Note that the Naturopath in this particular case did not examine or see the child that died.

Is economic growth slowing down permanently?
overthere replied to -1=e^ipi's topic in Business and Economy
Growth is slowing in the West, but all the future economic action will be centered in India and China. They still have a couple billion people charging hard into a new and massive middle class. They all need to be kitted out in TVs, Hyundais, blenders and Oakley sunglasses. So no, growth overall won't be stunted, it just won't be here. It does not depend on energy or minerals or pollution, all of which are and will remain abundant. The growth depends on access to food and water. -
Hopeless, because he is not a white man from Montreal.

Education -What/who made you change your thinking?
overthere replied to August1991's topic in Political Philosophy
When I was a young man, I was faced with a choice. Actually I had many choices, but thought of only two at the time. I could get a job, buy a Camaro on credit and start making payments on a routine Canadian life. Or I could get a series job in the bush/in mining and oilpatch camps, save money fast, and travel. I picked door number two. For nearly a decade I drifted through Africa, Europe, Central America and Asia, mostly travelling alone by preference. I don't know if it made me civilized, but it gave me perspectives I would not have come remotely close to if I'd taken the first choice. The people I met along the way changed my thinking in quite a profound way. -
No No NO. It isn't a cut. It's reprofiling. Remember that word,: reprofiling. It is brand new. I keep thinking we are in an Orwellian time machine where yes means no, and this is Chretien speaking instead of Trudeau Jr.

That's pretty rich. Many posts here judged Duffy last year and here he is: acquitted. Many posts here judged Harper, Wright and others yet here they are: not charged. I get it- Harper engineered the whole thing to embarrass himself. That must be it.

Refused to pay above and beyond the usual aid packages.. That is how it works now. In previous decades, the larceny was much more muted. Let us consider how that conversation goes, with some of the poorest countries in the world, run by despots in their third or fourth decade of cornholing their own people and amassing huge personal futures. They have little income, little exports and opportunities for some serious cash are not frequent. Two scenarios: 1) President for Life Dos Santos(Angola, one of 8 African sub-Sahel countries with leaders 'serving' more than 25 years), we are from Canada and want your vote because we are diverse, worthy and it is our turn to matter to ourselves. Can we count on your support at the UN? Yes? Oh that is so wonderful. 2. President for Life Dos Santos "hello? hello? Is this Bank Suisse? Have you received a large wire transfer today? Yes? Thank you. Bye bye. Guess which one applies in 2016? Many impoverished countries sell refuge for dirty money, passports and citizenships for people who have the cash, registration for ships never seen in their ports if they have ports, and votes in the UN. To think otherwise is just incredibly naive.

Still Going to Buy the F-35, Really?
overthere replied to Hoser360's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In the meantime, we can fulfill all treaty obligations by 'reprofiling' clapped out Twin Otters and Sea Kings with pump action 12 gauge shotguns. The Justin Trudeau years are already starting to look a lot like the Chretien years. -
Why do you ignore the fact that three children are being raised by a convicted rapist and murderer? That did not cease when she reproduced, it began. Why do you hate children? I see you are unfamiliar with the actual events of her case. Not surprising. In any event, I am not calling for her retrial on the torture and multiple rapes and murders of children. But since those facts came out after she engineered a deal on false premises, got away with it, and was released about a lift=etime before her accuratey sentenced accomplice.... it is not unreasonable to task the Quebec child welfare authorities about the presence of a psychopath in direct contact with children. Nor is is extreme to want them to act responsibly. It makes no difference that they are her own children.

Correct. The total for support from Sahel countries was about a billion per year above and beyond the usual aid from First World countries. We were outbid. Trudeau will make sure that does not happen again. The UN is a place of commerce. Support is bought and sold. Poor countries sell their votes to rich ones. You know, just like they sell legal residency, very private banking and passports/citizenship. Waldo, did you have quaint notions of some other process?. So you equate volume of words in the Commons with effectiveness at representing your constituency. Interesting metric. Do you have a cite for that?

