or less garbage roster too, and one difference is Hartley.
