  1. It does answer the only question left regarding the coming Liberal imposition of Liberal rule via fiat: how to get past the Senate. It was the only remaining question. The Duffster looks to have a far more pivotal role than anybody could have imagined. Harper promised to reform the Senate and failed. Trudeau doesn't have to . He just has to get back tot he usual govt way of stacking it with cronies. And he will . He has to. hey about those Tory bagmen: did any of them remember to deliver the usual $200 million to Montreal ad agencies, or is that just a Liberal thing?
  2. Aren't they operating under the same Senate rules for decades? I expect Trudeau to revise Senate rules at the same time he stacks it with people pretending not to be Liberals. The '7 more years' will be a certainty once he changes the electoral system to ranked ballots. Of course, the only obstacle to that legislation is the Senate....Justin kind of blew it, kicking all those friendly Liberals out of caucus, before his handlers stumbled on the whole ranked ballots gift to themselves. Observe the magic of turning Duffy into a guaranteed win in 2019! And trudeau Jr can do it without any Constitutional amendments, all he has to do is snap his fingers and get the people he kicked out of his own Liberal caucus back into it- plus fill the 24 vacancies. Presto Chango! Everything is working out.
  3. Correct, they are a benefit of residency. Being a citizen gets you zip in the way of services, other than the right to pay extra for a passport outside Canada, and the right to be repatriated to a place where you don't live.
  4. No it is not illegal to do exactly what you stated which is It is entirely legal to avoid taxes, every person here does just that. If you are a legal resident of Canada, you are not just allowed but entitled to enjoy the services provided, which are almost all done via provincial schemes. Of course, your term 'free' is just silly. Nothing is free. It is illegal to evade taxes, but not at all illegal or even unethical to avoid paying more than what your governmment requires. You don't. I don't. So stop saying what is patently false.
  5. Why is it alarming? Would you restrict the ability of any person to obtain employment in Canada? Persons in Canada are free to accept and free to leave an employer for an opportunity of their choosing. Accounting (and legal) firms don't hire govt staff to subvert justice, the do it because they sometimes encounter talent and are willing to pay what it takes to hire that talent. The govt can of course choose to pay their talent at higher rates than their humdrum drone staff, but those good 'ol collective agreements don't permit that slice of sanity to exist. The only way to stop a CRA employee for pursuing a better life would be to oblige all staff to sign employment contracts that limit working for 'competitors'. Of course, that will never happen since all these CRA folk are already in collective bargaining units, and there is zero chance the union management would like the gravy train that supports their jobs being compromised with any other contract but the collective agreement that keeps the dues rolling in.
  6. Why not? Is it illegal?
  7. No, excellent medical care is cheaper in Mexico and India than in Canada, for certain. A non resident(all expats, for example) would pay around $1500 per day in Canada for a hospital stay alone, exclusive of actual medical bills.
  8. Wright did testify. And after an exhaustive trial, how do you reckon an acquittal means he did anything wrong. Oh I get it, Harper has bought the judge. Gotcha. Next up: Duffy will have legal bills of several hundred grand. Somebody other than him will be paying. Guess who? I am worried that with the Duffster looking like he'll walk on all charges, some heads will actually explode here. I think we all need to get some rain gear on pronto.
  9. The idea that Homolka 'paid her debt' is untrue. She made a deal with the Crown and withheld evidence(the video of the crimes) that specifically implicated her in the rapes and murders. That evidence would have and should have voided the deal and sent her to prison for life, like Bernardo. She is equally culpable in these crimes, but got off easy . I have no sympathy for her- that is reserved for the families of the people she grotesquely tortured and murdered. I don't care about her husband. Her children would be far better off as orphans than with this monster.
  10. A fifty year old high flyer at CRA is an oxymoron, in terms of desirability for recruitment. Accounting firms don't want old civil servants, they are lazy and bureaucracy is deeply engrained in their very souls. They do want young, skilled and knowledgeable accountants with a couple years experience, and that is exactly whom they try to woo away from CRA. It is not diffucult to do. Of course, your premise that they;d hire somebody who would sell out their employer is wrong and silly. If the person would sell out CRA to your firm, that person would also sell out your firm to to CRA eventually. They'd also lose their livelihood when caught either way.
  11. Health care that is better than Canada can be purchased, for a reasonable price, in many countries. The only real handicap for expats who leave for tax purposes is that they can only visit family for six months less a day.