Where/What should the Prime Minister's residence be?
overthere replied to Vega's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What sort of budget do you think is appropriate to build a sultans palace massive PM residence on the banks of the Rideau? We acknowledge that costs are not at issue in this time of diversity and investment in infrastructure, any amount of the money can and will be be borrowed after all. And the project would be run by the National Capital Commission, an organization not renowned for thrift. The minimum is several hundred million dollars for a modest rehab of a building that has scant history, and that is the starting point for more expensive options. What is your limit from that modest starting point? Is there a limit? Is a few billion troublesome? Is it enough for an 'infrastructure' project? -
She did not have children when she was released from prison, so that is not relevant. I'm not asking a question, I am pointing out that her children are at risk and that Quebec has a specific duty to those children. You are arguing that she has paid her 'debt to society', which of course she has not since the deal she struck with the Crown was based on a very big lie. It pisses me off that she was permitted to get away with this lie. But so be it. What does that have to do with 3 children living with a homicidal pedoiphile rapist in their home? Bernardo was then. This is now, right now.

Where/What should the Prime Minister's residence be?

I disagree with both your adjective and your noun. And thank you for accepting my premise by using the word 'also'. -
Australia has oceans of natural gas, which they sell as LNG to Japan and China. While Canada was and is flapping our collective gums and getting nothing accomplished, Australia built the infrastructure, secured LNG contracts at high prices, and ate out lunch and ate our economic future. You know, business as usual in both Australia and Canada. You are right though about Australias military. They have a coherent defence policy which involves looking after themselves for the defence of their country. The policy transcends party politics, nobody disagrees significantly with that despite Australia having a much more volatile recent political history than Canada. It is a sharp contrast to our 'management' of our 'defence'.

This whole discussion highlights the unspoken reality of Canada: our political spectrum is very, very narrow. There is really little to choose from between Liberals, Conservatives and NDP. The 'left-right' pigeonholing has little connection to the reality that all parties occupy the center.

Where/What should the Prime Minister's residence be?
overthere replied to Vega's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Things have changed. We now have a hereditary King. He needs a palace, a big one. As part of our infrastructure and in keeping with our economic planning 'deficits are not really borrowing', lets get a mortgage somewhere, and pound a few billion into building something appropriate for the King and his Court. How does 'Camelot' translate en Francais? -
My big question is: are Homolkas children at risk? Given what she is, do Child Services in Quebec routinely enter her home and assess her domestic situation to ensure that her own children are safe? If not, why not? The reasons for doing this are the facts : one parent has a demonstrated history of drugging, torturing, raping and murdering children.

Harper is not alone in disliking what the UN has become, which is an entity that is very, very far from the enlightened world body of peace and justice as first envisioned. For example, the seat on the Security Council that Harper did not pursue, and the same seat that Trudeau is so eager to buy. Because that is precisely how First World countries gain that seat: money. Cash. The cost is about $1 billion per year, for about 5 years, and it is paid to poor countries to buy their votes. It is paid over and above the normal aid packages. Yep, 'Canada is back'. What an achievement. Is there any reason for a retired PM not to go back to work? Campbell, Mulroney, Chretien - all of them worked after leaving office. Would you prefer that they go on welfare? Or do you favour the rich dilettantes like Trudeau, Martin and Trudeau? Being PM is reserved for the wealthy and those who inherit? How very progressive. Harper kept his job as a MP.

The official residence needs to be diverse -
Going to be interesting to see what noble explanation Justin comes up with for stacking the Senate with 'non partisan Liberals' in the next few months. He has to, to pass the legislation his re election depends upon.

Consent is closely tied to amount of beer consumed.

Social Justice Warriors. Like you, paying their dues.

Scammed the taxpayers? The amounts in DuffyGate were tiny, and of course he was acquitted on every count. This did not involve stealing $200 million and giving it to friend, like guess who? Theft is not partisan.

Well that solves the dilemma at first base. Saunders has been a pleasant surprise. Pillar has reverted to his form of a few years ago, swinging wildly at most pitches. Here is hoping somebody in the bottom half of the order(Russ Martin!) can find their groove at the plate.

Creepy serial rapist/killers do tend to be a little weird. We don't normally get to see them in the light, thank goodness the Canadian justice system let her out! Any chance the supporters of Khadr, the Manson groupies, or another well meaning group will be able to demonstrate that society failed Karla?