  12. No, it isn't anything to do with globalization. We've done it to ourselves. Canada is not well positioned to simply cooperate within itself. For decades provinces have had more trade north -south than east- west, mostly because of stupid interprovincial trade wrangles. Many of them still exist. More are on the boil right now, and they matter. It has been greatly exacerbated by Quebec /federal politics, and the willingness of federal 'leaders' willing to do one-off deals with provinces. There really is no incentive to cooperate with other provinces unless it is to twist the arms of Ottawa to gain advantage at the expense of other provinces. Its why Harper never bothered with fed/provincial meetings, they are nothing than a venue to yell at Ottawa and attempt to squeeze money. Trudeau found that out at his first one. Lots of tension, nothing accomplished.
  13. What she did was utterly horrific, and she lied about her role to gain a much reduced sentence. My sympathy with her rehab is: zero. I worry about her children.
  14. SK also has significant revenue from potash, uranium, forestry and agriculture. One of the 'fundamentals' of their economy is about $2 billion per year every year in equalization, which is unique in the Western provinces. The West does not exist any more. BC is on their own, by choice, and is not friendly to AB or SK. The Balkanization of Canada is pretty much complete, It is all just competing regions/provinces pitted against each other now.
  15. Something to look forward to: Khadrs children learning the family traditions at the knee of Grandma Khadr.
  16. In reality, many substantial transactions are done in cash. Nearly everything in the black economy, which is very substantial, is done in currency. So are many deals done on the Internet. I just sold a car and bought an ATV, both for cash money, on Kijjiji. There wasn't much option for either, PayPal is rife with scams, a personal cheque is laughable, and even bank drafts are often forgeries now. Cash isn't going anywhere. Oh, and the main reason people use banks is not convenience but security. If you put $100 in the bank today, the odds are good it will still be there next week. Same for bank controlled payment systems- safer than the alternatives.
  17. It was a serious answer, and the correct answer. It can't be helped if you don't like it, but I will state it one more time as you seem to have comprehension problems: the Metis organizations will define their membership, just as they always have done. The federal govt won't provide 'reparations' on a per capita basis unless there is an agreement, and only a few Metis group in AB have formal agreements similar to First Nations treaties.
  18. Seen two very good movies recently: Demolition and Midnight Special
  19. My vote would go to Alomar. He was an extraordinary player at every part of the game, for a long time. Is it only me that wonders when the Jays will wake up? Or if they will? There are some major holes in their game right now. 3-7 in their last ten games.
  20. Whatever they wish. It is nothing to worry about on your part. As taxpayer, your concern should be the overall size of the pie. Who cares how the consumer of the pie divides it? Even Trudeau Jr knows that he cannot issue a completely blank cheque.
  21. No, mem Interesting that you would favour the appointment of judges for the specific purpose of providing bias to cases before them. Very appropriate. bership will be determined by the Metis Organizations.
  22. The Metis organizations themselves.
  23. I doubt it will get much larger. Pragmatically, what is the purpose of expanding membership? There is not much in it for organizations to get larger memberships, there is much benefit to getting organized better. . I expect that Trudeau will come under heavy pressure to provide a billion or two for Metis groups to a) formalize their organization both locally and nationally through offices and infrastructure , and pay their leadership and organizations. provide funding to undertake land claims and ongoing operating funding for expanded organization , as has been done and is done for other First Nations groups across Canada.
  24. Your confusion likely comes from a lack of knowledge of how it really works. This is what is pertinent: "According to the Metis National Council website, "Metis" means a person who self-identifies as Metis, is distinct from other Aboriginal Peoples, is of historic Metis Nation ancestry and who is accepted by the Metis Nation." The only part that really natters is the final one. Metis organizations have for many years defined who they pemit into their organization, and this will come sharply into focus now with this SC ruling. The organizations overall have had some govt funding, their influence can only be enhanced. They can expect a lot of interest in people joining/seeking recognition, which is only nirmal since there is or could be a grater pie to be divided. But.... will the organizations seek to diminish the size of each slice? A major internal fight looms. A group that is in a good position are the Metis Settlements of Alberta. They already have land and money granted by the provincial government. It would not be surpising to see Metis groups elsewhere looking for the same sort of arrangement.
  25. Ivison wrote another hilarious piece lately too. I though it was farcical too, but the left were spontaneously ejaculating over this masterpiece of fluff. I do appreciate that PostMedia publishes stuff by Ivison and Den Tandt, two Liberal shills with a platform. Lately Coyne has joined their ranks more b=vocally than usual. There must be Communications posts opening up soon in the existing armada within the PMO. The job competition is just beginning! http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/john-ivison-trudeau-convinced-that-pipeline-strategy-must-be-top-priority. It is a masterpiece of garbage journalism, a nothingness. There is no attribution of anything to the premise that Trudeau supports pipleines other than this: The headline is 'Trudeau convinced'. He is not quoted anywhere, nor is anybody else on the topic. Comedy gold on a national basis.
